Newcastle fan here and I've always felt Villa fans are a bunch of good eggs. They love their footy and love their club with a similar passion to us. I think Villa were the only team that truly outsmarted and outplayed us last season. I watched the match in a pub with some villa fans yesterday and the banter was brilliant ... but when Mings was carried off I was gutted for you I'm confident you guys will pick things up though. Another great video I loved the optimism from the boys before the game 😂 I was in same boat as most of the fans you had spoken to but I did think we looked very fit pre season and we never really fielded a our strongest team. I fancied us when I heard buendia was injured but I didn’t expect to win like that. On a positive for you lot that scoreline doesn’t tell the whole story. You missed some great chances when the game was closer. I feel with both teams injuries are gonna define our seasons. I hope mings is ok and I’m sure you will bounce back. Firstly,Newcastle were very good. They are ultra-committed,move the ball quickly and have 2 or 3 special players. Villa,for me,looked a bit 'tired'. Watkins and Cash missed easy chances,yes,but we never recovered when big Ty went off. Did we miss Buendia? Maybe. We need reinforcements, and quickly. And Ramsey and Moreno will be good to bolster the squad. Finally,Martinez. He is simply the best goalie on the planet.

Mings injury was a massive blow for Villa, but I still didn’t see that second half collapse coming. Your midfield was weak in the second half and the Villa defence was static. Emery is a quality manager though and I’m sure he’ll turn this around. That wasn’t the Villa that finished last season so well. Good luck for the rest of the season Villa fans.

thanks Max and co as always for posting this - especially after a long expensive trip up there and shipping five. Losing Mings and seeing him in that much pain really mentally hit the team. I also worry about our lack of pace in defence with him gone. Torres doesnt look fast and we have to trust Emery will rejig the back line as time and time again the toon repeated plays and it worked every time. I have faith. working on getting the new offside/not interfering with play rules sorted is a must too. One goal at least i still dont get. UTFV
As a newcastle fan I'm delighted with that win with our next 2-3 games coming up. However, I was expecting it to be a lot closer, and you had a few great chances that could have told a different story if they were taken, but it was a great game for both sides, I think both teams learned a lot in that game, as you said, "all the goals are the same", a lot of the goals came down your right hand side so something for you to look at in the next few weeks and hopefully can work on protecting. I have a lot of respect for villa, and hope the predictions before the game were right about us finishing close together fighting for top 4. Also hope Mings recovers soon
So much noise was being made by the Villa fans after the preseason friendly, don't get me wrong, Villa are a very very good team, but bit premature to write Newcastle off in the media etc. Eddie Howe had a preseason plan, it showed today, we look good, better than last season, new players settled, Gordon improved, and the rest of them, stepping up another level. Villa was not an easy game on paper, and you were not that bad in large parts of the game, we were just ruthless. Also, if you're looking for a scapegoat, blame Merson, he wrote Newcastle off for this season, and tipped Villa to smash it. He's useless, I knew the moment he said those words, the victory was ours!! Good luck for the rest of the season, you're a proper club with proper fans. HWTL

I think what concerned me was the fact that 2 of our weakest players were starting because we dont have any backup (Bailey and Cash). Winger and RB should have been our main priority at the start of the window.

Hi Max - been following your Podcasts over the summer and they are superb. We have progressed well under Emery but I think we are all too optimistic - we don't have a big squad and have 4 first team players out now, incl Moreno and Jacob Ramsey. Diaby is class and he will excel. I worry for the defence as Mings is vocal and such a leader and well liked and we shouldn't have let Ashley Young go. We are light in right back areas and I believe only a couple of injuries away from being in a relegation scenario -if Emi Martinez and/or Watkins get injured we will struggle very much. I can't understand why we haven't bought a better under study keeper and another no 9/striker - someone like Iheanacho of Leicester would be perfect - regularly scores goals. And we have the bonus of Europe but with the squad getting stretched, it is going to be hard. We must bounce back and no better way against Everton who we always do well against and then Burnley. When the fixtures were drawn and I saw it was Newcastle I knew we’d be in for a tough time. No complaints but our luck with injuries to key players at bad times is a joke. Not wishing an injury on anyone but it’s never a fringe player. Anyway hope Newcastle beat the so called Big Boys UTV.
For all of the optimism our major flaws last year were Bailey, Cash, and Olsen as back up. Why on earth are Bailey and Cash starting on our first game of the season? They’re appalling. If Martinez got sent off too then we’d have Olsen in goal for the next few weeks. Ridiculous oversights.
Can't believe how in the space of a week I've gone from feeling so optimistic to three hammerblows of the two injuries and that result. Felt like we were already a DMF, a wingback and a forward short, but now need to replace Buendia too. At least we have a few CBs and felt a bit sorry for Torres who probably wouldn't have been chucked into it that soon, but executing the high line without any cohesion at the back was suicide. Need some more signings, but keeping the faith. UTV.

Mcginn , konsa , cash , martinez looked dreadful , mcginn offered very little , Konsa isnt consistent enough at this level, he looked nervous, Cash was dreadful , and Martinez is a clown , his decision making is appalling, he has become a caricature since the world cup , he has actually declined since then , rushing out without thinking , he is constantly trying to play mind games and it doesnt work , Emery needs to get some discipline into the team. They looked unfit , they ran out of steam before half time, thats not like us. I know its only the first game and we can move on from it , had it been a close 1-2 loss it would be easier , but that became embarrassing. Hopefully Emery can whip them into shape because we have been down this road before
We were awful today Ollie, McGinn, Konsa just weren’t there today. The ref and Var daint help us neither. Mings injury looked really bad he was banging the floor like crazy and looked like he was crying when he went off. To me he is the one who controls our back line. What’s your thoughts on Philogene possibly going to the bin dippers? And Aaron going to Burnley we are struggling for back up players now tbh. Mings injury was a massive blow for Villa, but I still didn’t see that second half collapse coming. Your midfield was weak in the second half and the Villa defence was static. Emery is a quality manager though and I’m sure he’ll turn this around. That wasn’t the Villa that finished last season so well. Good luck for the rest of the season Villa fans.
Great vlog! Newcastle is everyone's favourite away trip. As a City it is absolutely amazing. Newcastle play the same way every game but must admit they looked so so good going forward. Tonali look so composed and Isak is world class....Fear for Mings 🫣

Losing Mings and seeing him in that much pain really mentally hit the team. I also worry about our lack of pace in defence with him gone. Torres doesnt look fast and we have to trust Emery will rejig the back line as time and time again the toon repeated plays and it worked every time.
I have faith. working on getting the new offside/not interfering with play rules sorted is a must too. One goal at least i still dont get.

As a newcastle fan I'm delighted with that win with our next 2-3 games coming up. However, I was expecting it to be a lot closer, and you had a few great chances that could have told a different story if they were taken, but it was a great game for both sides, I think both teams learned a lot in that game, as you said, "all the goals are the same", a lot of the goals came down your right hand side so something for you to look at in the next few weeks and hopefully can work on protecting. I have a lot of respect for villa, and hope the predictions before the game were right about us finishing close together fighting for top 4. Also hope Mings recovers soon
So much noise was being made by the Villa fans after the preseason friendly, don't get me wrong, Villa are a very very good team, but bit premature to write Newcastle off in the media etc. Eddie Howe had a preseason plan, it showed today, we look good, better than last season, new players settled, Gordon improved, and the rest of them, stepping up another level. Villa was not an easy game on paper, and you were not that bad in large parts of the game, we were just ruthless. Also, if you're looking for a scapegoat, blame Merson, he wrote Newcastle off for this season, and tipped Villa to smash it. He's useless, I knew the moment he said those words, the victory was ours!! Good luck for the rest of the season, you're a proper club with proper fans. HWTL

I think what concerned me was the fact that 2 of our weakest players were starting because we dont have any backup (Bailey and Cash). Winger and RB should have been our main priority at the start of the window.

Hi Max - been following your Podcasts over the summer and they are superb. We have progressed well under Emery but I think we are all too optimistic - we don't have a big squad and have 4 first team players out now, incl Moreno and Jacob Ramsey. Diaby is class and he will excel. I worry for the defence as Mings is vocal and such a leader and well liked and we shouldn't have let Ashley Young go. We are light in right back areas and I believe only a couple of injuries away from being in a relegation scenario -if Emi Martinez and/or Watkins get injured we will struggle very much. I can't understand why we haven't bought a better under study keeper and another no 9/striker - someone like Iheanacho of Leicester would be perfect - regularly scores goals. And we have the bonus of Europe but with the squad getting stretched, it is going to be hard. We must bounce back and no better way against Everton who we always do well against and then Burnley. Great start for us to the season, thought Villa were good in the first half, could have went either way then. Villa manager fucked up changes and tactics and we then ran away with it.

When the fixtures were drawn and I saw it was Newcastle I knew we’d be in for a tough time. No complaints but our luck with injuries to key players at bad times is a joke. Not wishing an injury on anyone but it’s never a fringe player. Anyway hope Newcastle beat the so called Big Boys UTV.
For all of the optimism our major flaws last year were Bailey, Cash, and Olsen as back up. Why on earth are Bailey and Cash starting on our first game of the season? They’re appalling. If Martinez got sent off too then we’d have Olsen in goal for the next few weeks. Ridiculous oversights.

Can't believe how in the space of a week I've gone from feeling so optimistic to three hammerblows of the two injuries and that result. Felt like we were already a DMF, a wingback and a forward short, but now need to replace Buendia too. At least we have a few CBs and felt a bit sorry for Torres who probably wouldn't have been chucked into it that soon, but executing the high line without any cohesion at the back was suicide. Need some more signings, but keeping the faith. UTV.

Villa were OK and will be fine come the end of the season Newcastle were good last season and the squad has been improved. Thought they played really well.

Mcginn , konsa , cash , martinez looked dreadful , mcginn offered very little , Konsa isnt consistent enough at this level, he looked nervous, Cash was dreadful , and Martinez is a clown , his decision making is appalling, he has become a caricature since the world cup , he has actually declined since then , rushing out without thinking , he is constantly trying to play mind games and it doesnt work , Emery needs to get some discipline into the team.
They looked unfit , they ran out of steam before half time, thats not like us.
I know its only the first game and we can move on from it , had it been a close 1-2 loss it would be easier , but that became embarrassing.
Hopefully Emery can whip them into shape because we have been down this road before

We were awful today Ollie, McGinn, Konsa just weren’t there today. The ref and Var daint help us neither. Mings injury looked really bad he was banging the floor like crazy and looked like he was crying when he went off. To me he is the one who controls our back line. What’s your thoughts on Philogene possibly going to the bin dippers? And Aaron going to Burnley we are struggling for back up players now tbh. Been trying to get a ticket for Everton but no luck at all. So looks like watching it at home UTV
