Watching this with my wife, she said "I don't do ANY of these things."
Then Bo said "Tiny pumpkins!" and my wife looked at me and growled "Don't say a *fucking* word." 😁

Is this the critically acclaimed patreon exclusive Bo Burham video? If so, neat.

Oops, didn't mean to imply that THIS video was a Patreon exclusive 😰 The rant that inspired it was and the rough cut is, but not the overall video

I think this video is really well constructed. I guess my only problem is that it takes a while to get to that humanizing point, and up until then it does feel really mocking, even if he undercuts it later. Like you mentioned about the dog in the flower crown, there is some poking fun, so I almost skipped the rest of the song before we got to the point. I guess I feel like he kinda went too hard into the "this is how everyone makes fun of white girls on Instagram" before taking the necessary turn

Props to Bo for not accidentally ripping off his facial with the tape.

I always found this song to be one of the saddest in the special. The empathy and the heart that he brings to her posts, combined with that unexpected bridge about her parents, kinda crushed me the first time through. I liked that you put more of a positive spin on it, you're right to say that it's a celebration.

Now that you mention that most of the special is critical of the internet, White Women's Instagram and Welcome to the Internet are my favorites of the special and there is an interesting contrast.
(Also just realizing that she lost both her parents before she turned 30 😭)

I was crying when I first watched white womans instagram because I was like "fuck this is what it feels like people expect me to be and look at how much effort and money it takes"

It's funny, I always thought that the "dead mama hours" felt really off because it was a very sincere and personal touch to a criticism of Instagram posting essentially, but now looking at it through this light and relisting to the song it fits really well. I think I was just looking at it through the wrong lens rather than it not fitting correctly. Thanks for the wonderful content btw, keep it up.

I officially hate Bo for making me cry at the words "goat cheese salad".
(Although, to be fair, I've had to deal with a lot of loss these last 4.5 years or so and the dead mama portion hit me pretty hard)

I know you didn’t actually ask but from what I can tell without re-listening to the song, it is a bridge. A bridge generally expands on the emotional core of the song and sometimes offers something to keep up momentum. It is also generally the place that sounds a bit different because you can go to different places musically, be that using chords outside of the key, going to the relative minor/major, or by creating some tonal ambiguity as opposed to the verse which would typically be using chords strongly centered around wanting to resolve to the tonic.
In other words the bridge is usually a section with some type of contrast to the rest of the sections in a song.

I think I agree with both your and Danny's takes. I definitely see the song being fleshed out and deeper than it appears on the surface, I also think that it does just sound like a list and isn't the best work from the special. the general population will not look as deep into the song as you did. I think ultimately it comes down to the people's perception of the song and the impact it makes. Truly, I think it has a rather negative impact in furthering misogyny, whether that was the intent or not.
