I own the Darksoft cart as well, and I've discovered that the random issues with the sound crackling, language changing, graphic glitching and difficulty settings changing is largely caused by the SoftDIPS being scrambled every time the game is swapped. If you hold down A+B+C as the game boots to go into the UniBIOS and reset the SoftDIPS to defaults, it resolves the issues. You can also hit Start + Select to bring up the UniBIOS menu and Soft Reset to get another chance at resetting the SoftDIPS if you forget to hold the keys as the game boots. I've let Darksoft know and hopefully he'll address it in the next firmware update.
Hey mate, how about testing the loading time for the biggest rom KOF2003? Wondering how this will work out. Also did you hear anything from Darksoft about coming bugfixes? I was waiting over a year for their release but I got bored since the postponed the release several times. So here I am. Waiting for a 100% fast loading Flashcart. I don't care if it's Darksoft or Terraonion. I just want to have the best possible bang for the buck. Cheers
I know a lot of flash carts have fpga's so simulate special chips and other stuff but what I'm wondering is that one sounds like the same one as in the Analogue systems and MISTer. What I'm wondering is if the cart is effectively running all the games itself and just pass through A/V and controls to the actual console like a super gameboy. Basically an fpga clone you plug into your real console. So many glitches could be because the neo geo core on the fpga isn't finished yet. That would certainly explain the price.
The cartridge slot does not have the circuitry to move direct game play data through the pins. Unless the cart itself has AV out then everything is still played on the console hardware itself.
I completely dig this review...I could never afford a Neo Geo along with a flash cartridge, but just watching the joy on my man's face using this thing to play his favorite arcade games just kicks me right in the giggledick, and makes me want a Neo Geo terribly bad. I still remember when the Neo Geo Pocket was released and was so excited to go out and purchase it only to realize that it was a glorified Game Boy Color, and the included Sonic pack-in game basically could be beaten in about 20 minutes tops - huge bummer. I'm glad I joined the FB group so that I can get notifications of these videos because MLP reviews the same stuff that I'm in to and I just enjoy watching the channel. Cheers guys.
@@WildVoltorb I love it too...I just wish it had more games released for it back when it was still in production. The console itself was quite ergonomic and didn't use up the same battery power that other consoles did on regular batteries. I would have loved to have seen carts that stored more data and that had longer games than at least the Sonic the Hedgehog pack-in it came with.
Holy Sheet Batman! I understand it's definitely the best deal instead of trying to buy the real carts, but damn lol. $250 Max and I'll look into it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I wish it were that simple, but the Neo Geo flash cartridge has essentially a full ARM computer inside of it just to be able to emulate all of the ROMs that MLP has in his collection. It's more like the company took something similar to a Raspberry Pi and customized it to the point that it was almost flat and programmed it specifically for FPGA commands that the Neo Geo can accept and then create the memory modules that can hold up to three games at once even though you still have to choose from a library of ROMs that you want to play. When you copy a ROM from a file into a memory module these games are so big that it takes a good 30 seconds to a minute or so to fully copy the game into memory and there aren't any flash cartridges out on the market like this that can accomplish such a feat. Games that are approaching a gigabit in size are already hard to emulate on the console itself, so the ARM processor inside of the flash cart takes over and helps out speed-wise to make sure you have the best experience using their flash cartridge. Even a Neo Geo flash cartridge on it's own is a feat of it's own considering just how many different arcade machines there are, different arcade hardware setups, and so forth that have to be emulated as well. These guys so far have done an amazing job making their flash cartridge as complex as it can be for such a high-powered system.
@@CAPCOM784 if Your first release of a flash cartridge came without any errors and you coded and built everything by yourself and the only issue you had was some small sound issues and such, one should be so lucky. It's not a huge team that designs these flash cartridges but just one person (or possibly 2-3 I don't know that much). I think their first release judging from MLP's experience looked to be a wild success, and the next flash update for the cartridge should straighten out all of those bugs and have a near perfect product created by less than a handful of people. I do get where you're coming from though brother, because if I dropped that kind of cash too I would just about demand pure satisfaction so I understand your logic...I'm just trying to look at it from the stance of only a very small number of people got together to build this flash cartridge and with all of the hardware inside the flash cartridge their 1st release has been a wild success and after an update or two should perform near perfectly and be a truly remarkable device.
@@bmurphr1 Pretty cool information. I was wondering why have to switch around anyways. I didn't expect the flash cart to work any different than any before it and just have more room to hold the bigger games. I'll definitely look more into it. Thanks.
What's the difference between the way this $500 cart is made versus one of the 161 in 1 multicarts being sold on aliexpress for around $150? As far as I know, they are probably made in the same way, yes? Is it just as simple as "one comes from China and is junk and this one comes from a reputable dealer"?
I've had the NeoSD MVS cart since it came out and never had the kind of problems this cart does. Looks like they should have done more testing before releasing it.
