As a mechanic who has worked for the dealer/ independents/ Porsche race car team and owned my own shops I couldn't find anything you said that would piss me off. Now I am only 57 so maybe I'm not old enough-LOL

Scotty my 2001 Honda Insight 5sp was a great car. I sold it with 471k miles; only sold because I crushed my hand and could not drive stick for two years. One clutch and that was it; ran great 73 mpg.

I’ve had good luck with our local Discount Tire store. Not only free tire rotations, but rebalanced no charge same time and they use torque wrenches. Had one new tire on my older used Prius, came with car, tire pressure kept going down. They removed tire, cleaned rim, applied sealant, fixed free! Also, had 10 old tires, took over and they recycled at $2.50 each! Local landfill company charges $50@ and $75@ if on a rim! Honest, Scotty! Ya gotta believe me! I swear by my tattoo!

Dropped the 2010 Honda off at the local mechanic shop today. I bought Mobile oil, and a NAPA PREMIUM filter from the local store. It's 0 degrees out, so while I did the oil change myself last time, he gets my business today !
Purge valve will make your car rev up and down,at lights and Idling, and it will be hard to start after getting gas, ours was stuck open flooding the engine with fumes,which is the same as gas in an engine.
I cannot say anything bad about Discount Tire. Sometimes the young people make mistakes but they've done enough free work for me to overlook a lot.
I CAN!!! Never had a tire wear out with them they always fail before out of warranty got old replacing tires all the time. The tires where all 40k tires. nowadays I go to Costco, they don't sell crap tires... I got 60k Michelin tires for my 14inch rims 97 honda civic, they never need air.. they never leak really. I have gotten about 3 sets of 4 tires from Discount tire never wore out always failed all of them!!! You really get what you paid for with Discount tire.

I bought a set of Michelins for my father's Lexus. Yes I bought the warranty. He was in his late 80's and when he drove he used the entire road including the curb. He always said I got another FREE tire today. He replaced close to 8 tires on warranty. I got to think he was just doing it for free stuff.
Yeah, Discount Tire and Walmart tire center have saved me loads of money.

Have a just broken-in 2004 Toyota Highlander 3.3L with only 181,650 miles. Runs and drives great with 19 MPG overall. Only done required maintenance, plugs and belt.
I own a 2010 Toyota Camry LE, V6. I bought it in 2009. I55K miles. It is starting to nickel and dime me but it beats a $400 carpayment. I will try to keep it as long as I can.
Our 2003 Camry has 296,000 miles. Only has had the valve cover gasket changed by me and a starter. It’s an amazing vehicle
cvt in all my toyotas hybrids.. no issues ever *Knock on wood.

Toyota hybrids use E-CVT which is a planetary gearset (yes, real gears in a CVT) but instead of clutches and brakes, it uses 2 electric motors control the gear ratio.

Now, before anyone asks me to "name one", I will not - for the simple fact that people's preconceived notions are very rarely, if ever, able to be changed.
You think an honest person says they watched the tire guy mount a new tire incorrectly and didn’t get the problem fixed then and there? If you know the guy did it wrong and it was unsafe, would you ride around on that improperly mounted tire for a couple months?

I started with the ford falcon, then I went through 3 GMs. Now I am on my 4th Toyota 2 got wrecked and I still have the other 2 .
That is true about Discount Tire, they ruined four tires of mine and tried to blame a different company for ruining them, since no one else ever touched them I said no! They eventually replaced them. They tried the warranty scam with me, but it did not work!
Years ago I had a Toyota 4x4 with 31" tire's and had several sets over time, but it never took more than 1.25 oz to balance. I buy a set from a big box store and noticed that one tire had 2.5 oz on it and told them to remove it that something was wrong with it. They said that until something actually happened that they couldn't. I drove 2.5 miles home and it threw a belt on the way. Following day I took it in and asked for management because if I was the highway it could've turned out bad. I got the tire plus something for my time.
You will always be my favorite mechanic! A person can acquire wealth and fame . Ones honor and integrity can once compromised not be returned ! Thanks for everything you do and God Bless!!

Does the highlander have the same drive train as the tacoma?
Man you would mention Cotton Brothers in Houston. They were the best place to have work on vehicles. I personally use SAMs Wholesale for tires. They are competitive in price and mounting and road hazard which is only $20 each.

There’s plenty people walking around signaling their honesty and integrity. I was taught to keep an eye on those folks because they are usually the liars.
I could use help i open my truck door f 150 and the lights come on and a knocking noise is dun dun fast for like 5 to 20 seconds it sounds its coming from the dash or the cluster screen dash area just fast dun dun dun dun trucks not on just open the dor a clixking noise like behind the steering wheel past the screen in the odomoter or from the middle are on a 2013 ford f150 maybe its a bad chip idk or fuse ill record and see if i can send it to somebody for advice

I have a question for you scotty... My wife has a 2006 Acura TSX and when the outside temperature drops below freezing her air system doesn't turn on... No heat no cold no ac no nothing, but as soon as the temperature gets above freezing it turns right back on and works perfectly fine... I can't find anything about it on google
My daughter had 2017 Maxda only got 70,000 miles till trans.when bad,she got rid of it.

I had someone get water in their trans and they drained it and while on the ramps they just started it while drain plug was out and left it in park and there was so much water that came out after the 1st drain stopped dripping so starting the car pushed the water out of the torque converter
And pumps that otherwise would’ve gotten stuck in there.
Then they put a suction hose and pumped out from the filler hole.
They put fresh ATF and car was fine for 60k miles til they sold it
Discount Tire put the wrong size tires on my GF's car (a Honda Fit), slightly too big for it. Seemed right until she made a tight turn and one of them caught the edge of the wheel well. No bueno. Discount Tire swapped the tires for the right size on the second try, but they insisted on charging me $90 for each installation. I still think the second one should have been free, go figure. It was their mistake, and it even damaged the car slightly. SO we won't go back.
Scotty, what are your thoughts on Consumer Reports reliability testing? In an earlier episode you mentioned that getting the Nissan Frontier V6 over the new 4 banger Tacoma. When I look up my 2023 Frontier on consumer reports it rates my frontier super low. Should I be concerned?
On a 2011 equinox 3.0 6cyl driving on a bad camshaft sensor for a few hours. On a road trip I had a (0017)code. I still drove it home. It did have a rough idle when I finally shut it off and started it back up. Will that mess my timing chain permanently or other damage.
I go to Discount Tire. The one location i like does a phenomenal job. I never bought a warranty and they have never charged me to check the tires out after I had screws lodged in them twice last year. They have treated me well so far.

I know this is a stupid question but you helped me when you had your Dodge Caravan back in the days. Now I have a Honda 2009 Fitz and I love this car. Should I change my antifreeze fluid? If yes how often? It’s been a while and I trust your input. Take Care🤗
If it's that old I'd say go for it. It isn't that hard. The additives and anti corrosion stuff in the coolant will wear down over time, so it's a good idea to replace it.

An advantage of a car with manual transmission is that when the car has high mileage, they need to replace the clutch and the bolts will be touched. So, nobody can hide it and you will notice it, regardless of the odometer saying. Another advantage of it.

I really like you and your videos and mostly agree. I agree with so many cars too and manufacturers as well. Ever to a degree about Audi, that I love.. The 2015 S4 is way better than the 2021 S3. I would really swap. No problems with either really, but the newer model has terrible turning circle, so parking is harder. I have seen the video of parking and I agree. I have complained to Audi btw
All the new Toyotas trucks and SUVs (minus the 24 4Runner and 23 Tacoma) have awful annoying stop/start. No way they run forever like the older ones..
I've had nothing but great experiences at Discount Tire with multiple family vehicles over many years. With Tire Plus I had negative experiences.

Hay Scotty people say when a car is on high mileage , (more than 200000 )we should switch to a thicker oil. Manufacture says nothing as such in my service book about high mileage switching to thick oil. It just says 5w-30. What is your take on this?

Scottie, my husband and I just bought a new Tacoma TRD. This is my fourth car since I was 16yo and I'm 60 now. I had a 1980 Ford Fiesta (indestructible). Then, a 1990 Camry V6 LE and I got 337,000 miles on it with just scheduled maintenance. After that, a 2000 GS 300 Lexus that I sold with 287,000 miles. I hope Toyota doesn't change because I don't know what I would buy. I love my Toyotas because I listen to my friends with Jeeps that replace the whole car before they buy a new Jeep. lol. I live on an island where roads are terrible and mountainous, and I would say 50% of the cars here are Toyotas. Love you, Scottie.
I got just over 80 thousand miles on My original 1988 B2000 Mazda Bridgestone tires made in Japan.
I don’t know why everyone hates on JTCO CVT transmissions. They’re not great but they’re not terrible either. I have a 2001 Altima with 160,000 miles on it. Yes, I had to swap the valve body in it. Cost me $160 plus $100 for more CVT trans fluid but the darn car looks good, runs good and still gets 20-25mpg. The big selling point here is IT’S LONG SINCE PAID FOR. It’s 2024 and I still don’t have to buy a car.
