Morning Meteorologist Ryan DePhillips has a look at the weather ahead. Low wind chills for many, especially around the northern-mountain community areas from the San Juan Mountains to the Enchanted Circle, are once again occurring, worse compared to yesterday, with near-record-low air temperatures below zero degrees for more areas in the Four Corners, while most areas to the east are in the teens above zero degrees with slightly higher humidity with flurries, but at the cost of somewhat-gusty easterly winds, while most other areas are ranging from the single digits to the low 20s. Low cold wind-chill values of below zero degrees have or are still occurring for some with it feeling as colder than -20 degrees for a few areas in the far-northern mountain valleys, but with the very dry air-mass in the next following few days, temperatures will slowly rebound temporarily with stronger westerly winds eventually returning before the next winter storm. Along with the mostly dry air, the tail-end of yesterday warmer and windier event has switched the winds to from the east-northeast for most, not as gusty as yesterday, but enough to knock air temperatures down for most, other than the slightly warmer-than-yesterday valley locations that are gustier, but that wind is making it feel colder out there. Big temperatures swings from around 25 degrees to almost 50 degrees will occur with lower afternoon temperatures for almost all locations. From the morning school commute throughout the afternoon, temperatures will mostly reach into the upper teens, 20s, 30s, and 40s from north-northeast to south-southwest from high to low elevation with calmer winds later today. Light snow with chilly sprinkle activity is possible throughout the weekend in far-northern mountain communities as today's still sharp pressure gradient between the high pressure system to the west to the cold air-mass to the east will break down to a west-southwesterly jet stream flow this weekend, eventually returning the stronger downsloping westerly winds along the east-sloped highland areas especially this weekend. However, most central-to-southern areas will be very dry as despite the slight cooldown today, temperatures will mostly be on the rise ahead as clouds will pass on through. Winter weather will then arrive by the middle of next week after a milder Monday as snow, rain, and colder air eventually will be accompanied by the occasionally gusty winds.
