    I’ve had reef tanks on and off for the last five years or so (haven’t had any for the last two) and after watching this series today, I went out and set up another nano tank. Thanks for the great series. Perfect timing, just got finished setting the tank up and you dropped this video.
    Thank you for the inspiration. Keep up the great work!

    My first reef tank was a 2g. I had that going for more than half the year with great success, only took it down because I moved to a 4g, took that down because I wanted a larger tank, now at an 8g...can we see the pattern here? A small tank is fine for new reefers if they do the research and go slow.

    LOVING the 10G Moki it looks pretty cool. I noticed that you have a lot of tools and foods and stuff around some of the tanks. If you haven't realized by now the baby will actually be growing up with your tanks and if its anything like my 3 boys they LOVE hanging out near the tank. They ALSO like to try and "help". You might want to look into some simple cabinets or something that you can baby proof over the next year while your little munchkin learns to crawl, walk, and put things in its mouth lol. I am SUPER SUPER clean with my TOOLS especially because of coral toxins etc.

    my favorite zoa happens to be my bright yellow scrambled eggs. they are super bright yellow with a light blue center. they did take months to start growing though. also i have never had ANY luck with Ricordia Floridas, they all floated away never to be seen again. i recommend Yumas especially because they come in more crazy color morphs. i got 1 for 5 Canadian pesos on a rock covered with algae and so far it has given me 3 babies.

      For coral dry food I use PolypLab’s ReefRoids; sometimes I mix in Reef Chili and Coral Frenzy for variety. For Flake I feed Prime Reef Flake; for frozen I feed LRS Reef Frenzy; for liquid I feed the whole line of Reef Nutrition products. If I were to just start off, I would grab a can of Prime Reef Flake and a small bottle of Reef Roids 👍

I was going to get frogspawn but after this I dont think I will! Just to much. What are the mushrooms that grow tall and have a cap at the top. I thoght it was frogspawn but appears to just get bushy and dont see the stalk.

    What about getting a rock flower anemone? They don't move much, or so I have heard. The Ultra ones can be super colorful. In fact, here are two links to some being sold on WWC:
    worldwidecorals.com/collections/anemones/products/ultra-red-neon-striped-flower-anemone-2612
    worldwidecorals.com/collections/anemones/products/ultra-orange-flower-anemone-2611
    Otherwise, I would suggest maybe getting something like an interstellar mushroom, especially if you want something red or orange in coloration.

      Thanks for the recommendations! I have been keeping an eye out locally for some colorful ones, will continue to look!

    • @el_guapo1318

      @@InappropriateReefer Yeah I considered getting one of the Rock Flowers for my 16 gallon (especially since I have $50 in reward points right now), but it would require me to move around some corals that I just placed down. Including my Alien Eye Chalice (that I received from WWC as a free frag due to an order going wrong). And he is the main issue, as I don't want him going on a murderous rampage towards my other corals, or to an anemone. Although it is starting to look like I might need to move two of my mushrooms anyway, so maybe I will get one someday soon.
      On a somewhat related note (to your budget build), how strong is the flow of the AC70 in its lowest setting in the 10 gallon? I am trying to figure out what filter to get for my ten gallon, as I will probably need to set it up soon as a ..drum roll....Upside Down Jellyfish Tank!!! Thus my conundrum, as I need a filter that does not have too strong a flow as Cassiopea do not like very strong flow. So before I pull the trigger on an AC70, I would like to get some opinions on the strength of the flow at its lowest setting.

    I'm currently starting up a 29-gallon tank. I noticed on your aqua clear you removed the foam filters and filter floss. Do you need to run these? or are the bacteria, chaeto, and gfo a better substitute? I got a cheap aqeon filter and have a 1 gal. hob filter but it would be awesome to combine the two if possible to limit the clutter.

    Hey! I’m hopping you can help me! I’ve been a long time follower and my IM Fusion 20 and it’s actually about 4 years old. But, unfortunately, Over the recent years things have gotten run down. A bit of different pests, all my fish have died due to a pistol shrimp, and there’s not much else going on. A few coral pieces but not much. I’m considering a complete restart - and getting rid of the pistol shrimp for good. Starting fresh, new clean scape, and focusing on a coral theme euphyllia only pretty much! What’s your thoughts? Any feedback or suggestions?

    You should be wary of PolypLab One as it is not a balanced solution like 2 Part dosing. In every liter, there are about 70,000 mg/l Calcium and 4000 meq/l Alkalinity, which is not balanced. You would need about 80,000 mg/l of Calcium in order to be balanced with 4000 meq/l Alkalinity. The reason why this product is not balanced is because PolypLab added Hydroxide Salts (NaOH) to the solution in order to combat the excess CO2 after acetate is metabolized. However, when OH reacts with CO2, it becomes bicarbonate. Which means you have higher ratio of Alk. than Calcium. I have heard people doing PolypLab One and have only have Alk. rise.

    • @InappropriateReefer
      @InappropriateReefer  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wonder why PolyLab would do that, but thank you very much for this information, this is very important to know

      @@InappropriateReefer Probably lack of understanding reef chemistry. Using Calcium Acetate (which is what their product is mainly composed of), you get a byproduct of CO2, which brings pH down. Adding Hydroxide Salts would combat this as Hydroxide reacts with CO2 to form Bicarbonate, but that would shift the balance of the solution. Probably the reason why you have to shake the bottle often to dissolve the precipitates that forms over time.
      Tropic Marin has a Calcium Acetate product called CarboCalcium or All For Reef, but it is a balanced solution. Still they are very expensive options in the long run. As of now, I'm trying to make my own solution where it is simple and low cost, yet effective. Maybe even start a business one day lol.
      Have you been experiencing only Alk. rising using One? I have heard many people telling me this.

    Hey Inappropriate Reefer. Loving how this tank is looking. i was looking into buying that Coral Box Single Channel Dosing Pump so i could start dosing a little. Being in Australia certain things are harder to get like the ALL-FOR-REEF. Is their any other similar products you are aware of that i could substitute the ALL-FOR-REEF for.

    How does the ato work with the plastic trim on top of the tank? I purchased a similar one to the one you use here but without cutting the plastic trim on top the water level remains about an inch under the top trim

    • @InappropriateReefer
      @InappropriateReefer  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine also sits about an inch under the trim (you can just see the water line under the trim); the smart ato micro sensor was able to tuck neatly away under the aquaclear 70’s plastic rim and under the tank trim. Hope this helps

    Would you recommend the Fluval nano sea LED light for a 10g? I'm not able to buy anything online at the moment and this is the only nano light available at my LFS's. It's a bit more expensive than the aquaknight and there's not a whole lot of reviews for it compared to the Aquaknight.

      GFO to knock down any large diatom issue in the 10g; beefy refugium in the 45g tank to keep excess nutrient / Phosphate in check!

    Can you do a video on how you dose the all for reef? I need to start dosing soon and I’m thinking about using it and it’s really confusing to me.

    • @InappropriateReefer
      @InappropriateReefer  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure thing; I typically use the BRS 2 parts (or something else that I could dose for Alk or Ca separately) to get the Alk and Ca to desired level first; and then maintain with All for Reef since it’s supposed to be balanced amount of All and Ca; I should do an actually video on this, it’s actually not bad! Check out BRStv, they did a few videos on the BRS 2 Parts; it’s the same concept except All for Reef is just one part
