Gordon struggled to get up to fitness speed when he arrived mid season, a good summer with the u21s and a full pre season he's now looking like the player they paid big money for.
Everton fans turned on him as a scapegoat before he left. The one thing for me that clubs can compete with is fitness programs, it shows the difference between Evertons and Newcastles.

Newcastle fan here - nice vlog lads - Villa have lot of quality and will keep improving under Emery. The fitness level at NUFC is above all other PL teams I'd say - and it's going to count more and more in these 100-110 min games. Hope Mings recovers quickly and best for rest of the season.

Gordon initially struggled when he signed Jan last season because in his own words the Newcastle players fitness was so much higher than the Everton players so he felt he was playing catch-up for the entire second half of the season, but now he looks up to speed and looks top quality!

I was always wary of this game as an opener & it was a big loss to lose Buendia just days before the start. Now Mings will be out for a while. I thought it might be a close game, but Newcastle tore us a new one!, fair play to them, they’ll destroy a few teams this season. Hopefully we’ve got this out of the way now and we go again, UTV!

You’re a truly great football fan. You’re not afraid to tell the truth and praise the opposition. You hit the nail on the head. McGinn and Watkins were not allowed to run the game. In the US, Villa played the same team, except Buendia and Philogene. NU played with 4 different starters against you in the US. McGinn and Watkins ripped us apart, but we still managed to pull 3 back. When we put out our first choice starting team, your midfield looked like they were AVFC Ladies. Diaby played well, but as soon as we figured him out, he was nullified.
Nobly, you didn’t blame your loss on Mings injury. I genuinely hope Tyrone Mings is OK. We ripped you apart before he went off injured scoring our second, 7 mins before the horrible injury. I’m sure Emery will fix it and Torres and Diaby will be great for you. I still think you’ll be a team to beat and you can certainly (and will) do NU favours this season. I still fancy us to finish above yiu, but you won’t be that far behind.

Gordon was always a great prospect but he said when he joined newcastle he was nowhere near fit enough coming from Everton to play for Newcastle. Eddie Howe is a magician and has turned so many players around since joining. Gordon didnt get many starts last season as he was working with eddie and improving his fitness. At the European under 21s tournament this summer Gordon won player of the tournament.

You must be listening to bitter Everton fans thinking Anthony Gordon is rubbish. Once he was bed into the Team after a couple of month hes been outstanding. He came to us unfit although he played every game for them. Just shows you the fitness levels from bottom of the league to top. I predicted 2-1 and tbh I thought yous would of put up more of a fight but just like last season we put yous to the sword fairly easily in the end. Champions League for Eddies Mags again Villa around 8th or 9th. Good luck to Villa cracking set of fans.

Newcastle learned a lot about Villa in the defeat last year. Now, totally controlled central midfield stops Villa playing….without Watkins Mc Ginn controlling the pace, Villa had no plan B. Surprised you thought Gordon was a poor player. He is still very young & learning….was a revelation in the Summer under 21 england championship team….player of the tournament & top goalscorer as well . Has looked brilliant in pre season & this really could be his big breakthrough year….decent vlog

Bring back Gerrard! I'm only joking!! Nobody saw a result like that coming. It's a mahoosive wake up call. Pre season results and performances gave us a false dawn. We now need to make Everton feel the backlash.
Know you what I wouldn't worry about it, Newcastle are a force especially at home. Its only the start.
Have to admit I was dreading playing Villa for first match of the season, Emery has done a cracking job since he took over but I think we are seeing the early days of Eddie Howe becoming an absolute legend in football management.
Fair play to you though, for a young lad you gave an honest assessment of the game. People will soon start realising Newcastle aren't one season wonders and Man City will need to start looking over their shoulder before long!

I wouldn't be too disheartened, I'm a Wolves fan and expecting much worse against most teams this year hahaha... Love your VLOG though, always enjoy watching it, and despite the rivalry always hope the Midlands clubs do better than the rest of the country (my Granddad was a massive Villa fan, so I retain a soft spot... plus, I'm not a fan of the Blues looool... )
But honestly, I called Newcastle being the team to win the league this year during the pre-season, and I expect that to play out. Tonali is an absolute beast, and they were missing that key player in midfield last year to push them on, and so I think they are now a complete unit, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them upset the "Big 6" in a major way this year.

Nufc fan here. You'll be ok this season, pushing for top 6 I think, and I suppose you can be forgiven for thinking Gordon is rubbish, but honestly watch out for him this season. He admitted he was shocked when he come from Everton, at just how far behind our other players he was. He said his fitness was pathetic compared to our other players. Since the end of the season hes worked on all of that, and for his efforts he already looks 100 times better. He won the player of the taunement for England u21s, and pre season he was our standout player.
Very honest commentary. I didn't expect that scoreline but we always seem to do well at home against Villa since 2005. It will be a very different game at Villa Park. I still expect Villa to have a great season. This can happen to any team in the Prem. Villa fans were great. Keep your chin up.

Its amazing how we all get influenced by the score. That was a tight game for the majority. I think the xg was 3.4 - 1.9. We just took our chances, I hope Mings has a speedy recovery.

It's funny how the pundits are hyping Villa and having them finish above us, but we're even better than last season. I never fancied Tielemans in our team, happy he went for our ”rivals”. :) ;) Also, people not rating Gordon, well Eddie Howe is a genious with players, he improves them and implements them in his team.

Leon Bailey was the worst player on the field. That's saying something given that our entire team was dreadful but he was appalling and was correcty substituted at half time.
No not sure, he tired. Watkins, Mcginn, luiz, cash, dinge, Kamara all worse than him in first half

It's all about taking your chances, we did not. The 5-1 did not reflect the game, the turning point was the Konsa gift.....we knew it was going to be a battle but did not set up for one, no way should Bailey have started, 442 is what we should have lined up with with some extra bite in midfield. It's gone now mate, it's all about the prep for Sunday and that will be tough as Everton will park the bus. I will take a 1-0 now from an own goal....
Given our record at SJP, I wasn’t optimistic about getting anything there, even with a decent performance. But OMG what a disaster, along with the Mings injury which I think demoralised the team. We’re now gonna see how good Emery is, trying to lift that team back up after losing 2 key players (especially the soul of our side Mings) to injury and that awful performance.
