I can't place anyone above the 'Kaiser' but I would put Paul at 2. An attacking full back who could defend, an old fashioned inside forward and then a holding midfielder. And he did it all without kicking. Still brings tears to my eyes.
The greatest ever German side was the 1990 WC winners , 3 of the most naturally gifted Germans are Bernd Schuster, Steffan Effenberg & Thomas Haessler but there played around with the national team , still superb players, also Hans Peter-Briegel, Karl-Heinz Schnellinger , Uli Steilike, & Manfred Kaltz.

Thomas Müller is underrated based on his statistics. The amount of titles and scorerpoints he has is insane. Yes, he never was elegant or had incredible skills with the ball, but his strongest skill was to be in the right place at the right time - and either finish or assist for his teams.
List is accurate, Beckenbauer is miles ahead. I would put as number 2 : Beckenbauer on a bad day - and he didn’t have many bad days - he was really that good. Even on the list of all time greats of the world few could argue that he easily makes the top 5.
You should have named Andreas Moller, Thomas Haesler, Pierre Littbarski, Rudi Voller, Bonhof and Andreas Brehme. These are among Germany"s best players ever.
For me Gerd Muller & Lothar Mathaus are the greatest players to ever come out of Germany, Franz Beckenbauer for me made a greater impact as a great leader and influence, hes in my top 3 though.
It could be argued that if opponents could block one German player from the WC14 team but you as a German manager could protect one player from being blocked, in hindsight that would probably be Neuer.
A pretty good list of a Who-is-who of Bayern Munich. But not so much for reflecting _all german_ football. It is well known in Germany that especially Bavarians are taking themselves much too serious and have almost no respect for players connected more to rivals of their club or turned their back in dispute. So this is more a must-have fan list for the "big-headed" ones.
This is a pretty competent list. Philip Lahm and Guenther Netzer I wouldn’t have as high (though I would have them in the top 20), and Fritz Walter I would have much higher - at least too 5, if not too 3. The most obvious omissions are Rudi Voeller - who was as good as a striker as Klinsmann or Rummenigge - and Helmut Rahn, the fellow who shot Germany to its first World Cup title and has been sentimental favorite ever since. It is also somewhat odd to have Netzer that high and his great arrival, Wolfgang Overrath, not on the list at all. Netzer had more flair, but for most of their careers, Overrath managed to keep Netzer out of the national team.
As you mentioned - the Kaiser will forever be number 1. Rudi Völler is missing and I would rate Kroos higher than in your ranking. Also Thomas Mueller should be in the top 10. But hey - it's a great video. Thanks for that.

The top three, and in order, are pretty inevitable. No honking inclusions here, though Netzer is maybe a bit higher than he should be. Lots of great players missing out but hard to say who should be squeezed out to get any of Rahn, Kohler, Brehme, Bonhof, Effenberg, Kaltz, Podolski etc etc in.
As a German, I must disagree with Schweinsteiger being number 20 while Ballack is ahead of him. What has Ballack ever won besides National titles... Schweinsteiger on the other hand led his teams Bayern to the treble and Die Mannschaft to the WorldCup 2014 (Lahm was the captain, Schweini was the heart). Kroos also belongs up there, right behind The Kaiser, on par with Matthaeus. There is no list that will do justice to all the great German players. Schucks... it looks like Stuttgart FC and the other Bundesliega teams need to elevate their game to be more like Bayern München. Also, I really dig the groovy sound track.
Sammer overrated because of his Ballon D'or. Klose is a Top10 player for Germany - but not a Top10 German player if you go by ability. If he played in the same era as Klinsmann, Klose would be benched. Klose is a legend and I can remember so many of his goals and of course he was a great striker. But who you would leave out?
For me the only relatively easy is Overath in-Ballack out.
Very good list, no recenty bias nor a striker bias. thats actually very good
Could even argue neuer and müller were placed lower than they should
Thomas haessler was a great and skillfull little player....
Thomas Müller is so underrated
he sucked after 2014 in the National Team.
Where's Karl-Heinz Schnellinger? One of the best left-backs in the world in the 60s, rivaling Nilton Santos and Giacinto Facchetti. Of course, he and Uwe Seeler were similarly cursed. West Germany won the World Cup before them (1954), and won the World Cup after them (1974).
I fully agree.
Same applies for Helmut Haller.
3 times Italian champion
3 world cup participations
1 final champions league
Exceptional player
What a dynasty of footballing greats.
WORLD CUP, 1954, 1974, 1990, 2014
European Champs, 1972, 1980, 1996
Grew up watching the Germans smashing it, tournament after tournament.
Have nothing but respect and admiration for the greatest European Football nation in history.
DFB, are everything the FA have never been.
Without the dinosaurs at the FA, I am convinced England could have a comparable history but for years the national team were held back with no clear identity or style of play in complete contrast to the self confidence of the Germans
Paul Breitner should be the top of the list. He scored in two world cup finals (74 and 82) and he missed 1978. He retired at the age of 31 from national team.
I can't place anyone above the 'Kaiser' but I would put Paul at 2. An attacking full back who could defend, an old fashioned inside forward and then a holding midfielder. And he did it all without kicking. Still brings tears to my eyes.
Great video
I would have included Andreas Brehme.
He dominated with his left or right foot.
Great passer, strong, good under pressure.
Sammer won the CL with Borussia Dortmund in 1997, not 1996.
I think 2014 was better. 7-1 over host Brazil…sick
@@RobZwierlein Sure 2014 were in "absolute" terms, and maybe also if you take the overall development of soccer into account. Just want to mention it is very hard to compare across decades ... and 2014 came out of the 1990 generation in the form of Klinsmann's revolution, carried on by Löw & Co.
Do me a favour their goal tally decreased every game they played and they could only score a penalty against Maradona's God awful Argentina. No German team was as good as the 1970 and 1972 line-ups. And I completely agree with Udo Lattek when he said that Briegel was just a 'bundle of muscles'. Berti Vogts and Karl-Heinz Schnellinger deserve a mention.
@@Ruda-n4h a bundle of muscles ?? Yep that powered Verona to there only Serie A title while scoring 12 goals from defence when world class strikers were only getting 12-15 with exceptions of Zico, Platini, an later Van Basten , if Schuster had played in that 80s/90s German side they would have been even better , but still for me they are the greatest German side.Jurgen Kohler with Franco Baresi was the Greatest Defender in World football as stated by Van Basten, Baggio, Romario & Laudrup , he was perfection the Elite of the Elites.
Pretty good list, notable mentions that could also have made the list for me are:
Bernd Schuster
Andreas Brehme
Rudi Völler
Jürgen Kohler
Wolfgang Overath
Toni Schumacher
Manfred Kaltz
Helmut Rahn
Karl-Heinz Schnellinger
Uli Stielike
Pierre Littbarski
Franz Beckenbauer, Gerd Müller, Karl Heinz Rummenigge, Lothard Matheaus, Fritz Walter, Uwe Seeler, Sepp Maier,
I would add, in my memory, - Wolwgang Overath, Manfred Kaltz, Harald Schumacher GK, and Pierre Littbarski 😁✋
The Emperor Franz Beckenbauer 👑
Thomas Müller is underrated based on his statistics. The amount of titles and scorerpoints he has is insane. Yes, he never was elegant or had incredible skills with the ball, but his strongest skill was to be in the right place at the right time - and either finish or assist for his teams.
he didnt score at the EC2016, WC2018, EC2021, WC 2022, WC2024.
Lothar Matthaus is the most complete football player ever !
List is accurate, Beckenbauer is miles ahead. I would put as number 2 : Beckenbauer on a bad day - and he didn’t have many bad days - he was really that good. Even on the list of all time greats of the world few could argue that he easily makes the top 5.
Neuer and Kroos too low, Lahm and Netzer too high
Yeeees :)
Kroos overrated, lahm and netzer better
Lahm not too low, he is top3 fullback of all-time. Him and Manu changing places though would have been ok for me.
The order is wrong though.
In no list can klinsmann be higher than thomas müller.
New subscriber keeo it up mate
Jürgen Klinsmann played for VfB Stuttgart
Ozil is best ❤❤
IMO Breitners biggest asset is his attitude beside the pitch still up today.
Neuer must be top 5
It could be argued that if opponents could block one German player from the WC14 team but you as a German manager could protect one player from being blocked, in hindsight that would probably be Neuer.
Neuer should be 5th or 4th. Lahm 5th would be ok.
Maximilian morlock and Rudi völler left the chat
Neuer should be much higher
Phillip Lahm and Jürgen Klinsmann also played for VfB Stuttgart in Bundesliga.
Lahm spent two seasons on loan at Stuttgart
A pretty good list of a Who-is-who of Bayern Munich. But not so much for reflecting _all german_ football. It is well known in Germany that especially Bavarians are taking themselves much too serious and have almost no respect for players connected more to rivals of their club or turned their back in dispute. So this is more a must-have fan list for the "big-headed" ones.
Top 3 is of course Kaizer Gerd and Matthaus
franz beckenbauer completed football like messi at the age of 28... first one to do so
@@freezonebambos942Beckenbaur is way better than Messi
@@A49144-r i agree
(Top 3, not too 3. Bloody auto-correct)
I believe that Kaiser Franz MHRIP) is irreplaceable. "King Of German football" he really is.
We football fans will definitely miss him.
Helmut Haller and Karl-Heinz Schnellinger should have been included among the best.
13:36 that free kick was rare
Insane.
As you mentioned - the Kaiser will forever be number 1. Rudi Völler is missing and I would rate Kroos higher than in your ranking. Also Thomas Mueller should be in the top 10. But hey - it's a great video. Thanks for that.
Lahm didn't play his whole career in Munich. He played two years in Stuttgart as a loan.
Gute Liste
Philip Lahm did NOT play his whole career at Bayern, he went on loan to VfB Stuttgart at the start of his career for almost two years
Michael ballack is an unrepeatable legend
Gerd Mueller should be more appreciated, he is on a level with legends
You get something wrong
Whoever is within the top 10 of alltime German footballers is a legend
@@dieterneudeck8726 yeah true but I mean like top 3 of all time is he
@@larryabcde He is 2nd in this list, no way should he be first, as der Kaiser is clearly the best German player of all-time.
@@peterhammer6915 I wouldnt say so
@@larryabcde I have seen both play live in 1970. Both great players but Beckenbauer has that flair, that is unsurpassed.
Andreas Brehme is missing here one of the defenders (especially considering attacking ability) of all time.
Podolski cant go this list
As a German, I must disagree with Schweinsteiger being number 20 while Ballack is ahead of him. What has Ballack ever won besides National titles... Schweinsteiger on the other hand led his teams Bayern to the treble and Die Mannschaft to the WorldCup 2014 (Lahm was the captain, Schweini was the heart). Kroos also belongs up there, right behind The Kaiser, on par with Matthaeus. There is no list that will do justice to all the great German players. But no list can do justice that ranks Ballack higher than Schweinsteiger and Kroos not in the top 5...
please, never say 'die Mannschaft' again...
1. Franz Beckenbauer
2. Gerd Muller
3. Lothar Matthaeus
4. Manuel Neuer
5. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge
6. Jurgen Klinsmann
7. Oliver Kahn
8. Sepp Maier
9. Miroslav Klose
10. Uwe Seeler
11. Fritz Walter
12. Bernd Schuster
13. Toni Kroos
14. Michael Ballack
15. Paul Breitner

50. Jens Lehmann
...
As a german, i agree with your list nearly almost.
Schucks... it looks like Stuttgart FC and the other Bundesliega teams need to elevate their game to be more like Bayern München.
But putting him in front of Kroos, Klinsmann, Walter etc. feels like putting Olivier Giroud over Michel Platini and Zinedine Zidane just because he scored more goals for France.
No place for Andy Brehme ?
Kroos after Sammer? Did you ever Watch the Game? For me 1-5 Place is Gerd Müller, Rudi Völler, Toni kroos, Manuel neuer and t. Müller
S.O to legend Titan
The question is where is the name of Helmut Rahn, the goal scorer in the 1954 World Cup final?
Netzer is Extremely underrated
Germany talent pool is insane can legit make 3 teams full of world class players
Dont forget VfB stuttgart back in the day and since this year again a top german club
In fact Platini , Zico , Maradona and Rumennige ruled the 80's ....very weird list .
I miss Haller and Overath
Excellent list, but i disagree with the rankings. The order is off in many cases
How did he not make it the best "22" it would have been perfect
Wolfgang Overath?
Rummenige has to be higher for sure top 7or8
For sure Top 3-2
His prime crazy.. Unstoppable player
🙂Bisher von der Deutschen Profifußballhistorie nach den Talenten berücksichtigend: 1. Erich Gottschalk; 2. Franz Beckenbauer; 3. Jan-Niklas Beste; 4. Klaus Augenthaler; 5. August Gottschalk; 6. Mario Götze; 7. Julian Brandt ! 👍 (Ich schätze Es momentan Es ein.) Es ist nur meine persönliche Einschätzung.
Once he's retired, Thomas Muller should be ranked within the top 10.
He did not score a single goal in 1 WC tournament.
Good player, but no elite
Rummenigge is totally underrated in this video.... And you don't mention Overath or Völler.
Klose over Kroos is wild.
Thomas Müller is way too low
easily top 10
some players who should be there too:
-Jürgen Kohler (top 10 CBs of all time)
-Bernd Schuster (Pep's idol)
-Andreas Brehme (goalscorer in the world cup final)
You cant mention kroos without saying his passing being one of the best of all time
Thomas Müller gave the second most assists in football history!!!
I think u should hava atleast say that.
Where is Klaus Fischer ???
Two goals against France in Seville 1982,unfortunately one incorrectly was not given
Bestenfalls auf Position 25 eher 30.
Argentina video please
Beckenbauer and Müller is no debate, but Kroos needs be at least 3 or 4, he won 6 CL titles.
LOL😂😂😂
Some missing clubs for players like Lahm and Kroos.
I agree on the top4 though one might argue Neuer being 4th and Lahm 5th. Seeler was a fantastic player but a little too high in the list imho. Even if I would like to see Basti and Ballack a little higher, it's hard to see whom they could have surpassed on that list. And Netzer is definitely too high, his National team career wasn't that great given his talents.
