Just found your videos and wow! I'm loving them! My husband has been recovering from COVID/pneumonia so he was sitting next to me listening to your videos. We both agree that you have a very soothing voice and nice teaching style. Keep up the great work. Colorado, USA
This is my dream, have a kiln and doing art like this. I love glass ever since I was a child. My treasure where glass marbels from my dad and a peace of blown glass I bought on a glassmanufactor. I started engraving when I was a teen, I came back to it. Now I have a microwave kiln and I love it...but it makes hungry for more. Maybe one day I will have made my dream come true.
Hi Doni. A microwave kiln is a fantastic way to start. Might be small, but will help get you creative and think of new projects. I'll try to do more on microwave kilns.
This is my favorite thing I have made thus far - THANK YOU! I'm definitely going to check out your other videos and your Patreon - because this was SO easy to follow, and the final piece is just gorgeous!
@@RocketRoseArt I have let friends know to come check out your channel. I am do impressed at the simplicity of the design and wow factor. I will definitely be trying this one
@@karenhettenbaugh2109 Thanks Karen. I love keeping it simple. I prefer to use simple techniques that create beautiful pieces. That makes it more achievable for all of us.
I really like your videos with different techniques. Have at home to make the dish with 1408 and the white dots. Will try this dish later. Thanks for the great videos.
I made it! I can't figure out how to load a picture but I made it in black and white. It turned out great! Thanks so much for the video with the schedules. The schedules worked perfectly in my kiln.
Love this, have viewed before but intimidated by the grid pattern. I have a piece of fuchsia I've been saving. Crazy to save glass, right. Inspired to try the grid. Thanks for your great videos.
The bowl looks fantastic. Love your choice of colours. I don't think it would look half as nice without a saturated colour like the red or a cobalt blue. It really highlights the texture.
Hi Watcherinia. Yes, maybe my saying any colour is not quite right, though I suppose we all have different tastes. I did do one with a light aqua colour and while light it was quite nice. But I do prefer the richer colours.
Hi Ed. Would be great to see. Hey, I've got a poll going on the Community tab about showcasing users work. Please give me your vote on that if you have time.
Would it be possible to use dichro squares on top or bottom. Will the glass fuse to the top of dichro glass with a tac fuse. How about iridescent glass on front or back. Will glass stick to the iridescent or luminescent glass. Enjoy your videos. Thank you.
Hi Diane. I don't see a problem, as long as you don't have two dichro or iridescent sides together. Dichro on dichro won't fuse. I've tack fused dichro and iridescent glass so you shouldn't have a problem. As usual, if in doubt do a test. Hope this helps.
Well done! My favorite of your videos thus far! I wonder if the project could be made without negative spaces between the pieces, possibly with a colored or clear substrate below both layers to close the open open spaces between pieces? Could stringers or noodles be employed to create a "plaid" effect? That may be a very interesting project for you to consider. Many thanks!
Mmm! Clear would be okay, it keeps the colour popping. And a tack fuse only to keep the texture. Not sure how to do the plaid effect, though you could just lay stringers across if you have it solid underneath. Interesting!
Hi Nancy. Sorry, I normally would give inches as well. Not quite back in the swing yet. Yes, that is millimeters. The space between squares is 10 mm (approx. .4 inches) the square 30 mm (1.2 inches) and overall size 270 mm (10.6 inches). You can make the square any size, but make the gaps 1/3 on the square size. The overall is up to you. Hope this helps.
Hi Mea. All my kilns are Paragon. Mainly use a CS (Clam Shell) 16. That opens on the top and the whole body like a clam shell. Great for assembling in the kiln and for cracking open to see progress. Also use a Fusion 14 which is top opening only. Also have a SC2 but that's mainly for small work like Anns jewellery.
Hi Jeff, New to this fusing community but love your work and your teaching! I'm going to give this one a try. I don't have a kiln yet but I did find a glass studio who rents space in kilns... Can I ask questions if I have any? And do you wash your glass with borax ( comet ) before final assembly? -Dean
Hi Dean. You'll have fun with fusing. Nothing like melting the hell out of some glass. You can certainly ask questions. Love to help if I can. No, don't wash with borax. Just use a natural-based glass cleaner spray, clean teatowels, and elbow grease. A spray with the least amount of harsh chemicals. Works fine for me. Sometimes get a little devitrification (crystallised glass on the surface) but very little. Not sure what Comet is. I'm in Australia so I assume you're in USA and it's a cleaning product. Hope this helps.
Hi Jeff, I was wondering what you use to sketch your pattern on the kiln paper with? And does it effect the glass when fired? I'm trying this process with Autumn colors.....
Hi Dean. Just used a normal pencil and have never had any problem with it. I believe it's a common practice. Not so sure about things like Sharpies. Maybe run a test on that one.
@@RocketRoseArt .... a normal lead pencil it is... as long as you didn't have a issue using it I'm good... Thank you and I'll post a picture of my final piece.. Jeff? Do you have a Facebook Page?
Hi Gilbert. That's a 270 mm square Japanese plate mould. Not Chinese as I said in the video. I purchased that years ago, so not sure how much it cost. An Australian supplier here has something similar. If you're in Australia send me an email and I'll send you the supplier details. My email is on my About page.
@@RocketRoseArt my struggles are with the measuring and laying out of the pieces: are the base pieces 10mm apart? (I’m also trying to convert from metric to inches).
@@brandiklepfer5810 Yes, 10 mm apart. That's a bit under 1/2 inch. But you can make it any size you want. My approach was making each piece 3 times the gap so it overlapped each piece the same amount as the gap. So a 30 mm piece with a 10 mm gap overlapped each piece 10 mm. But you could make it 1/2 inch gap with each piece 1 1/2 inches square. If it's too big for your mould, reduce the number of columns and rows. Hope this helps.
Good idea to mark the thin fire paper. Good video thanks
Makes it a lot easier and just burns off.

I think the design makes a perfect fruit bowl, because of air flow~
