Nice work guys! Ikea for the win and you did an awesome job customizing them. We feel your pain on how difficult they are to install. We literally just did this and it wasn't easy! Can't wait to see how you do your bottom cabinets. "this is how you get ants" 😂 LOL
Watching this made me feel a little better. I just bought a high roof transit and have 4 months to build it out by myself and kept hearing taboos about using ikea/big box store prefabs, but I have no carpentry skills and few tools and little time so this feels like a better option for me. It looks great! Good job, guys!
If we were to do it again, we would try to make our own. These work, but the sizing isn't ideal. But it definitely helped using IKEA as newbies. Good luck!
Oops about fly opens (being embarrassed). Excellent idea about buying the cabinets then fixing or cutting or etc until it looks good! You both didn’t give up! I am so impressed with this! ❤️❤️
I have been delaying cabinets for two years. So yeah, I feel ya. I'm finally to the point my $5 yard sale dresser isn't working so I'm just about to build them.
now after building pre-fab ones, taking them apart, cutting them up, and putting them back together, i feel more confident about being able to make them... maybe next time. Good luck with yours!
we actually got quite a bit from IKEA. Not knowing the first thing about building or what the heck we were getting ourselves into it seemed like a decent idea. So far so good!
Thanks much for the video! Of course, don't beat yourself up about installing the cabinets before the backsplash! I once had a home built and spent an entire summer (Yes, an entire summer!) getting a "professional" builder to remove a doorway that was not on the specs!
Good job guys! You managed to get them up and that's the main thing. We're currently converting a van in Scotland and we're always realising we should have did something different 7 steps ago lol. Keep up the good work and safe journeys! Subscribed!
thank you so much! We will always look back and see things we'd do differently, but the important thing is youre doing it! good luck :) Find us on IG if you havent and we'd love to follow your progress!
our first trip put them to the test and they worked great. We did also buy some door "locks" from IKEA as well so we'll add that for a little extra security.
awesome! Good luck! Can't wait to see! And hope to visit our northern neighbors when restrictions are lifted! We'll need the cooler weather come summer
Hey guys! Just watched your vid, using Ikea stuff is always a bit easier hehe. That's what we did for our counter cabinets and bed. Also, we are very jealous of your nice weather. While we are converting in snowy Canada hahaha cheers guys
Looks great! Here's a tip... the round cam locks on the bottom of your cabinets that lock the connectors (they look like screws) hold the cabinet together. But those can come loose because the vibration of the van, and the cabinet can fall apart. If you add 1 wood screw about an inch away from each connector and coat them with wood glue before driving, that solves the problem. Or maybe I just have bad shocks! Lol
You guys did great! The hard work definitely paid off. You are so fun to watch. I wish we had IKEA where we are so we'd have that option, although our handmade modified body is not perfect rectangles, so it could be challenging as well. Sending love from the Philippines!
From experience with furniture on Herold, you must glue every seam along with screws. Always add a washer if screwing directly to the metal of the van.
Eeek! We’re so excited to have you watching! We’re working on new content now! The van is ALMOST done and we can’t wait to share the final results! Feel free to follow along on IG as well 💛
How are the cabinets holding up after all the driving? I would like to do something similar but I'm concerned about them popping off the brackets when I hit a bump.
Funny you ask, John! They actually survived very well for 2 years with no issues - BUT we decided to go ahead and switch out for some custom built ones to maximize space better and relieve some stress from constant worry about the weight of the IKEA ones. While they worked fine, and yes they were cheaper, I’d go custom if we did it again. We’re still using the IKEA lower cabinets for the sink etc and that’s doing well.
@@PatrickandArthur Thanks for the reply!! I'm doing my build now and am on an Ikea budget so I am glad to hear they survived for 2 years!! Did you use the Enhet by chance?
Good idea, I was thinking about doing the same thing. Ive seen other that also add some extra reinforcement on the cabinets like extra screws and i think some glue or some tape to help with the longevity a bit. as there will be lots of vibrations and the ikea screws that come with it arent the best. might be one extra customization later on :) Cheers!
Ketchup with Max sent me. I couldn't find you in the YT search because I typed Paws 4 A Pit Stop. lol Jose sent me the link. You guys know about Pask Makes or Wranglerstar? Pask is a craftsman who works in wood and metal, Wrangler is a homesteader and woodsmith. They might be helpful. I think your project looks like a lot of fun. Looking forward to the progress uploads. Paz y salud.
Great idea!!! I’ve been thinking and watching other vanbuilds. IKEA will be the best choice for me since I have zero building skills. Our van is make shift for now but every time we go out camping I keep thinking cabinets. Did you custom order or were these store inventory? What kind were these?
Hey there! Yes, we totally understand. Even though we had to make some slight modifications, these IKEA Sektion cabinets works really well. We're planning on adding shelves too! The ones we got (30 X 15 X 15) were available in store.
So far so good! They will probably be our first “re-do” when it’s time to make updates, but only because they are a little big for our liking. Work great and store a lot but we could use some extra space.
We had a BUSY year and havent finished the van just yet, BUT we have been using it quite a bit and are making some new videos now! We'll be back on the youtubes soon :)
Nice job guys! Here's a thought...can you order another door from IKEA and replace the cabinet door? There is usually a parts list that will spec out that door! Or can you just buy another piece of melamine and make your own new door?
Hi Linda - sorry we meant for a van. We've had lots of IKEA in our house over the years, but we found that it is quite heavy and a van really needs a lot of things customized for more efficient space saving. The cabinets worked great and we've had them in the van for well over a year with no issue.... buuuut... we are replacing them so stay tuned for some exciting updates :)

Love the Churro toast! Congrats! I think they look great! All you need is for them to function and it looks like they do the job!
we love churros :) thanks! now we can bring more snacks on the road!
Great Work! You’re definitely more patient than I am.
Thank you! And there was a reason for pizza and churros haha

I m considering using similar cabinets. You may need to consider how to keep those cabinets closed when you're driving...

Which cabinets did you guys get? How have they withstood the test of time? Great video guys.
