Paint job on point 🤌. Will be building up that frame for a friend of mine as his first road bike as well. Think this might be the perfect frame to get hooked into the sport without spending top 💰

I'm definitely thinking about switching back to 52 chainring. I've been on 54 and 56 on my other two bikes. I run a 28t as well.
Yeah depends on your cadence and riding style. Some folks are grinders, while others are high RPM spinners.

I had a creak on the VBR168 which I found to be the retaining screw for the rear drop-out cap coming loose (which the mech hanger attaches). Remove, add thread-locker. Tighten. Done.
I torqued the seatpost clamp a little bit more. Problem solved 👍🏾

Yeah, Chicago isn't as bad as they make it to be. I ride through some of the worst neighborhoods! I rode through Englewood, Harvey, and Riverdale on Saturday. I had absolutely no problem.

@@ClaviculaNotoria it is suitable for a $500 frame. Nothing more or less. Visually it’s fine and inoffensive. Durability however needs to be measured in the long term.

I remember you have a saddle height of around 77.5-78 cm. How much headroom do you have with this seatpost/frame to raise the saddle? What is the approx max saddle height?
Not sure the max, that’s a question for VeloBuild. But I’d say probably 3-4cm of clearance remaining.
Yo Patty did you use the bearings and compression headset rings that came with te bike? Or did you replace them?

Wanted to ask if it's possible to swap out the drop bars for something shorter, like from aliexpress? The base is just round or does it have a flared design on the headset cover like specialized? Thanks
The headtube and bearings are just standard 1.5. You can use any handlebars
I built the vb r 268 a month ago and use the standard handlebar. The headset cover and spacers are not round. They have a cut off drop shape. Looks good and aero to me. My complaint about the handlebar is the lack of room for the cabels that run outside underneath the stem area. The bend is almost to tight for mechanical setups. But I am running full mechanical never the less. Building it was very difficult though.
So if you had to choose the budget king would it be the Velobuild VB-R-218 or the Yishun R086-D? Would love to see a comparison. Thanks.
The R086-D is the better frame no question because. This is expected because Yishun is an OEM supplier and have their own factory/production/testing. Both in fit and finish and also in riding dynamics. The R086-D also is 50-60% more in price than the VB-268 which may be a deal breaker for some customers. And Yishun doesn't really offer custom paint because they are setup more as an brand supplier than direct to consumer. Regardless, the R086D is still king and I don't expect the 268 to top it.

When the caliper mount is not well faced, do you have to face it or can it still be aligned? I've heard the facing tool is very expensive.
Of all the sub-$1000 frames I've tested, only one frame (Yishun R086D) was faced well with no issues. Thankfully none of the other frames were bad enough that I wasn't able to eventually align the calipers. Including this VB 268. Just took a little patience and the right tools.
Agree with Patty. A little patience goes a long way. My VBR168 took all of 30 mins to align the calipers.

Hey Patrick, i really like youre reviews. I just orderd the 268 but i better could orderd the Yusin? The only thing i dont get you say the Yusin is twice the price? But the 268 is only 500usd and the yusin is 750usd ?! Thats not twice as much right😅
I don't think Yishun is offering that frame for $750 anymore. It's going to cost closer to $900-$950 now after shipping.
Yeah i have a little remorse that i didnt saw the yusin video early. LOL my 268 is coming in next few weeks. But its oke for know. 😅

It's from an old Dengu build couple of years ago. 120mm stem and 40cm width. But the reach is 84cm which makes the overall effective reach (plus the way the stem is measured) of the handlebars feel more like a 130 or 135mm stem.

wich should you choose, shimano or sram?
For a full 2x groupset overall I prefer Shimano Ultegra Di2. But Shimano is expensive. SRAM Force eTap D1 on the other hand, especially 1x, is both lighter and can regularly be found with steep discounts. And I prefer the lever ergonomics of SRAM. If I only had one bike for literally everything...I'd take Shimano.

It was the seatpost clamp. Torqued it a couple more NM and we are creak free.
