I loved Frida Gold as well and according to some german journalists her staging was awesome. But LOTL is fine as well. Main thing is that something actually happens on stage and is different from our usual performances. But I still hope that we get the chance to see Frida Golds live Performance somehow/somewhere 😥
LotL has a devoted following, because they're a well-establish, respected metal band with 15-16 years experience behind them. They have opened for Iron Maiden in the past, at Maiden's request, & they''re joining them on tour later this year, just after Eurovision. It's not the their first time trying to be Germany's Eurovision entry either, they are fans of the competition. I watched an interview with the singer, the initial force behind the band (for the first few years he played all the intruments himself & asked some musical friends to join him when he couldn't tour) talking about why he loves Eurovision & why they feel they'd be a good fit. He even referenced previous entries, such as saying the message of blood & glitter is not about gore but about an elixir of life that we all share, we're different (the glitter) but connected (through blood), just as though we are all made of stars.
We've had metal, hard rock, punk or just normal rock before, but they've all stuck in one genre. Even though this song is harder than most former entries, it's also very melodic, with soft elements at times, & they're theatrical. I think it's a perfect fit for Eurovision & there's an appetite for this sort of music in the competition. There are many like me (or like the band) who prefer metal but also love other genres & adore Eurovision because it opens other music up to us. It's my main reason for loving Eurovision, & it turns out I share it with LotL.
As soon as I saw this entry a few weeks ago, it went straight to my #1 spot, & it's stayed there. I watched Unser Lied für Liverpool & was shocked at how emotional I became when they won, so it's really got under my skin. lol The thing that impresses me the most is that the live version was exactly the same as the studio or even slightly better, because there's an energy live that you can't get on a recording. It's obvious they're a quality band, who know how to write a song, play their instruments & sing. You find it a lot with band like this. A lot of metal music is a lot more complex than pop, so only maestros join bands. I mean, the most proficient are bands for symphonic black metal, who could easily play in a world-class orchestra if guitars & basses were wanted. lol
I hope you soon recover from the dreaded Delhi Belly. It also sounds like you've a cold coming on too. I hope the journey back isn't too stressful. :-)

I listened to some of their songs yesterday after they won, "Blood and Glitter" is very soft compared to their other songs
@@Scheherasad It depends on the songs you listened to :-) which one were they ? Indeed, Lord of the Lost are evolving around different music genres, sometimes harder, sometimes softer. If you enjoy classical music, you can also listen to their internal side project "Lord of the Lost - Ensemble" and their "Swan Songs" albums. If you are interested in some recommandations, check out: "See you soon" (swan songs version), "A splintered mind" and "The broken ones".

@@Scheherasad I think they almost musical chameleons. They have such a good musical understanding& the technical skills to back it up that they can play in any genre they want, drifting at whim. As someone who's a metal head who also loves most other genres, they're perfect for me. Sometimes they're heavy, sometimes not, but if it's quality music, it doesn't matter to me.
Given how you don't like rock as much and yet you were smiling and singing along at parts gives me good hope there are many more like you out there and Germany will do well. I love this performance. My personal favourite from the studio tracks is Anica Russo. Was a bit shocked how bad she did with the televote, imo she deserved more. As an overall package Lord of the Lost stood out the most and I think it is a deserved win. Also happy for Will he won the jury. The show on it's own was very well done. The broadcaster seemed to have made more of an effort to put together something entertaining. It could have been on a bit earlier...Eurovision season always wreaks havoc on my sleep schedule :-)
No, most of the people like any rock and metal as the most quality and variaty genre, also it is best for pive shoes

Anica has beautiful vocals, def one of the best live performances but I don't think the song would've stood out, she also somehow got a bit lost in her staging, the grass just dwarfed her.
Definitely super happy about lord of the lost, I loved them so much.
@@caruusel I agree. From the studio cuts she is the one I listen to the most but Lord of the Lost was absolutely the right choice after seeing all the performances. It will be even more awesome on a big stage..I was already quite impressed with what they managed to create on a small tv studio stage. Can't wait :-)
I'm not usually into metal, but Blood and Glitter's been stuck in my head since I first heard it, I really like it.

I am so pleased that Lord of the Lost won. I feel gutted for Frida Gold that they had to withdraw. I hope she gets well soon and comes back with another great song in German. I was concerned that Ikke would win after he got 121 televote points, but LOTL saved us from that. Congrats Germany, you're now in my top 10.

They couldn't do it yesterday because the stage was to small.
Also they will improve the performance quite a bit. more glam, more epic..
Very pleased Lord of the Lost won, I think apart from the upgrades you spoke about the general feeling was to not again as in recent years send someone who is a total newcomer and just not used to big stages and media buzz. LoL have been touring a lot and have been opening for Iron Maiden, their album was a success at the beginning of the year here in Germany. So there is a lot more backing for them than for the artists in recent years and just a lot more experience, and you can kind of sense that, because they seemed super chill around the whole process. And (as everybody but Frida Gold), all the contestants this year were very open to press, fans and fun stuff like covering each other's songs prior to the contest. So definitely a step in the right direction from the past, although I still think that the show itself could be presented much better and with a host that is less ironic about everything. But, wouldn't have thought to be so happy with a choice of my country after all this time.
Edit: Plus, finally a kind of song that comes from a genre that is actually associated with Germany internationally, I think that was also a problem before, that things were a bit bland.
First of all.The way how diametrically different was the jury vote from televote is just crazy.😬I literally thought that when Ikke got the big points that the winner will probably be Will Church.I am literally very confused about what I should think because yeah I am dissapointed that my favorites didn't win but because I also want to see Germany succeed in ESC,then I get calm because I see that many people like it so then I get happy because Germany will do well with this group.

The difference between Jury and Televote was to be expected. Ikke has a huge fanbase and LOTL were the fan favorites - both songs are not jury pleasers, yet do well with audiences. Rock and other "harder" genre tend to do quite poorly with juries, but audiences love them.

The funny thing was even with Frida not performing, they were almost half an hour late with the show.😆

Will Church had a nice song in typical Eurovision style. But like in the last few years, he would have gone under.
LOTL has a great song and also stands out with the performance. They will surely do well.

I had the same two favourites as you Shane Will Church and Rene Miller and I was a little disappointed that neither of them won. But I don't mind Lord of the Lost winning as they do have a lot of support and will stand out more than my favs would've.
Frida Gold's song was the only one I liked (LOVED) in this selection. But, this was definitely the best choice for Germany and I'd love to see them do well!

Lord of the Lost:
Dark rock meets goth meets glam metal meets synths including a perfect mixture of clean and harsh vocals down to growls. They are a rabbit hole with so many different styles and moods.
They recently supported Iron Maiden across Europe and will do so this year again. So they they definitely know how to play a huge stage. They are great musicians and released beside their regular albums three acoustic „Swan Songs“ longplayer with a classic ensemble.
Their newest album „Blood and Glitter“ was surprisingly released end of last year with only one week of preselling and hit #1 of the German album charts.

You know me so it's not a surprise that they were my winners (together with Will), but they have the biggest chance to get good result in Liverpool out of the all finalist. And the fact that YOU were singing along is a great sign.

LORD OF THE LOST will represent Germany????????? What kind of fantasy is this 😍😍😍😍 I've listening to this songs since long ago and I didn't expect that at all!
I think they are a good choice and maybe it could be very positive for Germany (really hope so!). At least it is so different from last years. Chris Harms always do good live performances, and many people love this kind of music :-). It could be very possitive if other countries keep sending pop/ballads/whatever, because it will make the difference with those screams.

Patty Gurdy and Lord of the Lost were my favorites.. Sadly Patty had some issue with her microphone and it looked like her inears didnt work fine aswell, she looked kinda confused and was getting nervous, than she had to sing louder cus the bad mic adjustment, which causes some missed notes. I heared her live singing and she is way better than this.. at least she got 3rd most votes from German Public. I am also rly disapointed in the judging this year.. why would u ask 8 other countries to select YOUR entry for the ESC? ofc they Vote for a slow song to win the pre selection, cus we know.. slow songs mostly dont win.. i think this was bad move from Germany. We are lucky that Lord of the Lost won this..otherwhise we would be in the bottom again

My favourites were Patty and Lord of the Lost but at the end I agree with the the jury that the best singer was Will Church ( probably not the song, ...but it's a nice song) Patty unfortunately was nervous and out of Tune. So I thing that LOST was the best option.
LOTL will rock the stage and that's a good thing. I'm looking forward to it.
Lord of the lost has been one of my favorite groups for a couple of years , like Smash into pieces , so i am sooo exited 🎉😂❤ when both of them would be in eurovision i was like 😳😳😳😳 this is really epic , for me at least❤

Hello my friend! Basically Germany is a Rock and Heavy Metal Nation. We are headbangers. The fact that LOTL was chosen warms my heart. This is my muisc. Ikke (Tic Tok Winner) already annouced that he will apply for Eurovision 2024 and he already started to work on a Song. Oh my Lord. Send help. My hopes for LOTL is the left side of the scoreboard. I am pretty shure that they will do us proud.
My biggest surprise was Patty Gurdy struggeled so much with hitting the keys. That was so bad and wonky. It was clearly not her best performance so far. I only knew Patty from her collaboration with one of my favourite Bands Saltatio Mortis. I liked her back then. The biggest positive surprise for me was Trong. Good music, better dancing and very nice staging. Well done to Trong. I didn't cared about the Ballads. That's the same shite we send (and failed) every year. Except 2018 (also a Ballad but a very good one). Lonley Spring - yeah, they participated.

On btw, Electric Callboy (last years' well discussed band not representing Germany) had a sold out show at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne with a crowd of 20.000 peeps. At the same night LOTL was chosen for Germany. The election show for ESC took also place in Cologne. In a very, very small TV Studio. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Who's laughing now.
But all the jokes aside, this years selection was a step in the right direction. We've got a long way to go - but one step at the time, right?

Maybe an indication of their musicanship: Lord of the Lost were persoanlly invited by Iron Maiden to support them for 18 shows on tour last year - and again for the tour this year. So they must be doing something right - right?

I think its the same stage actually .. but honestly we need to fire this production company (and put the host Barbara into retirement) they just dont get it. Im hoping for an epic staging in Liverpool. And maybe a small revamp for the ending. Not exactly excited by the song but not mad either.

I had to laugh really hard at that, Germans clap to almost any music on the 1st or 3rd beat or mercilessly all 4, but the fact that they do that also with this music is really weird....and I am German too
There were hardly any rock fans there. But no matter, you can't have everything. They all had to vote. 🤗
For once, the Eurovision community became united by music... or should I say against Ikke.
This was my favorite from Germany, and I hope it cracks into the top 14. Most of all, Germany needs to stop with this Chinese spyware experiment because this could've been disastrous.

Exactly the same thoughts on Frida Gold’s sad withdrawal, as a result I didn’t even bother to watch the show because it seemed obvious we would get Lord of the Lost or even worse Ikke... And it turned out to be the case🤷♂️
I’ll no doubt be in the minority but i 100% prefer last year’s Rockstars to Blood & Glitter which to me is extremely repetitive

Frida was my favourite too. Will Church won the juries, the Lords won the telly vote. Thankfully they prevented the abysmal Ikke from winning. Host was best singer!
Host was best at lip sincing to playback with phenomenal use of autotune. The medley was completely playback too.
No offense, the host Barbara Schöneberger DOES have a really pleasant talking voice and great rhetoric speech. But as a singer she is about average at best - and that's about her recordings with autotune. I never heard her actually live singing and from what i heard here, i'm not missing out on anything.

And yes, we have much bigger venues. And better venues. But this is already a HUGE upgrade in venue too.

@@olgahein4384 Thanks Olga. I am British but live in The Netherlands. Whenever I hop over the border I always feel very comfortable and at ease in Germany. However, yes there is a natural conservatism in the air. Hopefully the Lords will nudge things along a bit. 👍
They should sing in German which is pretty widely understood around Europe. If smaller countries can send songs in their native languages, Germany should definitely be able to do it as well, my 2c.
I think this is more about the stigma of the german language which we germans hold up ourselves. A lot of people think other countries would not like the sound of it but I think even in metal/rock it could work very well

@@caruusel In the specific case of "Lord of the Lost" (so I am not talking about germans in general), the lyrics are always in english. Basically because Chris Harms, the frontman, singer and founder of the band feels more at ease with writing lyrics in english, as he grew up listening to bands such as Roxette. However, if you are interested in listening to him singing in german, you can check one of his other projects, called "Harms & Kapelle" (and especially the song "Nach uns die Sinn flut"). It is a blend between dark rock/country genres.
I don't know yet how to feel about Chris and the boys going there... weird.
To me this is quite a mediocre rock number. I do not share your expectations of the left side of the scoreboard. Would not be surprised over nil points actually. The only song that caught my attention was Church, mainly because of his voice.
Nil points really????? I am not sure. There is a target audience ready to pick up the vote for this one. Regarding bow big thar number is - is questionable haha. But I think it wil do well 😉

@@MrGiancana Well, those things are very subjective and it is normal that this song won't speak to everyone :-) however I've seen many newcomers (not usual listeners of Lord of the Lost) who liked this song a lot and found it catchy. The judges from Eurovision might not like this song, but our international fan community is very supportive and organized: we will bring Lord of the Lost as high as we can ! So, perhaps will you be surprised by the result.
