Actually had a go with this yesterday. When catachans are able to take down assault intercessors as they have orders, plus a preacher and a engineer in support - it's pretty good.
If you want the tech priest to really go nuts have a cyclops demolition vehicle explode within 12 inches of him since it counts as a destroyed vehicle.

I have been messing around with combat guard and I think a combo of rough riders and ogryn do pretty well. Ogryn are nice (and especially cheap with the recent point drop) line infantry who don't care overlymuch about whether they get locked in combat or not and rough riders do ridiculous amounts of damage. For example an average of 75 attacks hitting on 2's and wounding on 2's if they charge a 20 man T3 unit (ie guard equivalent) with fix bayonets active and can being all of their guys into engagement range. Or 10 attacks hitting on 2's and STR 9 AP-4 dam D6 with the melta lances.
I think it’s viable simply because of the numbers. I think everyone is looking at their lists and asking how they deal with T 10+. So when you show up and say here’s 200 angry guardsmen charging you. You’re going to need 200 shots to go through to stop this. It’ll just overwhelm a lot of people
Just the other day I played against my buddy’s world eaters. I charged a 20 man blob into a unit of two berserkers and a master of excecution on a vital objective. He didn’t have the number of attacks necessary to kill me off in time to take it and score the points I needed. Keep in mind this was also a crusade game where points are scored at the end of the battle round and I went second so leadership wasn’t a problem.
Yeah I think the OB is the sleeper Guard combat threat, I would have at least one Catachan Blob with a Platoon Command Squad with all the tools(chainswords, Heavy Flamer and Power Fist), OB and a Preacher
@@NoName-lo9ym for the third blob yeah, first one is Straken + command with OB, second is Leontus the same way, and third could be that setup. It brings some pain lol
@@dominicl5862 55+55+60+40+55=265 or 210 total if you run it with 10 Catachans instead of 20 like I do as 20 is hard to hide and it gets in it's own way. It hits surprisingly hard.
My fear is that all of this could just get scythed away by enemy small-arms and anti-horde fire if it tries to approach. Take Cover and… actual cover can help but if they throw a modicum of blast or decent AP it’s going to wither.
I wonder if taking a DKOK blob with an enginseer, preacher, servitors in via a hades breaching drill would be any good? It's unlikely to be able to make a charge. A shame the breaching drill is so expensive, and would be pretty funny if instead of just bringing units in via deepstrike it could attach so it could recieve orders and unit buffs. If it was attaching to the unit, maybe it'd be worth the 110pts so it could get catachan or dkok buffs...
Straken with a priest is great. But you will never make it to a target. Give them a psyker instead. 4+ invulnerable save. And is dangerous in hand to hand. Sure, it costs more, but you will actually get into hand to hand. Otherwise, that squad will get swept away. Great video though!

Demolishers can't shoot into combat that the jungle fighters are tied with, if that is what you are implying. Either way Demolisher are an excellent pick for an aggressive, middle of the board fighting force.

Wait a minute ... Command Squad Veteran Guardsman can swap their lasgun to a chainsword? So they technically equipped with a close combat weapon (bayonett) and a chainsword ... ?!?
Honestly if the Catachans came out the gate with 2 attacks combat guard would be super spicy. Preachers would be a lot nicer if they could take the zealots vindicator from the Adepta Sororitas list, having one of those buried in a group of catachans with +1 to str and ap would be great. As they stand now I think the PCS adds a lot more than a preacher even if they are a little more expensive. Adding an orders and if the PCS veterans have all chainswords a lot more attacks than Sustained hits 1 from the preacher. I would also say a power fist on the commander makes up for the loss of sustained hits for straken or the enginseer/servitors group. Enginseers with a retinue of servitors are for me the big combat surprise, adding 4 power fists to a unit and the Enginseers nerd rage is very nice and at 80 points not that expensive. Having the option to add a retinues for each of the standard guard characters to add some additional punch or effect would be interesting for GW to look at and easy to envision. Commissar cadets for commissars, zealots for the preacher and wyrdvane psykers for the primaris.
I thought you couldn't stack two leaders on infantry because I thought the rule restricted one has to be a command squad. Edit ( please tell how this works. I would like to know because I love Guard. And the Warhammer app is saying something else )
I used straken catachans and engeneers against a gostkill and i standed 5 turns in front of them without doing a sht. I mean, maby against a basic space marine, or something like that is ok, but...no this is not how 10th works.

Double melta dorn would be terrifying with this list. Move up behind the Enginseer blobs getting buffed and providing close fire support.

I've tanked Mortarion with Leontus because of the Ogryn bodyguard. If you go combat the OB is mandatory in every unit.

"No more than one can be a Command squad"
So 2 characters is fine, 1C +1Csquad is fine, 2 Csquads is not allowed
All infantry in the Guard are allowed to have two leaders, the only restriction is both can't be a Command squad. It can feel quite powerful at times.
