The first time I heard this song I said to myself: "Wow!! This is their best song that they ever did." Years later I still feel that way. I also saw an interview where they were asked what they thought their best song was and they replied: ORDINARY WORLD. It only took one listen for me to love this song. Especially when I heard the guitar solos and the vocals at the end of the song.
@@MrsPenPal I enjoy your reactions because I feel that you really speak from the heart, as well. I saw Duran Duran live years ago and couldn't wait for them to perform Ordinary World. Two other songs that I really love by them are A VIEW TO A KILL and IS THERE SOMETHING I SHOULD KNOW. I would recommend reacting to those songs in the future.
This song isn’t a break up song, it’s about losing one of his best friends. When I first heard this I assumed it was about a breakup, but when I found out it’s actually about the loss of his best friend… such a beautiful song
Yeah this one caught all us old timers off-guard. A decade after the early 80s "Rio" and their "boy band" years, no one expected this immortal, sumptuous rock song from a band us 80s "cool kids" didn't dare admit that we had ever liked (but many of us secretly did).
That's true I remember I was about 16 when this came out early 90's I was used to the 80's stuff if I heard Duran Duran Heard this in Miami in a hard time and was like damn maybe we do have hope in good music still

With you 100% on this one. I was originally a modest fan of this band. When this song came out I was blown away. The melody, the injections of acoustic guitar paired with lyrics like “left me in the vacuum of my heart” “I will learn to survive” “I don’t cry for yesterday, there’s an ordinary world somehow I have to find”. Perfection!
...awesome song - awesome reaction, dear MrsPenPal 💖 To me its always like a pre-Christmas mood (it was all over the radio at that time) - sad and celebratory at the same time... bitter-sweet... so, this is the same perfect time again, only a few weeks left to the festive days and year's end... and: where's the ordinary world gone? Did we loose it recently? I also can't find it anymore... Let me finish on an exciting note: the opposite of 'ordinary' is 'magical' 💫🧑🎄🌟
I love a girl that will OVER replay the music on a reaction because She's genuine. Balance you will find someday. But for now, hunger for like we did, when we 1st heard it! Thanks for the time machine. God bless. Peace & Strength
This song is part of a Trilogy of songs that were written in response the the death of a friend of several band members. Simon LeBon (vocalist and lyricist) was particularly close to him. This is the second song in the trilogy. The first is called Do You believe In Shame and the last one is called Out of My Mind. They are all great, but this one is by far the most well known. I would recommend giving the other two a listen. Also Rio, Save a Prayer, Notorious...I could go on and on and you will probably wonder how all of those songs are the same band. They are VERY diverse.
The best way to describe this song is: complete. Nothing is left unresolved (besides maybe the lyrics). I remember first time hearing it and could not help myself, I mentioned it to at least three other people. It is so unique and insanely good.
Another great reaction MrsPenPal..👍👍.Duran Duran..he has had several hits in his career before, but this is a masterpiece..Timeless in its sound and lyrics..Simon LeBon showing all his vocal quality...tremendous epic
British band Duran Duran were huge in the United States 🇺🇸 and UK in the 1980s,with songs like,HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF, SAVE A PRAYER, THE REFLEX, and the Bond theme tune A VIEW TO KILL which topped the charts , there videos were heavily rotated on MTV,The band won two Grammys in 1984 and Princess Diana was a huge fan, Duran Duran were inducted into the Rock Roll Hall of Fame in 2022,they have sold over 100 million records, they had 21 top 40 singles in the US Billboard top 100,another amazing British band , great reaction thanks 🙏
Simon Le Bon wrote this and a few others after the death of a good friend of his who died of an overdose. My favorite song (and video) of DD is "The Chauffeur". Also the extended(!) video "Girl panic!" with famous models as members of the group is great and funny. I like DD from the beginning when it was a New Romantic (80's genre of this music) group. I think their best album is "Rio".🤔
😊 this song helps me get back my esteem after a breakup. Love Love LOVE the lyrics. I was in my 20's when Duran Duran was touring. Girl, we would pack the dance floor when the DJ played The Reflex
I saw someone else mention the reason for the song (death of Simon's best friend, there's also 2 others but not as good); believe the reason ppl don't feel saddened by this is bc the melody & lyrics are written to uplift you to the Acceptance part of grief.(if that makes sense) Simon (singer) almost always layers his vocals, including the harmonies when recording the studio versions. So when they go live either/both another band member &/or back-up singers will sing whichever part he's not doing. I'm so glad to enjoy the song with you. I'll try to think of a song not usually requested as often to reactors in general, given DD luvs switching things up. Take care & thanx for sharing!
I have a friend who is a professional female singer with a big voice and she says this is a very hard song to sing and maintain the melody. There are so many subtle inflections and if you miss one it throws everything off, she says. I believe he is duetting with himself to different takes and mixed to a harmony. I believe the producer said he couldn't believe how good Simon sounded harmonizing with himself.
Hello Blessings! Actually this song was about the singer Simon dealing with the death of close friend. Love Duran Duran. Checkout "Save A Prayer", "Rio" & "Nororius". Thanks.😊❤
Hands down, my favorite Duran Duran song. I love the last verse. Simon LeBon was so gorgeous with that beautiful voice. I'm pretty sure that is Simon doubling himself.

This is my favorite song of all time! I know this song is about losing someone but it wasn’t the way I took the lyrics at the time. I was 19 years old driving to the beach. I lost my job. If you want to her Simon hit the really, really high notes, listen to the long run version of Wild Boys. I ruined my sound box trying to sing that when I'd just had laryngitis. I didn't know it, but I still had polyps on my vocal chords, and it damaged them badly. I could hit those highs , tough to do, but I could hit them in my teens. After that, all I can sing is low register stuff. Simon has a tremendous voice. Really though, with DD, you need to go back to Planet Earth, Rio , Save a Prayer, Please Please Tell Me Now (Is there Something I Should Know ?), move from there to the Seven and the Ragged Tiger album. They reinvented themselves with every album, although, my personal favorite is Seven and the Ragged Tiger, with tunes like Union of the Snake, The Reflex, and so many more. Underrated? they were on of the top bands in the 80s with 100 million sold records. I guess you had to be there in the 80s to know. They were not at all underrated. And they were and is not a rock band. They started out as a New Romatics/New Wave band and is at best now a pop band.
