Riva simply has to be in the top 10. 35 goals in just 42 internationals is simply awesome, even more so considering Italy's defensive playing. Comparable to Gerd Müller.
how good do we feel watching these players, knowing they love the game as much as us .... as a kid Dino Zoff was an Icon, but how can you choose between any of them really ... I cannot
Just 20? Ok: 1. Bobby Charlton 2. Kevin Keegan 3. David Beckham 4. Stanley Matthews 5. Bobby Moore 6. Wayne Rooney 7. Harry Kane 8. Gary Lineker 9. Gordon Banks 10. Peter Shilton 11. Jimi Greaves 12. Dixie Dean 13. Vivian Woodward 14. Steven Gerrard 15. Frank Lampard 16. Michael Owen 17. Paul Gascoigne 18. Alan Shearer 19. Nat Lofthouse 20. Tom Finney 21. Steve Bloomer 22. Bryan Robson 23. John Terry 24. Duncan Edwards 25. Paul Scholes 26. Billy Wright 27. Geoff Hurst 28. John Barnes 29. Jude Bellingham 30. Glenn Hoddle ...
Which is why I have Baressi at 1. He won a World Cup in 82, had Milan on top of the World in his Prime in the late 80s - early 90s. He shut down the Brazilian offense in the 94 Final when Romario was in his Prime. BUFFON WAS ALSO PAST HIS PRIME IN 2012@astanco1574
Sorry, but it's clear that the author doesn't know so much about italian football. It's quite absurd to find Gattuso. Riva deserve a better position. If you consider the past, you must find a place for Valentino Mazzola and maybe for Boniperti. Rivera doesn't deserve a so good position. And probably Nesta doesn't have to stay into the best 20 players
Roberto Baggio, the same coward who didn't want to kick the penalty in 1994 with Brazil. Ridiculous. And Paolo Rossi is in the 12th or 13th position... absurd. Paolo Rossi has to be in the first position.
@@astanco1574 Del Piero was a great player and he won a world cup. But he wasn't even close to Baggio's class. Baggio won the Ballon d'Or. He was literally the worlds best player at his peak.
@@astanco1574 Dude without injuries Baggio could have been the goat 😂 He had the same injury R9 had only he had it in the mid 80's and he was only 18 when it happened. And he still played on until he was 37 years old and was world class right to the very end.
@@astanco1574 Dude 1. It was not the same injury. Del Piero tore his cruciate ligament which kept him out for 230 days. Baggio shattered his cruciate and his meniscus and was out for 700 days. And Baggio was 18 and Del Piero was 24 and one was in 1985 and the other was in 1998 so there was more technology available to Del Piero. Del Piero's injury was nothing like Ronaldo's and Baggio's who literally had to miss years of football before they came back and there were big questions if they would even come back at all it was that bad. And anyway even if the injuries were identical your argument was "without injuries their level was similar" which doesn't make any sense unless one of them never got injured 🤦♂We never even saw a Baggio with no injuries because he was a teenager playing in Serie C when he permanently screwed up his knee.
I am delightedly surprised you chose Baggio. I agree.

Baresi shoud be higher.
The beauty of Italy was that most of the history has almost no player with more than 80 caps. Then it all got ruined.
Riva simply has to be in the top 10. 35 goals in just 42 internationals is simply awesome, even more so considering Italy's defensive playing.
