Fun story for the throttle cable thing. Years ago, i was working at a gas station, and one of the guys there had an old firebird from the 70s that was sitting behind the garage forever. While i was dumping trash at the dumpster, one of the techs came out to move it for him. It was then that i realized that there was a string routed through the hole in the firewall where the pedal was supposed to go. So he turns the thing over, and goes to pull it up behind the boss man's new Escalade, and tugs on the damn string once too hard, and bumps straight into the Caddy. We all rush to see the damage, myself, the tech that was moving the car, and one other tech that had come out for a smoke. This was the generation of firebird with the pointed sheet metal front end, and lucky for the guy messing with it, it only touched the toe hitch ball. His exact words were "just walk away". No sooner do we do so, and i go back to the dumpster, than boss man comes around the other side of the building, and goes to his Caddy, none the wiser.
One thing to know about the window hack -- which is undeniably badass -- is that parts designed for 120VAC get away with running 10x the power through the same gauge wire as 12VDC, because amperage is what determines wire size. There are two reasons we still stick with 12V instead of going higher voltage: higher voltages present more shock danger because they can overcome skin resistance, and the most reliable lead acid batteries love to be arrayed in 6 cells of 2V each.
So, my exhaust burnt through my starter cable. I took a similar extension cord as the window hack, stripped one side off and ran it from the solenoid to the starter. That was 20 years ago, and I still haven't fixed it properly.
Wire is rated by amps not watts so you are correct. The lower the voltage the higher the amps. That's why voltage drop in low volt can melt wires easier than high voltage.

In cases like these the handbrake is always going to save you because it is mechanical (a literal cable going to your back wheels, like a bicycle brake) and not hydraulic. Especially so with a ratcheting one in the center console, which you can even "modulate" up to a point. We were forced to do it for a bit in our old family car... so trust me, in case of emergencies it works.
An important thing to note also is if you put a petroleum based fluid like oil, trans fluid, or power steering fluid into your brake system it will straight up swell and destroy all your seals, hoses, and any rubber bit in your brake system because those parts weren't made to stand up against petroleum since DOT 3 brake fluid is alcohol and polyethylene glycol based. It is also important to mention DOT 5 fluids are silicone based and require non rubber parts and certain Rolls Royce hydro fluid systems are mineral oil based. Dot 3 and 4 are mixable in a pinch since they are both PG/alcohol based but to get the full benefits of DOT 4 fluid you'd need to clear the DOT 3 out and refill with just DOT 4.

I always felt slightly inadequate in the field but they make me realise how much I actually know and I feel like that's a special ability in its own they provide.

I love the light switch one. Did something similar when the connections went bad in my 89 Mustang, used a “doorbell” button zip tied to the steering wheel. Lead to an interesting exchange one night when I got pulled over. Cop saw it, leaned his head into my window and promptly banged his head on my doorframe when he pressed it and the horn went off.

I'll never forget this advice from an old school hot rodder when people were saying heating springs to lower a truck would "ruin it and it would break and blah blah blah" he said "I've been riding on torched springs forever, don't tell my springs that". He said when he was a teenager you couldn't just get shorter springs for most cars. His advice was "90% of this game is having the balls to do it".
Here's a fun one for you. When automatic windshield wipers were first developed they ran on vacuum. The engine would build enough vacuum in a vac can, and the wipers would be pulled to one side and would open up a bleed valve to vent into the vac-can. Once the wiper completed its pass, a spring would return it to neutral while the vacuum can recharged. Most folks would just disconnect the arm going to the vacuum system and manually run the wipers.
OMG every time Sandro is censored with a car horn my dog loses his mind barking at the door and it's actually really adding to the experience of how funny this video already is.
Wait a second, I remember that episode of MacGiver. That's a 1970 Volvo 164, and thats a washer fluid hose he's squirting fluid in the master cylinder with! Never noticed that until now...those cars have pretty big hoses with braiding over them for the power steering! Dang TV shows!😅

Angelina makes the animators earn their keep, I don't think there was a single clip where her great explanations weren't paired with an animated diagram 😂
For the wipers (9:50 or so) I remember my first car I got at 16. 2001 dodge dakota sport. Little black truck just like I wanted! A couple years down the road my wiper motor blew so I got a new one, and the switch blew after that so I got a new one as well. Both ended up working fine, but the new switch was being finicky with the wipers! So I wired a little lever switch to the motor, and put a battery in the motor. I’m a pilot, so I was already familiar with it. Sorry if this was hard to read, english isn’t my first language.
Love this channel! Sandro is just a naturally hilarious dude! Miss A’s combo of personality and knowledge makes for some of the best explanations (and reactions) out there.
For the pliers motorcycle clutch cable thing: For my play off road bike (1993 dr 650), my kit includes a small vice grip for EXACTLY this use. Yes, I've got a spare clutch cable (ok, it's a roll of stranded wire, a sleeve, and some anchors), but the vice grips work in a pinch (narf !) when you're on the side of a mountain, dumped it, snapped the lever, and just need to get to camp.
I've done a few dodgy repairs to get by over the years: * Hose clamps and drink cans to fix a split exhaust * Hose clamps and some coolant hose offcuts to cover a hole in a metal cooling pipe * Zip ties to hold the shifter cables in place after the boot that holds them and lets the cable slide tore. * Jump pack in place of the battery to get it home when it kept dying * Terminal block to adapt stereo wiring * Stockings as an airfilter on a carby * Manual floor switch to bypass broken headlight relay Im sure there is stuff I cant think of right now. Edit: OK that carrier bearing hose fix is amazing.
I’d love to see Sandro and Angelina guest star in one of the Donut challenges where they challenge someone to fix a car. Could even work them into it and say any time you ask their advice it’s -10 mins or something
The horn switch is a momentary contact switch... and on some pre airbag Chryslers, it was two copper plates separated by foam. One of the tabs from the upper plate would, over time, saw its way through the plastic guide and make contact with the other horn plate. Why yes I personally discovered this and had to pull the fuse for the horn so i could drive home.
1:20 One of the things I love about old G body Chevy Van's with Inline 6 or V8 engines in them is how easy it is to improvise missing parts or to get them running enough to get them home. I once drove an '82 Chevy G10 Van with a 250 Inline 6 home after buying it by bringing a junky spare monojet carb with me to swap out the dead one, pinned the choke open on the carb with a spring from a dead Gamestop PS2 steering wheel set, used a throttle return spring from a '91 Cadillac, and left the engine cover off so I could use my hand to work the throttle. It was positioned perfectly. Since it was an automatic and I'm ambidextrous I could steer with my left hand and use the throttle with my right. With my Van a '79 with a 350 V8, I've driven the throttle by hand on my Quadrajet to get to work and to get a replacement when my cable snapped one day. My shifter lever broke off on the column one time in a parking lot on a hill one night after work and I had to keep my foot on the brake while I undid the engine cover. I managed to get my L shaped tire iron within my reach in the cab and slid it into the shift linkage to get it into park. I was then able to disconnect the linkage and secure the iron into the fork. I drove it home that way in below freezing weather. I made a new shifter lever from one I took off a 2004 GMC Envoy in the junkyard. Writing this I starting to think.... If someone wants me to do some videos on my van give me a like XD

No in MacGyver the giy pinched the line, and THEN added fluid to maintain enough pressure to get the brakes to work somewhat. I think it would work lol
On my 1982 Goldwing with sidecar, my Pull-throttle cable end snapped off, going uphill, passing a semi. Having the throttle immediately cut off and managing to coast over to the side, then remove the carbs enough to connect the Push-throttle cable in it's place was real fun since all the throttle cables have custom ends on them designed to fit nicely into the controls and hold them in place. The "im just gonna ride home tonight" turned into "guess im going back to that last campground" by the time i got that swapped over. If i'd had a tiny set of visegrips with at the time, i would have tied or taped them to the throttle and would have been on my way. Got those in the trunk now, along with a replacement cable set.
The clip with the fuel hose leaking fuel into the carb. Look closely it's running into the secondaries not the primaries so those plates are closed until 3/4 throttle opening a ten second clip the cars running on the normal carb supplying fuel and the secondaries are just filling up with fuel until it would overflow but the clip cuts off before we see it happen
9:26 Some of the first windshield wipers on cars actually worked similar to this. They were just connected to a lever on the inside of the windshield that was operated by hand. Manual wipers.

This. When there's one "mechanic" in town and it's your crazy neighbour's grandson, sometimes you just gotta look at what you already have and just... Get to it.
@@mausm7534 The ignition wiring on one of my old tractors was found by a rat, said fuck it and bypassed it. We start the thing by sparking the starter with a battery cable and turn it off with the fuel cutoff. Took far less time to do that than it would have been to "fix" it the right way.
In the Army we called this BDAR(Battle Damage Assessment and Repair). We had kits which provided material which would hopefully get our equipment back up and running. As the Marines like to say, " Improvise, adapt and overcome!" Whatever gets you back home 😮😂 Great video guys. I'm a retired military mechanic and enjoy these videos. Keep up the great work!
Crazy to discover Ms.A is on here. Being a former student. Loved her amazing personality. She had endless knowledge. She was a is a amazing teacher in RCC automotive program

Angelina is the best mechanic on the show for the detailed explanation of each scenario
Sandro is 100% a real dude. Such a genuinely nice funny dude.
These two ARE the Crew! I see Sandro and Angelina, I hit 👍. They do not disappoint!
Angelinas knowledge and ability to convey that to others is astonishing !
Angelina herself is doing better on every vid she joins in. The way she explains every bit has a fun twist. Id want to attend her class if I could
Y'all struck such a nice balance in this video, Miss A the Shop Teacher living up to her name and Sandro's delivery being just perfect. I really click quickly when I see either of them in the thumbnail
Aight I got to say it. I LOVE way Sandro is SO interested watching all the hacks. You can legit see him totally soaking it all in when it's playing!
Angelina’s vast knowledge and ability to break stuff down on the spot is amazing, much love
It would be better if she were correct.

I'd love to see Sandro the vampire mechanic and Angelina the mechanic teacher host an entire episode solely by themselves.
Why you call him a vampire?

I love how Angelina does all of the explaining.
Santos would be like, bleep, bleep, it's for the boys, bleep.
She doesn’t even need a script, just runs with it and they add the graphics later. Give her a series of here own.
Sandro! Who is Santos? 😂
@Blue967 - I only speak English, and Spanish confuses me.
Forgive me.
Guys, this series is a masterpiece. Don't stop it, and with Angelina and Sandro. Tks
Angelina and Sandro are both freakin awesome! Looking forward to more content with these two mechanics.
Also, I love the "zippy tie" belt fix, it's just A/C, it's not like they're running a camshaft with it so let's go!
I just love Angelina's explanations, she looks like a very good teacher. I'd love to attend her classes
I know why 😂😂😂😂
Listening to Sandro and Angelina explain things makes me feel good about what I've learned over the years. I know exactly what they're gonna explain every time. I never went to school and learned on the job. I always felt slightly inadequate in the field but they make me realise how much I actually know and I feel like that's a special ability in its own they provide.
Learning on the job can be the best way. All practical
As a newbie DIY shade tree mechanic, it makes me feel good that I know some of these words now...
@keijimorita1849 I agree for the most part. But there's some certain aspects of diagnosis and wiring that I wish i had gone to school for. I've changed careers slightly adjacent now though. I love working on vehicles... just not for a career.
@TheInaneAsylum I'm glad that these videos aid people that want to do their own work. Nothing wrong with a shade tree. It's all the better when you can take it knowledge instead of winging it like a lot of others do.
Angelina and Sandro for the win. As always it’s an instant watch when either are on the thumbnail. Great stuff y’all
Sandro cracks me up man. What a great find.
Thank you Sandro for not over explaining every video! More of him please!
If you're gonna drive out to the middle of nowhere make sure to take a friend like Sandro... No matter what goes wrong you're sure to get home 🤣😂

one of my favorite channels - kinda hit or miss lately with the donut channel but feel like every one of these videos puts a smile on my face without wanting to skip any of it.
Wrong about 'kinda hit or miss', just hit after hit all year.
@@cenciende9401 weird, because my opinion is hit or miss, and last I checked, I was allowed to have that opinion. I'm glad you love all their content they put out, but unfortunately that is not the case for me, and for many others. But thanks for trying to tell me I'm wrong for thinking differently than you and feeling the need to say something. Have a great night!
His advice was "90% of this game is having the balls to do it".
these two are such a vibe. other dudes are cool too, but there's something about this combo...
Angelina and Sandro is a killer combo
Here's a fun one for you. When automatic windshield wipers were first developed they ran on vacuum. The engine would build enough vacuum in a vac can, and the wipers would be pulled to one side and would open up a bleed valve to vent into the vac-can. Once the wiper completed its pass, a spring would return it to neutral while the vacuum can recharged. Most folks would just disconnect the arm going to the vacuum system and manually run the wipers.
OMG every time Sandro is censored with a car horn my dog loses his mind barking at the door and it's actually really adding to the experience of how funny this video already is.
Lmao that's hilarious
😂
I gotta say, I love watching Angelina and Sandro do these RMS. They're down to earth.
Wait a second, I remember that episode of MacGiver. That's a 1970 Volvo 164, and thats a washer fluid hose he's squirting fluid in the master cylinder with! Never noticed that until now...those cars have pretty big hoses with braiding over them for the power steering! Dang TV shows!😅
I really love the light-heartedness of the videos on this channel! Plus Sandro and Angelina are an absolute treat!
sandro is an absolute gem lmfao
Yall make me happy everytime.
I love when Angelina goes into Teacher Mode. 'Splain it to the people! She and Sandro continue to outshine the regular Donut guys...which is saying something. This is the best Donut content since High-Low, IMO.
The best mechanics on this show. I love the dynamics they bring. Sandro says what we're all thinking.
I want to see them on the main Donut channel helping with a project. Angelina on Hi-car and Sandro on Lo-car.
@@t0bikagethat would be so fun
All of the mechanics you have shown are great in front of the camera and know what’s they’re talking about! Love this show!!
Angelina&Sandro best real mechanics. Sandro and Angelina really add soooo much to these. Great pair!.
Angelina makes the animators earn their keep, I don't think there was a single clip where her great explanations weren't paired with an animated diagram 😂
The diagram and explanation are both incorrect.
Ikr and I'm glad they do cuz makes it so much easier for me to understand 😂❤
those animators are eating well tonight!!!!

@@Porschapls There was only one diagram 11:26, but she is also wrong at 0:25 A/C compressors have a clutch pulley, that is a power steering pump.
For the wipers (9:50 or so)
I remember my first car I got at 16. 2001 dodge dakota sport.
Sandro and Angelina really add soooo much to these. Great pair!
Love this channel! Sandro is just a naturally hilarious dude! Miss A’s combo of personality and knowledge makes for some of the best explanations (and reactions) out there.
For the pliers motorcycle clutch cable thing:
For my play off road bike (1993 dr 650), my kit includes a small vice grip for EXACTLY this use. Yes, I've got a spare clutch cable (ok, it's a roll of stranded wire, a sleeve, and some anchors), but the vice grips work in a pinch (narf !) when you're on the side of a mountain, dumped it, snapped the lever, and just need to get to camp.
If I lived in Cali, I would honestly take Angelina's class. Excellent explanations and teaching and a whole lotta fun.
You guys post right when I go to lunch at work. It's fantastic. The donut team does some good producing.
I've done a few dodgy repairs to get by over the years:
* Hose clamps and drink cans to fix a split exhaust
* Hose clamps and some coolant hose offcuts to cover a hole in a metal cooling pipe
* Zip ties to hold the shifter cables in place after the boot that holds them and lets the cable slide tore.
* Jump pack in place of the battery to get it home when it kept dying
* Terminal block to adapt stereo wiring
* Stockings as an airfilter on a carby
* Manual floor switch to bypass broken headlight relay
Im sure there is stuff I cant think of right now.
Angelina explains why some of these hacks work and Sandro has put some of these hacks into practice. A perfect combo.
It's like mythbusters... For THE BOYS!
Sandro is really cool and willingly leans into other people's sense of humor and so when we laugh with him and at his jokes we feel like we're kind of as cool as he is. That's how we're all the boys. Well I mean I'm a girl so I'm just down for the boys if you know what I mean
I learn a lot from just listening to Angelina I could probably listen to her talk about cars all day
Angelina and Sandro are my faves on this channel. Do more content with these 2 pls!
Sandro is pure comedy...love that guy.
No in MacGyver the giy pinched the line, and THEN added fluid to maintain enough pressure to get the brakes to work somewhat. I think it would work lol
I absolutely love this series!! Both Angelina and Sandro are great on camera.
Angelina and Sandro are fantastic guests, both are knowledgeable and take different opinions on fixes and stuff it's great!
I love Sandro and Angelina :D I look forward for their episodes
These two need to be on more. Love them both.
