Had a 1960 Austin Seven mini in 1975 so it was well used but drove really well and apart from the rot on the doors and floor pan which I had fixed was a nice little motor .
The steering wheel tilt is similar of a go-kart one...just need a bucket seats for a lower position clearing room for driver's knees and lower the center of gravity, there you have possibly the closest of a go-kart experience for the road
I've always wanted to have a go in a classic mini, I was a passenger in one earlier this year, but yet to drive in the hot seat of one. I'll have to hire one some time!
I believe the reason that it pops out of second is the fact that a common driver error with a mini is keeping your hand on the gearstick while it’s in gear in a modern car it will be absolutely fine however in a mini I think it uses a brass selector fork to engage the gears and often that wears out leading to it dropping out of gear.
So deceptively large on the inside, I'm 6' and fit in fine, my dad who's 6' 7" used to have one! Now he has a DeLorean instead which he also has plenty of room in
yep you can push it harder because it only has enough to push it as hard as it can go, top speed maybe around 80 mph. Just picked one up today and drove it home in the rain, loads of water came in through the vent and got not he headlight switches, I was worried about it but it should be ok. funnest thing I've ever driven.
If the 2nd gear pops out, either the engine mount is worn out (gear pops out while driving downwards) or, if the gear pops out on the straight too, the 2nd gear, its synchro hub and baulk ring are worn out. It's a well known mini issue. :D
If you're afraid of being to tall for a Mini, don't be! Me and my brother are both 2.00 metres tall and there are many possibilities to move the sear back. The passenger seat is fine stock.
I would like to buy this mini but the 500 special edition but they cost £20k I don't know whether I'm making a mistake buying one as an investment. But the thing that keeps coming across my mind is if motoring is going electric , will classic car prices go way down?
Somebody needs to start pumping out hybrid and fully electric versions of the classic mini, they'd be fucking rapid having direct drive.could make being eco friendly fun
Yeah but the gearbox and clutch are probably really smooth no double de-clutch or loss of synchromesh, ride is probably smoother with better suspension and the brakes were upgraded on later models to disc brakes. Also earlier models had a smaller 998cc engine not a 1275cc
Yeah i guess it just depends on the condition on the Mini but no doubt newer ones are more than likely going to be in better condition than the originals and this guy has probably bought the very best and lowest mileage.
I am planning on purchasing one soon. My dad had a mini mayfair for his first car back in the 1970's, he somehow fit into it even though he is 6ft 6. And i see what you mean about maintenance, but his car does seem to be very well maintained
Nice to see someone younger has found the classic mini is fun.
Driving postion can be fixed quite easily.
Talks about lacks of rust, before then driving it straight through a puddle 😂 That made me chuckle Sid :)
Have never driven Old Mini's before and boy was it a breath of fresh air!! I wanna drive more old Cars now!! 👀🏁
SidewaySid would be cool to see you drive some jdm tuner cars, skyline, supra, Silvia, evo etc
SidewaySid my first car is going to be a classic mini and I can't wait to get my hands on one
I love this driver position. modern cars feel weird to me, I don't want the steering wheel in my view, when i look straight along bonnet
Nothing makes you feel and smile quite as much as a British classic

Brilliant drive, just like a go kart. Everyone should drive a Mini at least once. Respond to bit of tuning very well. You need discs at the front!
I love the sound of these old minis!!

You are so close to the ground it always feels fast, lightweight, direct steering, fantastic.

I would love one like that
Max Smith Same here mate. They just make you grin 😀.
I'd love to drive a Classic Mini, hopefully one day! Although they're only getting more expensive...
Billy RS they are incredible cars to drive so much fun

au secours le bruit infernal!!! oh my god infernal sound inside !!!!
Good video, man. I’ve owned 3 classic minis including a yellow 1275 & a white mini van. Should never have sold the van. 😢
The door hinges always destroy the door rubbers over times
You can see part of the rubber eaten away when Sid opens the door
Where's Sid gone? His top is camouflaged to the car! 😂
How tall are you???
Great video

This is the perfect mini : It's red and with a ragtop!
Great car. All about keeping momentum
nice video mate
does it drive well in long road trip?
I put an offer on Cooper Monte Carlo didn't test the car yet, your feed back will help. thanks
Don't get why you put the clutch in to start it 😉.. Nice car.
Hopefully im gonna get a mini for my first soon
You need to drive an older mini with a proper carb and lumpy cam and modified head etc for the proper experience 😉
Syd:No rust at the moment
*Drives through a wammm puddle*
Nice video mate, keep up the good work 👌

Aled Davies not if the demand is still there. They most likely will continue to go up, unless people lose interest then I reckon they won’t decrease
You diserve much more subs wow great vid
Color job is great
Personally I would pay a pretty penny to get the 500 version with an s works conversion for around £20,000

Very nice video! intro's song?
Ultimate classic Sideways machine has to be a Ford Escort on a gravel road, right? Need to get yourself behind the wheel of one, Sid!
excellent video. new sub!
God I would love one! ❤️
Anonymous Caveman me too especially the s works version
which rover mini is the best of the lot? are there any particular models that are more collectible or valued? cheers.
Swee Yong The RSP
My first classic car drive was in my 1968 Volkswagen Beetle
The Rover Mini was the best of the classic! Made me miss the 1275GT we had...
Needs the gearbox fixed if what you claim is true. Probably had a leak for the rings to wear down
Cool car
That twin DTM sounds horrendous
Mini Matt TV needs an rc40
😏: an emoji that shows my feelings!
£700 in 1960 is the equivalent of about £15,000 in 2018 due to inflation. So I guess the price of mini's have gone down.
He's wrong though. Actually £497 in 1959. I make that £11,360 today.
Hi
Lucky bugger
I what one so so bad man
im sorry but that is not a classic mini
Way too easy to drive
