I would like to add that if you show the local inspector you can set a scale just as you can in the piano roll. I work a lot in Phrygian scale so having a way to change then all to be correct is a time saver!! View > show local inspector > scale quantise. Amazing
“I’m so excited! And just can’t hide it. I’m am about to lose control and I think I like it! - The Pointer Sisters (In other words - I can’t wait to watch, then utilize the techniques in this bad boy!! Thanks Jono!!)
Eerie how often your subjects mirror the exact thing I’m working on. Was just looking up the manual for this exact thing the day this dropped. Well done; another clear and well paced knowledge drop.
Love these tutorials and been great helping me come from Reason to Logic after 20years, The pattern automation is amazing but it only seems to work with the logic plugins and I can't seem to get it working with any controls on Synapse Obsession software synth.......
Thanks so much, that’s great to hear. This is an absolutely excellent topic for a video in its own right. As you’ve said, Logic pre-maps all of its own Software Synth’s controls to make this particularly straightforward with its own instrument collection. But it is possible to add similar Automation for third-party synths too. Leave it with me.
This is exquisite information. This an be used to make polly Rhythms.. with effect automation!! I have about 5 polyrhythmic sequencers & yet Logic has this all built in!
Hi Jono, Great explanation . I have a Tech Question - I recently purchased the Kong Monologue and sequencing is fantastic however - I can print the midi ( It finds my Korg as an external instrument )but due to no drivers currently for my M1 iMac I can't for the life of me work out how to print this midi to audio . Is there a tutorial ?
Hi Lee. Excellent timing. A video on this very topic is coming in the next few weeks. But in short, to record the audio, you'll need an audio interface into which you'll need to connect the audio outputs from the Monologue. More to come a few Wednesday from now.
Hi and many thanks for the reply --Excellent . I have a few 1/4 jacks arriving tomorrow as I have picked up the Micro Brute so will have a play -old school style . A Big thanks again 👍🏻@@jonobuchananmusic
Excellence work. Again. Could the automation lane be used as a gate? And by that what I mean is a sort of controller that could start stop audio loops, or send midi events to an external synth for example?
Great questions. To answer the second one first, absolutely, you could use this in conjunction with any hardware synth and send MIDI Control data to any parameter you wanted. In terms of your first question, you could certainly automate Gate On/Off (using the Gate plug-in) but I don't know if you could use it to trigger audio loops or stop them. Let me look into that. Thanks as always.
Hi Rene. Great question. There's no 'definitive' advantage, as anything you might want to do to process the MIDI events in a Pattern Region can be done there, such as adjusting Note Lengths or Velocities. And, in fact, there are some disadvantages to switching out of Pattern Mode, such as changing the direction of Note Lanes. But equally, if you like working with 'regular' MIDI regions, converting your Pattern is absolutely possible, so it's entirely your choice. I hope that answers your query. Thank you!
@@jonobuchananmusic I never really paid attention to the step sequencer. You clearly pointed out some great advantages and I will most likely give it a closer look. Thanks for your reply.

Fantastic! Many thanks for sharing.
The Step Sequencer is seriously underrated and not talked about enough! I use it mostly for automation on audio tracks and it's fantastic :)
Using step fx in tandem with it 😮😮
Great! It sure is a flexible beast.

Ha! Hope it lives up to the hype! Thanks so much.
“That’s gold, Jerry. Gold!” Great stuff, one more.
Thanks so much Rui!

Great to hear and glad it was helpful. We're in sync!
This is great. Makes you fizz with ideas. An incredibly powerful tool. Cheers, Jono!
Cheers Chris - glad it got the synapses firing!
Nice one Jono ✊🏼🥸👍🏼
Thanks so much.
Fab. As usual. You sir, are a fine teacher.
Thanks so much - greatly appreciated!
Love the orange buttons, orange cable and orange automation tracks!
Oranges. Surprisingly tantalising. ; )
Brilliant concept yet again.... Great presentation Jono
Thanks so much!

Absolutely, the polyrhythmic nature of it, not just for notes but for FX too, is amazingly powerful. Thank you!
@@jonobuchananmusic Indeed this is incredibly powerful!!!
Thanks for this!

☺ Very nice, and usefull! Thanks 👍
You're welcome.
Great approach to create textures. Is there an advantage to convert this to a midi pattern once it's done?
