Devit is no fun, sorry that’s happening. At what point is the devit appearing? You need to make sure that your glass is clean before firing. To fix it the devit, you can sand the surface and then fire polish or add a layer of fine clear frit and full fuse.

Can you recommend a beginner kiln that will be big enough for fused glass projects like this size bowl?

Did you put clear glass over the entire project ?
Yes, an 8x8" piece of clear tekta. I mention it here th-cam.com/video/ltHvOfWAb-4/w-d-xo.html it's pretty quick so you may have missed it.
