I'm much older than you, but I have only recently discovered these things. Oh my God, the problems I could have avoided myself if I had been aware of this stuff earlier!
Oh yes the menstrual cycle... On certain days I have no energy at all, I feel like I've been hit by a truck, I'm so negative and morose. Definitely cannot get anything done for a week at least.
I also think that study time depends on the level! I can easily study Spanish ( I have an upper intermediate level) for several hours and also remember many words at once, while in languages I just recenlty started, I can only concentrate for around 30 minutes
Isn't it funny how that works? I feel exhausted after some beginner lessons sometimes, but time seems to pass really quickly for advanced langs. Thanks for sharing!
I think in the beginning, learning a new language is tiring because not only leaning new words but also how to pronounce those words (speaking from the back of the throat with one word and from the nose with another word etc.) so we’re building new neurological roads in our brains which take up a lot of energy. Passive learning really is the key here! You can achieve A LOT with passive learning, and it often isn't very tiring. Watching youtube, movie and similar things in your target language is very effective, and you can easily do it when you are tired. You have to do things differently depending on the level of proficiency in your target language, though.
I find that doing something enjoyable for immersion in each target language makes it fun. I like reading fanfics in French and watching Kdramas/reading articles in Korean. So I study grammar for 30 minutes only for each and then use immersion for the rest of my "studying time". So I don't feel that tired and overwhelmed. I also try cutting off how much content I consume in my native languages.
What type of fanfics you read ? Can you send me links/recommendations? I want to learn french and fanfics helped me with english so i want to use them with french too but bc i know there are some with bad writing i don't know for what to search/read .
I use immersion too! And it has gotten me farther than actual grammar learning. Because i actually enjoy the "learning" process, it made me learn faster and absorb more. Vlogs and interviews work the best for me (both for my korean and german) since they use daily useful phrases. But finding a hard time learning german that way since most german youtubers don't provide subtitle :( but still good for pronunciation tho
@@keziaruth9718 heyy do you have Netflix? Because there is a lot of German content on it. Or maybe try watching the German synchronisation of movies you have on DVD. Sadly I don't know TH-cam creators who use subtitles in German so I can't help with that. But if you have questions about the language: feel free to ask me. I am a native speaker. That doesn't make me perfect, but I'll try my best to explain.
It's good to know that other people feel this learning fatigue! Sometimes when learning languages, I feel siloed and like I'm never doing enough. But I'll try to be better balanced and listen to my body/mind to find my limits. Thank you for this wonderful video :)
Thank you so much for sharing!! I've been trying to learn Korean but I have this awful habit of thinking I need to clear away a big chunk of time in my day to dedicate to studying, which, I never have, so I never end up getting started in the first place. I'm going to give the 15-30-15 process a try and see what I can accomplish... also thank you so much for sharing your observations about energy levels and menstrual cycles. It's so rare to find honest conversations like this.
Thanks for the tips. Learning German alone while working has been quite difficult and exhausting for me and I just discovered this wonderful channel. I will definitely adjust my method and see how it goes.
The "learning styles" approach is akin to the "left-brain/right-brain" myth. Rejecting doesn't mean we think we don't use either half! We use all of it. :) The reason we say "learning styles" is BS is because the "studies" that supposedly support them are poor and have not been able to be replicated under proper controls. However, this doesn't mean that all learning styles should be chucked out the window. Of COURSE you should learn with kinesthetics. You should also learn with visual aids. And you should learn with audio material. And you should pepper in a little rote in for good measure. The BS of "learning styles" is the idea that each person is best suited for one learning style. The fact is that we are all human and benefit from all types of input and processing, and variety in learning is key to learning solidly and long-term.
This is fantastic! I started doing the 15-30-15 idea yesterday and I think it's going to work really well. I've also never applied the menstrual cycle stuff to language learning but it makes so much sense when you spell it out like that. Now I need to start tracking and see if I can figure out when my most productive times are!
At the beginning I have to thank you for your help You have told us about informations that we haven't noticed before like how you use the note book to find the best day for learning languages and how to separate work per day it's awesome
Thanks for another great video Lindie! I always get annoyed about productivity halfway through the day and then force myself to do an intensive language learning session, which rarely works. I've realised that this is unhelpful and often doesn't let all the info sink in. Breaking it up is a great idea. Thanks again :)
Thank you so much for speaking about how the menstrual cycle affects language learning. Sometimes the motivation is high and then your hormones just ruin the party!
As a teacher, I can attest that learning styles haven't been taken seriously in professional or research fields since the 1970s. However, it didn't stop them from exploding among the general population. Nowadays, it's become more common to say "learning preferences." For example, I really enjoy reading textbooks (even though most students do not). But that doesn't mean I'm an exclusively visual learner. So much progress in language learning involves a combination of methods. Hope this helps!
C'est très intéressant ce que tu dis sur les variations d'énergie au cours du cycle menstruel. C'est la deuxième fois cette semaine que j'entends ça et ça m'a donné envie de faire plus de recherches, merci.

Thats a beautiful language and iranians are so helpful when people want to learn their language so making friends with a few people will increase your exposure to the language. Im learning it myself and it's been a great experience especially because my native language is so different.
This was super helpful because I keep thinking that if I'm not studying a lot then it isn't worth it - I can always use a reminder that doing something is better than nothing! I keep saying "I work in tech but I'm not tech savvy" so I'm right there with you! I didn't notice any microphone issues in previous videos so not all of us are grumpy about it. 😀

Great tips and especially very true information. The part where you were talking about hormones and moods was so accurate, tracking is indeed a great tip which I should try to implement as well!
I've been trying new things all the time for language learning and it's been months, but I'm still trying new stuff and that helped me a lot. And now as a Korean learner, I'm studying with 8 books by TTMIK (1 each day for about 30 mins- 1 hour). And also I feel less exhausted and more interested in studying Korean. There was a time when I forced myself to learn Korean and now I know that it takes time. Thank you for making videos that really help language learners like us.

Hello Lindie. I don't know if I am in a sensible day, but this video really makes me think about different things in my life. Thank you for this. Have a great Sunday and week!
I had some months after University with a lot of free time, where I decided to study Japanese 5 hours a day and set some pretty crazy goals for what I had to accomplish. I reached the goals, but I retained very little of what I learned because I burned out doing this and lost the motivation to learn Japanese. Luckily that motivation came back, but now I only study 30 minutes at a time and my goals are much more time-based and realistic. Instead of having to reach some very specific goals like memorizing a certain number of kanji, I only have vague goals like study 30min a day (sometimes I have more than one 30min session every day if I feel like it). I also have a very hectic job now so even if I wanted to I wouldn't be able to study 5hours a day, but for me personally, at least, I believe I get more out of the 30min than the 5hours in the long run. When I study in 30min sessions it's fun and I'm almost always engaged and curious about what I'm studying. Thanks for a great video Lindie
Hi! I'm also learning Japanese and Im also studying for about 5 hrs too but I get pretty exhausted after that ,so I'm starting to lose motivations to study. Can you give some tips about your 30 minutes studying session?I really don't want to happen to get the point that I'll quit my learning journey . Any tips could help me . Tysm in advanced!❤️
@@chifuyungmatinosabuhay2846 I rely more on manga, books and Japanese shows now. So instead of only studying textbooks I try to read manga in Japanese and then translate what I read (I don't translate it down to the letter, just enough so I feel I understand the general meaning). For Netflix I use the chrome add-on called Learning Languages with Netflix. I really love this extension. When you use it you can hover over the Japanese subtitles and get an instant translation of the word, you can have additional subtitles below the Japanese subtitles in English and when you hover over these you can see the English translation. There are also playback functions for each sentence and you can adjust the speed. But now back to the 30 minutes. So I usually start by studying 5 new words on Memrise and then do a quick speed review afterwards (5min). After that I pick up a manga, book, textbook or Netflix show and spend the remaining 25 minutes on that. I basically just do what I feel most motivated for. I have also been spending 10min on Hello Talk recently as it is a good way for me to also try to use the Japanese I have learned. But if you can stay motivated for more than 30 minutes a day that will of course make the learning process faster, but if it ends up being a drag and something you don't look forward to then the 30 minutes (or more if you feel like it) will probably be better in the long run. That at least how I feel. Hope my answer helped :)

I want to be fluent at some point, but I also want to have fun with learning the language, so I am focusing on "slow and steady". So as disclaimer to my previous answer, if your goal is to progress to N1 quickly, then 30 minutes a day is probably not enough, but if you're in no rush and just want to enjoy the process then the 30 minutes/ whatever you feel like on the day "method" might be for you :)

This makes me feel so much better. I have only been learning Korean for a couple months now, I can see my progress, but sometimes I want to jump ahead or feel like I'm going to slow. But then I have to remind myself that it's a journey, that I will get to my goals. I'm definitely going to try the 15, 30, 15. Because an hour just hurts my brain, and I feel overwhelmed. 💜💜
Thank you for your helpful tips. Really like the tip to split up one hour. Really great idea and especially to review what you have done the previous day. Happy Weekend Lindie ☀️☀️
Hm.. I reckon it depends on peoples' "setup", because I was used to sudy in long blocks, I mean 1-2 or even 4-5 hour block for one thing, than comes the other...and so on. I had always planed out what and how much of it I was going to study/do per sessions. If I had to split my 1-2 hr daily block into more smaller blocks, I'd have got frustrated, because I knew, hadn't finished my daily "to do" yet. Besides I can much better concentrate during a longer block than more smaller, where each time you have to let sink yourself into the topic... Than after each huge block, better to do nothing related to the topic you studied and much more important to get enough sleep, because that's where and when the wonder happens. :D I only got tired, when I had other things in my mind and couldn't concentrate OR I was bored of the topic I had to study. The later was a nightmare... But all in all you're right, try out more learning types and adjust them to your needs, capacities and qualities and in my opinion do not get lost in the variety of apps, books, etc. Pick only one or max. two what suits you and stick with them. Great vid és sok sikert a magyarral! Ps. Try to write your journal entries on the language related to the given entry: ES in ES, CN in CN, HU in HU. It's a super opportunity to use what you have learnt straight away.
❤️ thank you for providing your wisdom for free! I personally can’t hear the difference in mics, but then again, listening is always a problem with me in all themes of life 🤣 I was wondering if you ever made a video on how you recommend “studying” for job interview not in your native language and/or quickly require your industry jargon once you got the job. Recently I have been seeing job ads in my target language, but I don’t feel confident yet to be able to nail an interview in it. I would love to hear your thoughts and tips on that ❤️
There is a study which says that there are ripe period within a day when people make bad decisions, have worse memory and feel the lowest. For most people it’s between 2pm and 4pm, if you wake up in the morning (5am-7am). This is natural since we can’t just work for longs hours straight and taking breaks/naps recharges your energy tank. The research also say that USUALLY you’re most productive/logical in the first hours of waking up and most creative/artistic the hours before you go to sleep. Naturally, it does depend on people how they sleep and how they function but if you want to try to find your “biological clock”, try noticing how you feel during the day.
I would offer the thought that the feeling of one's head being about to explode is (within reason)a good sign--that means one is challenging the body's homeostasis. Obviously we learn things through forms of practice and study that cause changes to take place in the body and brain, and when that happens we can feel it. The reason studying a language we already have a high level in is less exhausting is that we are no longer improving at a rapid rate. As long as it doesn't ruin your whole day, I think feeling tired after a study session is actually a really good sign.
i find i need a few days doing no language study every once and a while ...but also remember everything counts watching a film in the language it counts ...also switching skills ..if i am tired from writing i try listening ..if i am tired from listening i try speaking ..also have A GOAL that really makes you feel energized like a presentation or speaking with a friend or writing an essay or making a youtube video in your target language.

Great tips! It’s so true what you said about how study endurance relates to your level. For example my reading level in Finnish is quite good so I can read for an hour or two no problem. But with Cantonese I have to split it up more since it takes more effort for me to read. Funnily enough when it comes to speaking it’s the opposite as my Cantonese is stronger in that area.
Hi Lindie, I really like that you're learning Hungarian. :) It's unbelievable and it could be very hard... The menstrual cycle is sooo true! Thanks for your videos! 🌸
Um... I don't know what those people are talking about, but if they want to DONATE a mic then I'm sure they can. That's just boogie. And possibly nitpicking. Agree with the menstrual thing. I'm learning it's perfectly okay to rest and not push myself when I'm physical and mentally not my best. Lately I have been doing 1-2 hours for Mandarin, but some days are less than that. Depends on my mood/mental state. My biggest issue is resisting the pressure to take on a lot because I'm "not doing enough and everyone is going to pass me up." I have to tell myself these days that this is MY journey and I'm doing this because I want to; not because I'm competing with the world over who can learn XYZ language the fastest. Thanks for the great tips Lindie! 😄
FItting learning into a busy day is all about getting it in while you can (for me). I do ten minutes of spaced repitition in the morning while waiting for my kid's bus to arrive. 40minutes of listening (per day) while on the way to and back from the gym. Let's see, about ten minutes journal writing three times a week. I got my two 45min italki conversation practices twice a week. And lastly, I read books in my target language, usually on the weekend while I am waiting for my kids to do whatever they are doing. It all comes out to about an hour a day and I really hope it is helping my learning. I don't know for sure, but I keep trying and I am really enjoying all of my time spent in my target language.

I saw some creators used it and made a small team of moderators for it, to make it spam free and a safe space. Just an idea ☺ don't wanna be pushy here.
@@Anna-xi8ve I still need to learn how to use discord, do you know any good tutorial?
@@Anna-xi8ve a discord server would be awesome
Actually I am learning Deutsch but sometimes I get demotivated . But when ever I watch your videos I get immense motivation
For how long have you been doing this?^ and is it helping you well? Especially in your Korean level?
@@MalakMalak-eq2ys For around 2 months. Also writing a journal in Korean has been super useful and fun!
Language tips from Lindie?! And it’s not even my birthday :0 Can’t wait :)
Well yesterday was my birthday, but I didn’t know Lindie knew!!
Happy belated birthday!
@@LindieBotes Thank you so much.
I love the division of study time. Never thought of thatttt. Thanks lindie
aw you seem so gentle and sweet
Yes!!!! I 100% agree with you on planning around your lady cycle! When I do that it is so effective and helpful!
The reason we say "learning styles" is BS is because the "studies" that supposedly support them are poor and have not been able to be replicated under proper controls.
Your videos always bring me so much joy ❤️
Would you share more about how you plan and organise your study routine? I would LOVE to see more about that language planner. So interesting! ❤️
This is fantastic! I started doing the 15-30-15 idea yesterday and I think it's going to work really well. I've also never applied the menstrual cycle stuff to language learning but it makes so much sense when you spell it out like that. Now I need to start tracking and see if I can figure out when my most productive times are!
At the beginning I have to thank you for your help
You have told us about informations that we haven't noticed before like how you use the note book to find the best day for learning languages and how to separate
work per day it's awesome
You are my motivation every time Lindie. 너무 너무 사라해요!!!!! :) :)
I really appreciate you taking this free time out of your busy schedule to make these videos. They help so much 💕
I usually struggle more with finding motivation than time
I struggle with both...
@@braydendaley3982 it do be like that sometimes tho
Ready for these tips💛
I try to listen to something in Spanish at least a little bit everyday. This keeps me motivated to keep learning and understanding better!
I’ve been kinda in a language learning rut for the past month, so this video is exactly what I need. Thanks so much!
It's crazy to think, I also felt very tired studying English daily in the past, and I didn't know why... but today I'm used to it!
Wow vraiment? Et toi qu'est-ce que tu penses de ca? J'aimerais bien savoir plus car ca m’intéresse bcp!
I love your videos Lindie, honestly they help me so much. I don't know where I would be in my language journey right now if I didn't have them to guide me.
That's your first video I've seen and I really really like it! I've found the way you talk so calm and relaxing ♥ I'm gonna for sure watch more and improve my English learn methods.
Thats a beautiful language and iranians are so helpful when people want to learn their language so making friends with a few people will increase your exposure to the language. Im learning it myself and it's been a great experience especially because my native language is so different.
I'm a Farsi native speaker and I would really be glad to help you or answer your questions.
I’m 3 years into my Farsi study, too. I’m still so in love with it!
this was such an eye-opening video! i'm about to graduate from uni but i feel like i'm lacking quite a lot and uni doesn't provide much and i want to push further and learn a lot more. i suck at managing time so here i am trying to create a nice routine :)
Great simple little tip! I'm always struggling to fit an hour of study at the end of a day, makes sense to break it up into little bites. Can't believe i hadn't thought of that earlier, thanks!
I can not explain why I love your videos so much. You are like my language guru kkkk
Great tips and especially very true information. The part where you were talking about hormones and moods was so accurate, tracking is indeed a great tip which I should try to implement as well!
Gracias por los consejos Lindie :) Sigue adelante con los vídeos. ¡Saludos desde Australia! 🇦🇺
This was awesome!! And very insightful! I like how you are not beating up yourself but instead are going with the natural flow of your body. It is soooo very important for mental, emotional and spiritual health :) awesome advice 🥰
I made time in my busy day for this! 😅
Hi! I am a language learner myself. Your videos are really inspiring! Thank you very much
So excited!!! Also can’t wait for Lindie’s ebook to be out!! My wallet is ready 🤑💰
I have a feeling it's gonna be a very helpful one 🤓
@@DanStlAnn This will help me so much ! Thank you so much for the tips ! 😊❤️
But may I ask some questions?do u plan to take the JLPT exam ?And what level are in now?^^
@@chifuyungmatinosabuhay2846 I have been studying on and off for 2-3 years and I passed the N5 test one and a half years ago. I am not studying for JLPT, but I think I will try N3 this december (only time you can take JLPT in my country).
Thank you Lindie for all your great ideas, you are definitely helping a lot of people including me, by the way you look very pretty today
I'm currently studying for IETLS, I've been breaking up my study session around the day, at lunch at work working on my grammar or listening to new vocab while exercising at the gim, I have found my memory retention has increase exponentially.
And I'm so happy I'd found this method, I definitely don't have the time I had last year as a University student for languages but I don't want to quit doing something I love.

I loveee the timestamps! Thank you so much
Thank you for your helpful tips. Really like the tip to split up one hour. Really great idea and especially to review what you have done the previous day. Happy Weekend Lindie ☀️☀️

Great tips, thanks again Lindie. For the record, I'm no audiophile, but I think your sound quality is perfectly fine :)
Thank you very much I was kind of lost learning English, you are very inspiring! 🥺
I only got tired, when I had other things in my mind and couldn't concentrate OR I was bored of the topic I had to study.
Lindie you are awesome love your videos and I love that you acknowledge the menstrual cycle changes
the mic quality is a lot better already! thank you for the video (:
❤️ thank you for providing your wisdom for free! I personally can’t hear the difference in mics, but then again, listening is always a problem with me in all themes of life 🤣
I was wondering if you ever made a video on how you recommend “studying” for job interview not in your native language and/or quickly require your industry jargon once you got the job.
This are the tips I follow it too!!

Really like your videos!! Thank you for everything you do 😊
Hi Lindie, I really like that you're learning Hungarian.
I just realized that I practice my English while I'm listening to your videos hahaha. I really love your videos, you make me keep motivated
Thank you so much for the tips, Lindie!
Definitely trying your advices! Thanks a lot, Lindie. Espero que te encuentres increíble, saludos desde México! :D
