I’m making a temperature snake with my grandson, started on his 10th birthday. He looks up the temperature for each day and records it and the corresponding color, and I’m crocheting the snake. (We’re still working on him learning how to crochet.) We’ve even added the temperatures of the places where he stayed on vacation this summer (with rounds of a neutral color to indicate the days when he was away). It’s been a great activity to do together, talking about the weather and the changes as we go through the weeks. 🦋

I'm doing a D&D Blanket. Instead of tracking temps, I'm tracking a d20 roll every time I play D&D in 2024. I'm in 5 different games, some weekly and some biweekly, so it should work out to around 200 rows total. I'm making a Moss stitch throw/ small afghan size with this. If someone wanted to do this but doesn't play in nearly as many games, try taller stitches, or multiple rows per dice roll.

    • @KittyQueen010
      @KittyQueen010 หลายเดือนก่อน

@heyhey_melissacrochets definitely rows! I think you're right about the squares. I've also determined to use 3 rows for each color. If you know how many rows it'll take to make a blanket with the yarn you're using, take that many rows and divide it by 82. So, the blanket I'll be making is going to 246 rows. I hope that makes sense!

After years of not really understanding the appeal, because I already have a ton of blankets. I finally found a reason when I got married. If documenting that first year to our first anniversary wasn't going to do it, nothing would. Now I've caught the bug. Thankfully there are sibs and friends are having kids whose first years are getting captured in a blanket I hope will last them a long time. This will be my new go to baby blanket project. Even though I can't see them often, I can still send care their ways.

My current temperature blanket project is a graduation gift for myself! I'm doing a simple Tunisian stitch, and each row represents the same day in my freshman year and senior year. The forward pass is the color from my freshman year and the return pass is from my senior year. While there are so many ends to weave in (I might end up making tassels so I don't have to weave in ends 😂) it's turning out absolutely gorgeous and I cannot wait for it to be done!

Like the year my son was born, the year I got married, etc.. but to just do one for a year that does not hold a significant value that does not interest me. I started to make one to track moods a couple years ago, and while I never finished it, it inspired me making a weighted blanket!
I quickly realized I was not up for weaving in as many ends as a temperature blanket yields, so I made a waffle blanket instead, but still had a ton of yarn left over. I turned it all into i-cord, and knit the i-cord into a little lap blanket on giant needles. Turns out the lap blanket, while small, weighs over 5 lbs. Sooooooo... I bought 40 more skeins and am now in the process of making a 25 lb weighted blanket for my bed.

It would be so cool to make two blankets using one large scale to track my new home and my hometown and watch them come out completely different!

I love tracking the weather too but can understand how it can be boring. I like tracking it year to year to see the changes.

Thank you so much for this! I am doing a mood blanket this year and I am also 2 months behind haha 😅 seeing that you got behind made me feel better, I was like “well if a professional like Toni gets behind, then…I’ll be a bit easier on myself haha”

honestly, i always thought temperature blankets were boring because i just saw ones that were a plain stripe pattern, which i don't like anyways, and i thought the concept was dull. now that i've seen your squares for this year and how beautiful they are, i've had to reconsider my stance. i now want to try to make one for next year with your pattern! also i think it would be cool to have a yearly record of the climate as it changes.. for better or worse at least we'd get some art out of it lol

I discovered temperature blankets on your youtube channel in the summer of 2022. I was so excited I decided to do a blanket for our 15th year of marriage. So I started on September 28, 2022 and ended September 27, 2023. I followed your lead and did the tunisian crochet pattern. As soon as I finished I started working on a colorway for my next temperature blanket for 2024. I couldn't decide on what pattern to do next so I showed my hubby what you have done and he chose the granny squares. I am currently starting to think about my next blanket. I am not sure if I will do the 2025 year or go back and make one for the year my son was born, 2009, and give it to him. He does love blankets. They are becoming a comfort project for me also. It makes me smile and happy when I work on my temperature blanket.

I know I'm late to the party here but wanted to say I think a blanket just seems to big and daunting for me, but I'm tempted to do a temp shawl or scarf which sounds a bit more manageable for me.
Thanks for these videos I love your inspirations.

I'm planning on doing a temperature blanket next year. I'm going to do granny squares with the low and high temperatures (low for round 1,3, and 5 and high for round 2,4, and 6). To avoid having to keep tabs on all the different squares, I'm going to attach them after complete them for the month. For the months with less than 31 days, I plan to add themed squares that pertain to the month. I have a basic color layout but haven't shopped the colors yet. 11 colors to represent 10 degree ranges from below 20 degrees up to over 110 degrees. I may add another color if happen to hit 120 degrees...we got close this year. I'm excited to give this a try!

Hey there, working on a solid granny square blanket myself....inspired by you. Side note...as a dog mom myself....I keep a bag of the paper towels I use (1 time use) to dry my hands ....I take them with me when pooper scooping...inside the biodegradeble baggie before scooping. This takes away the squishiness for me. #stitchon!

Thank you for inspiring me to get out my own temperature blanket while watching! I’m doing a historical granny square temperature blanket that I started a few years ago, and I’m finally almost done with September! Not having a lot of time to crochet, I really look forward to working on this project. I think I’m really going to finish it this year. 😅

While I love when other people do temperature blankets, I know with how I work in crafts, it would turn into another forever WIP. However, I am thinking of doing a quilt where there would be a square to represent a week. Whether that would be a leaf block to represent the start of fall or a cake block to represent my birthday. It acts as a journal but also it would be for me, a place to learn foundation paper piecing.

I haven’t made blankets from them, but I have been tracking the high temps for my area for a couple of years now. Eventually I will get around to making a temperature blanket for myself. I am currently working on one for my sister to celebrate her 40th birthday. I hope to have it finished by Christmas because her 40th birthday was back in March of this year. 😂

I made temperature placemats for 2023, and that turned out great. I made a table runner a few years ago (I do have a very large table so not sure this would work for a normal table) and I've also done a round blanket that I liked. So there are definitely ways to avoid a huge blanket!

@TLYarnCrafts we're twinning! I grew up in Memphis, TN.... but I've always preferred cooler weather of the northern states. I lived in Alaska for just over 5 years and loved it!! 😍 It's the perfect place for all of our crocheted and knitted items too!!

I’m planning a kind of temp blanket to do next year. Rather than record daily temperatures since I live in FL, I’m using the average global temperature for each year of my life, 1958-2024. It will be my lifetime climate change blanket.

    Hi Toni👋🏽🧶
I ❤the temperature projects. They are very unique.
I started a blanket so many years ago & NEVER finished 😔 & can't find it now 😕. At that time I called it a crochet collage because of ALL the different colors in it.
I have actually started a temp scarf that I have to find 😂& use the websites that U suggested. Thanks so much!

Great video. It was fun to see what you were working on, and to hear all about what you are up to. I really, really like the yellow you added to your square. It’s a perfect shade of yellow. I love it.
I love the concept of the temperature blanket, and I do enjoy seeing what everyone does with theirs, moods, etc. However, I know me, and I know I would quit after a couple of months. I would not be able to sustain the interest in energy to work on one project for the entire year. But I do understand why other people enjoy that kind of thing.
I have to say I adore your little dog. He is so cute. I lost my two fur babies over his past year, and it has made me so sad. They were with me for very long time and my companion through some very difficult life events. You’re a little guy is just adorable, and I wanted to reach through my iPad and grab him up for a big hug and kiss. That guy has tons of energy.
Thanks for sharing your blanket with us. It’s fun to see your enthusiasm for this very personal project.
Love and blessings to you, Sandy, from Cincinnati

Yes! Cats are the best. Weirdly, I love the smell of my cat. I have never love the smell of a dog. My comfort project is a drawstring bag. I can cast on any even number of stitches and just go to town. It's super simple and mindless. Plus, when it's done I have a pretty gift bag for someone.

This year I decided to do a temperature banner in the linen stitch. The wall hanging was getting so long, that by the end of the first 6 months I switched it up for the rest of the year. I changed to linen stitch squares, and will sew them together for a patch work quilt with the rest of the year instead. So, I'll use the first 6 months for a wall hanging and the 2nd 6 months as a small quilt. I am enjoying being a part of the Hive, and am enrolled in the Crochet Academy, and enjoy wearing my t-shirts - they are so comfy too.

I use an excel spreadsheet to record my daily temperatures and use the 'fill' feature to color in the cell with the correct yarn color. Matching the yarn to the cell color is easier than using the names of the colors.
