      Be of value to who? Oneself, or others?
      Einstein was a genius in physics but he was still unfortunately an altruist that thought the beneficiary of one’s own actions should always be “other people” instead of oneself. He thought it was moral to sacrifice oneself for others.. he may as well have worked with the church, given his religious view of collectivized ethics.

      @nova00boss it’s not selfish to give up on one’s own son.. it would be selfless for me to give up on my son if I love him. I have a selfish duty to fulfill my commitment I made to my son, otherwise I’d view myself as a failure of a father. I think this applies to Einstein too. Thanks for your kind thoughts though.

    They say it's lonely at the top. That is why we need to help everyone and pull them up with us. Equality and equity are a must starting with education and eventually in career paths. The triangle shape that may represent the narrow top to the wide bottom base needs to be leveled out. Everyone wins when more and more people are allowed to speak, help, and contribute.

    Okay, this is a lot to unpack.
    Power/Responsibility/Qualification/Mental readiness/Luck.
    This is what in my view is required to move up.
    1. Mentality: if you are not ready to to learn, absorb or just be presently open minded. Fail.
    2. Power: power is more like assertiveness. Being able to take responsibility and give it. If an idea is presented, using an open mind and run with it if it's good.
    3. Responsibility: being responsible as an employee goes far when you gain a highet position. If you were unresponsible before, you might also be when moving up. When you move up, you become more responsible for others as well as yourself.
    4. Qualified: this is basically experience. We all need to crawl before walking. We all need to speak well with others if we are going to command others. Command can be subtle, harshly, kindly, or without tone. Leaders "do" and have "doers" with them.
    5. Luck: is more or less timing. If you have all the above things. Luck brings you that certain push. Perhaps you dressed up vs not. Perhaps you share similar stories like military or previous residence and the new boss also shares these. Simple timing.
    ‐---‐-‐---------------------------------------------
    The notion that I have to hire a female/LGBT/old/race/and so on because I don't have one is not a good reason for me.
    I hire anyone that is qualified for the job "period". They have 90days to prove to me they are worthy of staying. That is it.

    My comment may enrage you, but I will keep it clear: I have nothing against diverse people at the job if they do that job good and don't hamper others from doing their job. If a black or transgender person does the job better I'll prefer them. If a black or transgender person does the job worse, I'll prefer someone else.
    > 0:07 part of organisation that truly reflect the world we live in
    Nothing will truly reflect the world we live in. The distorted map is not a territory. Every attempt is very far from it actually as people are always biased. The closest ones are independent cross-validated scientific researches, not some organisations with CEOs in charge that optimize for investors' money.
    > 0:14 While we climb we also need to lift
    The problem is that there is a ladder in the first place, there's not enough place for everyone at the top. So you have a choice what to prioritize: optimize for honest professional work or optimize for climbing that ladder. Guess who climbs in the end?
    > 1:38 Question your surroundings
    And that what your world view opponents do, thus excluding you. Instead of finding who's not with you and counting how often minorities get interrupted, your meetings should have clear procedures that allow everyone to speak and be heard and clear rules how to make discussions and what power those discussions have (if any). Those rules allow everyone to focus on their job and not in-company politics games.
    > 3:09 "Sponsorship" is using your position, your privilege, your power to give opportunities to give opportunity to someone else who's traditionally been excluded.
    So, basically, corruption. Instead of clear, transparent and working procedures of deciding who gets promoted independently of their nation, world views, gender, color or disabilities, you propose to promote people that have similar views to you.
    > 3:50 Pass on the chance for glory
    Same as above. Also, what's the point of promoting someone's genius idea if:
    1) The company doesn't have a clear procedure for proposing, discussing and empowering these ideas
    2) The company doesn't reward it enough. At best the management will throw several kilobucks and the owners will make millions from these ideas. Employees would better care about the company if they have shares of it. Or it's not worth it and better keep your ideas to build your own business one day.

And if the majority are women, great; majority men, fine; majority disabled, no worries.... The best person for the job. Simple. Get rid of internal politics and getting to the top because of who you know not what you know.... That's what needs the focus.

      @TheMeanArena 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Dimitris_Half No, this woman is extremely racist by making that the focus. She never said once in any of her talks about helping all people get to the top. Only helping black women and people of color. Who's racist? The person who you commented to did not say what you're accusing. They're saying that's not what the focus should be. They shouldn't be brought to the top simply based on those criteria's. You get to the top based on your experience, expertise, goals, work ethics, knowledge and hard working skills. Not just because you're black, a person of color, a woman, a person with a disability etc.

    How to lift while you climb:
    1. Question your surroundings.
    Examine who is at the table with you, who ISN'T? If you don't name the disparities/discrepancies, you can't change them.
    2. Aim for sponsorship over mentorship.
    Sponsorship is using your privilege, position and power to give opportunities to those who are usually not included. It's asssisting overs and making explicit their work and value.

    The only way to truly help people long range is to teach them to help themselves. This is where Objectivism and philosophy become necessary. This type of ethical view is what builds wealth.
    If we sacrifice the successful individuals within civilization to the unsuccessful, rather than teach everyone to be successful, we will effectively outlaw success until everyone is equally poor and miserable.
    I’m sure this woman believes her own garbage advice, but that doesn’t mean she’s correct. If she’s asserting truth where no truth is to be found, she’s propagandizing all of us. It’s time we think for ourselves as individuals. Read Ayn Rand for inspiration..

    • @bradbecker8982
      @bradbecker8982 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Kitty Kat I can prove that all my assertions and claims are demonstrable in every imaginable context. Einstein nor yourself can say the same. If you ever find the clarity through your biases, it would do you well to read The Virtue of Selfishness. Take care

    • @bradbecker8982
      @bradbecker8982 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Kitty Kat I’m not right wing 😆
      You don’t even know what you’re criticizing.. Ayn Rand is the only person since the founding fathers to advocate for inalienable rights. She added property as inalienable too, along with life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. Without property rights, all other rights are mere privileges. If a person cannot legally have an inalienable right to own that which they earn, they are a slave to any group or tyrants that can convince the masses to vote to violate said rights. Inalienable right’s should never be democratized. It’s strange how you claim to know more about me than myself. I think that’s something you picked up from the culture but doesn’t affect me in any serious way. Grow up.

    • @bradbecker8982
      @bradbecker8982 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Kitty Kat “What is the basic, the essential, the crucial principle that differentiates freedom from slavery? It is the principle of voluntary action versus physical coercion or compulsion” -Ayn Rand
      Do you disagree, if so, why?

    • @bradbecker8982
      @bradbecker8982 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Kitty Kat every individual, regardless of privilege, has a metaphysical need to provide for their own life. Inalienable right’s protect freedom of action in social contexts, so that people are free to live their life how they choose. One man’s need is not a claim on another man’s life. You are the privileged one speaking from a position within a cushy culture that says it’s moral for someone to be a parasite on other individuals. Would you marry someone that demanded you sacrifice for them while they never act to earn their own life and position in your values? Do you give all your money to homeless people? Obviously not.
      If we don’t allow for individuals to be successful, there will be no one to care for the poor.. welfare enforces caring for the poor, which in turn makes people resentful. If you want wealthy people to share their secrets, you first have to stop demanding they be your financial slaves.

      I would think that saying there is a 'need' for individuals who are identifying by such labels creates more segregation and feeds into those bias. It implies that those with such labelling be hire over someone better qualified.

    Sounds nice, but what about the constant contexts where one is politically and socially forced to put other’s before oneself? Unless it’s moral to selfishly focus on themselves, they’ll never be free to help others how they want to, how other’s need in reality. Teach a man to fish is still the proper solution. Stealing from the successful and redistributing their wealth via political force, to the unsuccessful, is also a form of slavery. This woman wants economic slavery…

You’ll never be happy by bringing down successful people.. you’ll inevitably be too filled with envy and hatred of success to enjoy your only life. If you hate success, you’ll never strive to succeed.. and that’s a fact

      @darrend5741 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bradbecker8982 first, I apologize for the behaviors of a few who fail to argue a their point of view, but instead sling insults instead.
      Second, for everyone else, please be kind. Be kind to everyone. Even if you disagree with them. A differing point of view is not an attack. It does not make those who see things differently a racist. Be intelligent and put forth a logical and compelling counter argument to prove your position. Hurling insults only hurts your/our position and those who share it.
      Third, if you want to be successful in your career, there is a process for doing so. I will share what a “sponsor” once taught me, and what I have taught to probably a hundred employees over the years. It works for everyone who performs each and every step:
      1) Before all else, work hard at being kind to everyone. BE. KIND. TO. EVERYONE. Do it because it’s the right thing to do.
      2) Repeatedly set lofty goals. Work hard to understand what it really takes to achieve those goals. Create plans to achieve the milestones along the way to achieving those goals. Work hard at quickly executing the plans. Execute with discipline.
      3) WORK extremely hard at being extremely competent. Do so by obtaining broad knowledge and specialized skills that leverage your natural talents. Use your ever improving abilities to deliver excellence with everything you do. When you fail, own 100% of the failure. Learn from the failures. Never let it happen again.
      4) Work hard at understanding the financials. You work at a business. Businesses make money. If you don’t understand the money, you don’t understand the business. You will make wiser and more impactful decisions as a result of your financial understanding of the business. You will see opportunities to work on early and often. As my old sponsor often said, “show me a Team member who knows the financials, and I will show you a Team member with a bright future”.
      5) Understand how people “work”. You can almost always accomplish more when you are able to work well with others. You will almost always accomplish more when you know how to bring out the very best in people.
      6) WORK HARD TO UNDERSTAND AND SOLVE YOUR BOSS’ PROBLEMS! Solve their boss’s problems as well. For entrepreneurs, your “Boss” is the customer.
      7) Ensure your boss, and their bosses, knows what your goals are. Since you are their go to “problem solver”, they will be eager to help you get there. If they are not, get a different boss.
      8) Work hard at repeating every step, every single day! This is a tough path to follow. But if I can do it, everyone can.
      Lastly, if you want to “lift” others up as you climb the ladder, teach them these points. I was taught these decades ago. This is the path to success I followed. I am no one special. I do not have any advantage or talents m. It works. It works if you put in the work.
      Just my two cents. Take it or leave it. Thanks.

  • @edi9892
    @edi9892 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    No offense, but I hear a little too much _diversity_ in this talk. I have no problem with the term itself and I am a firm believer that good, competent, and hard-working people should be rewarded by helping them climb the ladder no matter of their background. However, just hiring people of a certain background to claim that you promote diversity is likely to achieve the opposite. Employees get fed up, when not the most competent/suitable person gets hired or even promoted. In addition, to keep the company under its potential, this is likely to cause a rift and destroy trust in the boss. It can also be bad for the reputation. The best example of recent times was the g-pandering of many companies. They made their logos for a short time into rainbow-thingies that were often hard to read and as soon as you changed the language or region setting, the rainbow was gone... Moreover, what exactly did they do to help the LGBTQ-community? That logo does nothing, even more so when it's just waving a flag for a short time...
    Lastly, there's also a dark side to what she advocated, which has existed for centuries: cronyism.
    I've seen a Romanian boss hiring as many Romanians and Polish people as she could, causing a divide in the workgroup between the three prevalent languages. To make things worse, her favoritism poured oil into the fire. Others did even worse jobs in helping others to climb the ladder in that they installed incompetent, but loyal supporters into key positions corrupting the entire place and causing a gradual and slow decline.
