What calibre was you useing ? 243?
@@jamessparrow6549 308!
@@TheDeercast if ya don’t mind me asking how high have you got it set at 100m ?
@ it’s bang on at 100m.
@ do you use the bt turrets ?
@ yes, religiously
Very informative, thank you.
@@bentaylor216 glad you enjoyed it!
A winch that fits on the tow bar is far easier provided you can get your car close enough to the deer 😂
❤
I have Leica PRS 5-30x56i and love it.
use a smaller box section that just fits inside the outer then you have a telescopic pole that will fit in you car👍
Apparently easier said than done according to the fabricators!
It’s too low as has already been said and a lot of faff for no reason. I like your enthusiasm however. Keep it up.
It copes very easily with full sized Fallow, so perhaps not as low as you think!
Been using similar on my Navara for years designed by the genius mechanic who also services my truck, which of course already has a roof rack, but my box section folds whereby much longer overhang. So simple and highly effective with no downsides. Take the carcass to the truck wherever and one can do a suspended gralloch and easy examination even in the middle of a field etc. He also installed a water spray gun in the rear which enables proper clean up in the field.
It wouldn’t be difficult to fabricate I jib that fits easily to the roof bar mountings, with a socket joint in the middle you could even gain a bit of height.
Just buy a pickup tom will ya 😂
@@Brass-and-Bullets 😂😂
Love how your whispering after taking a shot lol 🤣I’m sure they know something going on
They do, but not from where! If you're quiet they'll often settle and allow you a second shot.
As the roof rack is already on there wouldn’t it have been easier to tie the bar to the roof rack no length problem then
Nice but sorry to say it is to low, the concept is fine just you need a clip on jib out at an angle to get more height. Just find a piece of box section to go over your 50x50 have the jib welded to that and put your eye back on the end How do I know this...top of my jib is 7 feet th-cam.com/users/shortsCX67iRVrunA?feature=share th-cam.com/users/shortshNIM_FC30dc?feature=share
Thanks for the suggestion - i'm sure we'll look at this for version 2.0!
@@TheDeercast You have the main part just mock up a piece of baton and a G clamp on the side of the 50x50 box and have a piece of cardboard sandwiched in between and sharpie the angle and length then give it to the welder lol It is quite simple.
Долго целишь
No le veo sentido
Algunos usan las pieles para decoraciones o armar cosas, otros comen al animal. Sino fuera a usar el 100% del animal no lo hubiera matado.
Ты кто такой
Well ive got a 243 as a first stalking calibre and will continue using it for a while. Fancy upping to something a little heavier at some point. As reds will be occasionally possible as well as roe more often. Had one red hind so far with the 243 and it dropped fine to be fair from 225m using a 105 gr geco. But it may not be like that every time. What to go for i dont know, im after something that offers a good selection of factory ammunition without being disproportionately expensive to feed. ( I dont reload) Not after more recoil than necessary, though im not slight so not scared of a bit, but i appreciate accurate shots are more likely with less recoil. Thinking 6.5 - 308 or anything in-between. Can you recommend based on this application,? Thanks 👍
Great effort guys, really enjoyed this one.
@@WiltshireSportingShooter thank you for the positive feedback!
Nice video. Was a tiny pricket the second one. Good one to cull. Paul@testvalleyvenison
Not using his bergara? Good video lads
@@JSDeerstalking not this time! Thanks for the positive feedback!
👍
Good stuff. mid 30's dressed weight first one, the second looks a tad lighter.
I have a VX6 and prefer the mat black rather than a smooth shiny scope. Where do you hunt then?
Very nice Tom - looking for to getting out with them when mine arrives 👍🏼
Excuse me - my comment was meant for the Swarovski thermal 🙄
Aside from being able to attach to a scope what features justify the price?
@@rsf5898 full review on the way!
One thing for you to note Tom, I have a leather strap that holds x2 bullets and wraps around the forend, so you can pull it out and reload very fast with a kipplauf. You may have seen these before.
@@JSDeerstalking would you mind sharing a link Jack?
Do you think they can make any update to solve this problem?
Possibly, would be interesting to hear from someone with more technical know how than us!
I’ve just switch from barnes to yewtree as I want to support the uk. And the bc on the tipped 7mm is fantastic. From a 300 yard dope test I believe I’m in the 0.60-0.65 BC with a 130gr bullet that is smiler to the 162 eldx but at a faster speed. Only thing I’m worried about is the fragmentation. Last year because of illness and the weather I only managed to drop onto muntjac and there definitely doing more damage than the barnes. The barnes lrx are hard to beat but I’m hopping to had a winner this year and have some nice fallow in the freezer.
@@ChrisLegg-i6s keep us posted on your results!
Can you share some details with us, I.E most popular bullet by calibre. Thanks in Advance
That was a greatly informative video without any of the over complications normally encountered. Well done.

@@ChrisLegg-i6s we have! Look back through our previous videos and you’ll find a couple on the Yew Tree bullets.
@@TheDeercast nice I will thank you
I have the same rifle, but in stainless steel and standard monte carlo stock. I have had the exact same problems as you guys. This gun have cost me probably hundreds of bullets caused by inconsistent results during load development. Fantastic results one day, but after a couple of heating sycles it produced "shotgun accuracy" results, as we say in Norway. The issue was resolved with generous amounts of Locktite. The same thing with the sling swivel mounts, also resolved the same way as you. Despite it's (now resolved) issues, I just love this gun. Incredibly compact when traveling, really handy in the woods, and (finally) crazy accurate for a break action gun.
Hornady ECX were very good out of my Tikka although not a great longer range round due to the BC. Currently using the Sako which seem to be doing the job!
Not the dishwasher! The wet heat cycles do weird things to any steel edge. Just wash them.
Interesting that “terminal performance” was listed as the 4th most important factor for bullet choice
Very informative thanks for sharing.
More like £4000
Good stuff...
I think you also have or have had an Amplus also with a BDC turret. How would you compare (in practice) the merits of the different BDC turret used on the Fortis compared to that of the Amplus? I appreciate what the basic differences are but I wondered if they made any odds in real use.
@@rsf5898 we have a Fortis, Amplus and Magnus. The Amplus is great for making lots of adjustments ie on a range and is quick and easy to use and see. The Fortis is better for those making adjustments here and there and who want the comfort of being able to make sure adjustments don’t accidentally get made. Day to day both are easy and good to use.
@@TheDeercast Thanks for the reply. I had my eye on an Amplus 3-18x44 with BDC but I’d wondered if I’d be missing out on much in reality compared to the Fortis 1.8-12x42 as regards the BDC aspect.
Been doing the absolute majority of my hunting for the past 20+ years with an o/u Merkel combination gun in 20ga/7x57R. Love the one shot mentality. Just this autumn I've taken 11 fallow and 1 roe deer with that gun. Now looking to get a Merkel K5 as I never use the shotgun barrel anyway. Do I need a kipplauf? No. Do I crave one? Oh yes. Which of course is silly, because they do come at a price. Oh well.
@@Hermod_Hermit you will love it!
@@TheDeercast Just wish that Merkel would get back to me regarding both mine and my gun dealers inquiry about getting a left hand stock. So far only crickets. Quite frustrating tbh.
Excellent video. Thank you! Personally, I dont think anyone should be deer stalking until they've passed at least DSC 1. I know a couple of people on my course failed on safety. Its scary! I recommend the DSC to anyone thats serious about stalking. Thanks again for taking the time to make the video 👍🏻
@@deano6874 thank you for the feedback, always lovely to hear!
What is the rifle you have it on?
@@tomm7029 tikka T3X
With all the idiosyncrasies of using the rifle and the fact it’s a one shot deal , is this really a suitable rifle for deer culling with the lack of a quick follow up shot ? It is z fantastic looking rifle
@@dianacarroll8860 if you’re a competent shot, yes! You’ll see from some of our videos that Tom manages multiple Fallow out of large groups using his Kipplauf.
I.e., learn and apply the marksmanship principles and you will be fine!
@@duncanmcpherson2497 precisely!
I’m the glad owner of a K95. All of a rifle one needs. Plus: it’s takedown ( traveling comfort ) and you can swap calibers. Mine is in .308Win, I shoot SAKO 160grs blade leadfree and a moderator is mounted on the 50 cm barrel. It groups within 15 mm at 100m. The woodland combo. Exchange barrel is in 7x65R 60 cm long plus screw-on 3 cm titanium muzzle brake for longrange. It shots 18 mm with a leadfree 110 grs SAX KJG. This round will sufficiently do in open country and mountains till 300 meters. With a bit of training quick follow up shots are possible. Train the process of reloading till it’s „into flesh and blood“ and you can release a well placed 2 nd shot within 8 seconds. A rimmed cartridge reloads even quicker as you simply can let the fired case fall out of the chamber. Already managed to take two roe out of a bunch of four. Want to add that a sound moderator reduces recoil about two thirds on these lightweight rifles so a moderator is something to consider.
I’ve been looking at a kipplauf for the last six months wondering if I should go down this route or not…kinda seems like the rifleman’s equivalent to bow hunting in many ways.
@@jock465 you won’t regret it, they’re a huge amount of fun!
