    Whole corn works like a charm on carp and catfish - my buddies and I used to use this long ago and would catch tons of fish with this technique. Only thing is that your throw a whole can of corn out at near sunset and come back at the next sunrise and start reeling them in using a single piece of corn on the bottom on a number 6 or 8 hook with 12lb test line - I liked the number 8 hook the best - yeah! really does work well

    This was a great video, to help people get started carp fishing. When I was a kid I'd fish for what ever I could catch and occasionally that would be a carp. As an adult I target fish for specific species and each has its own skill set and practices. As I watch this video I just had a small carp fishing session in a small creek behind my job, this year was the first time I saw carp in the creek and I made it a mission to target fish them. One point this video brings up and most people who only fish fresh water over look often is chumming the water. In the UK they call it spoding and theyve invented several methods and specialized pieces of equipment to basically drop chum into the water. Best advice I can give and it is what landed me two 30+ lbs carp today is, observe the water look for the fish chum and chum again I take hand fulls of corn and toss them into the water until I see the carp move to a area I want them, then I toss more corn to keep them actively eating and in that area this also makes them used to disturbances in the water so when you toss your hook and line in they assume it's just more corn falling into the water and don't spook. After I set my line in the water I continue to throw more corn into the water around my line, and when I'm done I throw any left over bait I don't need into the water.
    This practice keeps the fish coming back and used to being feed, it also prevents them from leaving the area after fishing pressure is added.
    And the last thing to add is be a good fisherman, take care of your catches ensure you don't cause excess stress or harm to the fish, take a moment to admire your cagtch but then get that fish back into the water and give it a moment to recoup before you release it. Carp are tough fish but they are big and can get hurt during a fight or landing so take care of the cagtch so these fish can continue growing big an beautiful for the next fisherman

    The biggest aspect of carp fishing is swim location . Bait is rather less important to finding fish on the feed. The trick to catching more bigger carp is simply feed them more than you fish for them. Show up the same spot 4 times a week and give them a few cans of corn . They will clear the swim of debri and begin to return here more often. Build your swim first then enjoy trying to keep others away from it .

    • @BitesandStrikesFishing
      @BitesandStrikesFishing  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Absolutely. Prebaiting the spot is a fantastic way to keep fish in the area. Especially in lakes and ponds. I’ve recommended the technique in several videos. Tossing out feed the morning of your trip can also help a little if you didn’t have the ability earlier

    • @BitesandStrikesFishing
      @BitesandStrikesFishing  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wardydoneuagain I feel the same way. I love watching a European fishing videos. Seeing all the techniques and gear. Lots of the reels I see are not sold in the US. Like the FOX brand, and some brands make reels specifically sold for European carp fishing.
      Lots of us do stick our rods straight up, but I think that’s mostly because it’s common practice to not use rod holders. Just find a stick shaped like a Y and use that. And bait runners are just now slowly catching on here, so having the rod jammed in the ground allows the rod to bend and not get pulled in the water

      I would say they are too big, unless you have large carp in your area. I prefer j-hooks as well because of the difference in lips from catfish, but I’ve seen people use circle hooks.
      My typical hook size is size 4 or 6. Carp can be finicky so the smaller hook allows it to get in the small mouths undetected

    • @BitesandStrikesFishing
      @BitesandStrikesFishing  ปีที่แล้ว

      Fast current makes it hard. With moving water the carp will be moving as well. Look for slack water or eddies. Toss close to the bank where the current will be lighter. If that doesn’t help you’ll need to wait till the water slows down… or find a new spot.

      10 pound will work, if you are targeting 30lb plus weight I’d go up to 50lb line.
      Clips and hooks tear the lips and the gills. They are delicate fish. Best option is to weigh them in a net or bag

    Unless you plan on eating the carp you catch, to me, catching carp is similar to playing golf.
    In the game of golf, you hit the ball and then go to where it landed after you've hit it and then hit it again.
    With carp, you catch them and then you release them. You catch another one and then you release it. You hope you catch some more so you can release them too.
    I guess I'm old school. When we go fishing, we do it with the intent of eating what we catch.
