Literally I remember the first time I played it and seeing all the analog computers and classic "Retro Sci-Fi" aesthetic and thinking to myself "I'm literally playing the fucking first Alien movie" and it was by far one of the most incredible experiences I have had in 20+ years of gaming.
Isolation was one of the worst and frustrating games I played. Funny that you computer kids and le Redditors loved it so much. I should have known the worst of society can't properly evaluate, well, anything.
I still maintain that the Marines campaign in the AvP 2010 game is the closest thing we've gotten to the best Aliens FPS experience. Taking that campaign, making it significantly longer, improving its level design, and slightly polishing its mechanics would likely result in the game Colonial Marines was aiming for but catastrophically failed to be.

Some good atmosphere and lighting, weapons felt good to use, the Xenomorphs were actually kind of menacing and their movements and animation well done unlike how janky and spastic and poorly programmed they were in CM. It could've been better, but the foundations were there. CM was doomed the moment Gearbox was like "fuck this game we're gonna make more Borderlands" and outsourced it to lesser developers who had to rush it.
Personally, I enjoyed Colonial Marines. Not GOTY 2013 but a decent to good shooter. At least it had a more fleshed out marine campaign. But anything good about it I will just credit the devs who actually managed to make it.

my ideal aliens game would be something like dead space, where yeah, you CAN kill the xenomorphs, but they can also kill you insanely quick if you're not fast enough avp 2000 kinda gave me that vibe in the skirmish mode cause of how chaotic it can be and how fast the xenos can tear you to shreds

Alien: Ressurrection (1997) is pretty close to that. Aliens, even the small ones, can kill you in the blink of an eye, so you need to be ready for them storming at you. At. Any. Moment. The weakest gun that will most likely save you is the shotgun, and ammo is not plenty so you can't miss, and trust, you want to save it for the big ones, because they really are no joke and will make your life hell. It is a kinda dated game, it's very difficult to the point of making even the best Souls player rage quit, but if you want a legit Aliens experience, I'd say it's the best one I've seen so far. I also recommend AvP (2010), but it's a shorter and more broader type game, not enough for the Aliens style.
They do answer the smaller aliens question by saying how Weyland Yutani sent stock life forms up from LV-895 to replenish the hive and bring samples back down for study. So they were probably sending up various animals that led to the excess of the smaller runner aliens
I think what aliens fireteam really needed was aliens sneaking onboard your ship from time to time and if your didn't take care of them they could make a nest on your ship
They explained the smaller aliens in the campaign they exist because Weyland Yutani was sending up animals up to replenish the hive and bringing samples back down among the animals they sent up was some kind of dog like wildlife which resulted in the smaller aliens you see. Then they were also using convicts to replenish the hive as well. This is why you have so many different kinds of aliens from the runners, warriors, drones and the like. Because they were using multiple different lifeforms to make more aliens not just humans.
Small useless comment about why there are so many Runners when compared to the Warriors and Drones: my friend got me playing the game recently and some dialogue at one point reveals that WeyYu was testing the facehuggers on dog like wildlife, so they basically ended up mass producing Runners
Yeah, it was in mission 1 of the second op and there was also mentions of it in mission 3 of the first op in dialogue though you get to see the (dead) wildlife in the former. If it was just all drones and warriors that'd definitely make it very intense but the game is fine as it is.
Yeah, but that was an _Alien_ game. Fireteam Bravo tried to go for the more action focused approach similar to _Aliens._ Or hell, I honestly would've preferred an AvP game, similar to the 2010 game.

But personally if I had to choose one over the other, I'd pick the claustrophobic vibes from isolation and the original Alien movie. I feel like there has been more games akin to Aliens which makes sense as its a very video game friendly type of film, but I would want to see another shot at those classic horror stuff.
They should make an Alien story where Queen survived and call it Queen's Revenge and we create our type of Xenomorph and we fight waves of Marines and Weyland soldiers and kill or facehug them for revenge as game goes Queen prouds us and gives us Royal Jellys

This is a great game with a great, albeit small, community of dedicated players. It really shines when the difficulty is ramped up and you have a full fireteam of cooperative players utilizing voice chat effectively. Cold Iron is a very small team, but they clearly put a lot of heart into the game. They are very responsive to the community and I can’t wait to see what else they have cooking for the franchise.
In the game they said Weyland-Yutani took creatures from the planet to use in their Alien experiments so with that in mind, if it wasnt a colony planet but more of a R&D planet, that explains the ratio for the types of aliens
I had an absolute blast with this game. I played solo, with friends, and random. It was a dope co-op game and I've always been a big fan of the style of game. Though I would prefer singleplayer ganes I love the horror franchise multiplayer offerings. Plus hey we have alien isolation. Also this game is a indie/AA game on a small budget.
My first thought for the majority of dog like enemies is the at they were used as a “lab rat” substitute? Being probably the easiest to deal with and acquiring when experimenting with Alein eggs.

I respectfully disagree with you. I think the game is great fun nostalgic for sure. But there has been reason to keep me playing. Unlocking all the weapons and gadgets and cosmetics. Lvling all the weapons and finding the perfectly balanced abilities for each character for the harder lvls. I mainly play the game with my dad. We really enjoy the game together. I can see where you’re coming from though. The game isn’t isolation pre colonial marines or avp. But it’s not meant to be. It’s an “aliens” shooter and I think it delivers on that. An action game not a horror game. Horror elements that aren’t over done scary but of overwhelming numbers where the odds are against you.

Wow, I think I must be playing a different game… I get it, there is no story and that shocked me too. But this is a game not for mindless finger bashing, but for FPS censures! If you think its mindless, then I suggest that you set the difficulty higher or use one of the huge range of bonus cards to edit the gameplay. The fact that your own teammates can end up doing you more harm than many of the enemies (on intense or higher) means that you need good gun discipline. The many subtle combinations of weapon attachments, special abilities and attributes can make building out a speck highly involving with many powerful results. This coupled with the random spawning of units throughout the levels make for good replay value, even with the limited 12 missions. This game achieves a level of fun and requires a level of concentration hitherto unheard of in most other FPS’s. Perhaps the reviewers’ impressions were marred due to comparisons made with other games or with their own interest in the alien franchise, but taken on its own merits, it’s just great gunplay. If you what to enjoy it, then take it seriously, not for children!

It's not like, 10/10, but it's a decently fun game with good shooting, great amounts of attention to Aliens Lore, and a lot of guns. I also like how tactical it is, along with its emphasis on setting up defenses and stuff.
I think everyone who has ever played Alien Isolation is salivating over the thought of another game that is similar. I will never forgive IGN and Gamespot for their reviews that I think helped tank the possibility of there ever being an Alien Isolation franchise. Best Alien game ever, BY FAR.

I was playing this for free on gamepass, and I was having fun. Until I got to the end of the first chapter and I failed 4 times to get on the ship. I dont even know what I was doing wrong, I did all the objectives and I just kept dying at the very end.
Its fun. Some nice enhancing plot notes with the history of weylandutani. My favorite thing about fireteam is actually the soundtrack. Cello glory that captures the excitement of Aliens. Plenty i could pick apart elsewise, but its still fun.
I feel like Deep Rock Galactic manages the gameplay and feel that an alien game should have even if it has more of a comic book/comedy theme to it. Would highly recommend to all Alien fans, it has a lot of great work with lighting, environment design and creature design to emulate that Alien feel
DRG is awesome and the netcode is better than fireteam. Although there's not as much resource management in A:FE so using resources in A:FE is more along the lines of 'Use it well' rather than 'Use it wisely'
Man I don’t know how anyone goes passed “Extreme Difficulty” on consoles. The game doesn’t even load well near the end of every leve, everything starts to skip & rubber band all over the place the closer you get to the end which just makes the playtime almost an 40 minutes to an hour long. 🤣
Put a predator on the he team and it would rock and it could be a story where the marines and predators have to team up fighting the engineers. First few missions could be marines vs predators.
It is..It was literally announced, advertised, marketed and sold as a big What IF story.....There were also alot of "special" people with selective attention spans that also missed that it was marketed as a squad based shooter, yet those "special" people cried about it not being a survival horror....Who woulda thought that Umbrella would send an entire team with more supplies than just a pistol with 1 magazine, a combat knife and a first aid spray....
A bit tangential to the main point of this video, but since you brought it up, I still don't understand why everyone hates the Aliens Colonial Marines retcon. Hicks and Newt getting killed off right at the beginning of Aliens 3 was always a dumb choice to begin with so I'm glad Hicks gets more time to shine and be in other things, even if the game he was brought back in was questionable. It's still a good retcon

I'm having alot of fun with this game with my brother. Also why are there so many Runners? Beeeecause the big bad company was transferring alien dogs(not xenos) and using them as hosts. There's so many dead dogs and cages everywhere.
I would love a open world game where you play as the alien and you take over the aria kill and eat to gain exp and upgrade or capture to bring to the hive for the eggs be they human or animals for more unique aliens to increase allies you can command to fight with you in a pack or order them to move on there own to hunt for the hive and finally customize your xenomorphs appearance mainly couse I love that in games
I love your passion about the series. It really is a great franchise just got handled very poorly through the years. Also, lol great observation on the dog/ cow alien. Most people wouldn’t have realized that. Here is to Prey hopefully being good and not another predator hunting down kids with autism.
Pre-ordered the game on ps4, on launch i had a group with like 12 people who i'd play the game with daily, but after like 3 weeks I had everything maxed, unlocked basically everything, and pretty much stopped playing after they added the Phalanx and I maxed it due to the game getting to stale. I haven't touched the game since then so can't confirm if the game is still dead (Which I do believe it is) I was very excited when I heard about a new aliens game and I was not dissapointed by what I got to play, just sad the game is quite content dry. I still hope we get a new AVP game some day or atleast a game where you can play as a xenomorph (not counting the old avp games)
If I were to make an Aliens shooter, like A: CM (2013) ambitiously claimed they were trying to do, I'd make it like Gears of War. It's the best action shooter I've seen handle "humans vs aliens" themes so well so far. Allow us to crouch, roll, sprint, jump, everything to make that experience enticing and engaging as you will have to make a run away from or towards the enemies sometimes. Make the weapons your main instrumments: blades, bullets, guns, shields, gadgets, etc. Your arsenal isn't just a toolbox, it is you. Always reloading, upgrading, working, ready for another fight, because you'll need it. Speaking of needing to be ready, the enemies need to be the best. Not all have to be, but there has to be a pyramid of different levels of danger. Xenomorphs, facehuggers, chestbursters, neomorphs, hammerpedes, trilobites, deacons, engineers, mutants, you can even make up new ones. Just bring 'em all and make each one as different and as strategic as necessary. Look at The Last Of Us clickers, that's how threatening Aliens should be. And for last but not less important, the story. Somewhere after Aliens or Alien 3 is good enough to me, but there has to be more of a narrative. They need to show they can stick to it while developing the characters, nothing too complicated, just make our time worth it. Other than all I've said I guess would be having some DLC with extra content, but I'd say that's it. If anyone got any more ideas, please leave a comment on this thread.
First run-through was good, then that was it. It just needed WAY more content, especially for how much time that they had to work on it. Horror elements weren't really there, fortnite gunplay, pointless cover mechanic, and imo, a pretty lack luster story. It feels more like a mobile game than it does an Alien game (like Alien blackout). The game is dead, only 400 active players atm with a peak of 15k on release. Like, ever since people saw the gameplay, they got the gist of the game in the first few minutes. And the fact that the DLC's that have come out have had literally almost nothing to add, it feels very hollow. What we need is an alien game that is Alien Isolation, but with gunplay; make it multiplayer, and BOOM, you got me. Such a shame, since this game had some hype, but flopped upon release imo. Hopefully, some game studio can come along and make the alien game that everyone wants.

Although there's not as much resource management in A:FE so using resources in A:FE is more along the lines of 'Use it well' rather than 'Use it wisely'

Man I don’t know how anyone goes passed “Extreme Difficulty” on consoles. The game doesn’t even load well near the end of every leve, everything starts to skip & rubber band all over the place the closer you get to the end which just makes the playtime almost an 40 minutes to an hour long. 🤣

Love this game. The lower budget is perfect for what it is and it's allowed them to keep updating it unlike the big budget ones you play once.

Put a predator on the he team and it would rock and it could be a story where the marines and predators have to team up fighting the engineers. First few missions could be marines vs predators.

Last I check Operation raccoon city was just a what if story.
It is..It was literally announced, advertised, marketed and sold as a big What IF story.....There were also alot of "special" people with selective attention spans that also missed that it was marketed as a squad based shooter, yet those "special" people cried about it not being a survival horror....Who woulda thought that Umbrella would send an entire team with more supplies than just a pistol with 1 magazine, a combat knife and a first aid spray....
Raised by Wolves seemed like an Alien Fanfic so they should add a Necromancer from that to Fireteam.

A bit tangential to the main point of this video, but since you brought it up, I still don't understand why everyone hates the Aliens Colonial Marines retcon. Hicks and Newt getting killed off right at the beginning of Aliens 3 was always a dumb choice to begin with so I'm glad Hicks gets more time to shine and be in other things, even if the game he was brought back in was questionable. It's still a good retcon

I'm having alot of fun with this game with my brother.
Also why are there so many Runners? Beeeecause the big bad company was transferring alien dogs(not xenos) and using them as hosts. There's so many dead dogs and cages everywhere.

I would love a open world game where you play as the alien and you take over the aria kill and eat to gain exp and upgrade or capture to bring to the hive for the eggs be they human or animals for more unique aliens to increase allies you can command to fight with you in a pack or order them to move on there own to hunt for the hive and finally customize your xenomorphs appearance mainly couse I love that in games
I love your passion about the series. It really is a great franchise just got handled very poorly through the years. Also, lol great observation on the dog/ cow alien. Most people wouldn’t have realized that. Here is to Prey hopefully being good and not another predator hunting down kids with autism.

Pre-ordered the game on ps4, on launch i had a group with like 12 people who i'd play the game with daily, but after like 3 weeks I had everything maxed, unlocked basically everything, and pretty much stopped playing after they added the Phalanx and I maxed it due to the game getting to stale. I haven't touched the game since then so can't confirm if the game is still dead (Which I do believe it is) I was very excited when I heard about a new aliens game and I was not dissapointed by what I got to play, just sad the game is quite content dry. I still hope we get a new AVP game some day or atleast a game where you can play as a xenomorph (not counting the old avp games)

If I were to make an Aliens shooter, like A: CM (2013) ambitiously claimed they were trying to do, I'd make it like Gears of War. It's the best action shooter I've seen handle "humans vs aliens" themes so well so far.
Allow us to crouch, roll, sprint, jump, everything to make that experience enticing and engaging as you will have to make a run away from or towards the enemies sometimes. Make the weapons your main instrumments: blades, bullets, guns, shields, gadgets, etc. Your arsenal isn't just a toolbox, it is you. Always reloading, upgrading, working, ready for another fight, because you'll need it.
Speaking of needing to be ready, the enemies need to be the best. Not all have to be, but there has to be a pyramid of different levels of danger. Xenomorphs, facehuggers, chestbursters, neomorphs, hammerpedes, trilobites, deacons, engineers, mutants, you can even make up new ones. Just bring 'em all and make each one as different and as strategic as necessary. Look at The Last Of Us clickers, that's how threatening Aliens should be.
And for last but not less important, the story. Somewhere after Aliens or Alien 3 is good enough to me, but there has to be more of a narrative. They need to show they can stick to it while developing the characters, nothing too complicated, just make our time worth it.
Other than all I've said I guess would be having some DLC with extra content, but I'd say that's it. If anyone got any more ideas, please leave a comment on this thread.

First run-through was good, then that was it. It just needed WAY more content, especially for how much time that they had to work on it. Horror elements weren't really there, fortnite gunplay, pointless cover mechanic, and imo, a pretty lack luster story. It feels more like a mobile game than it does an Alien game (like Alien blackout). The game is dead, only 400 active players atm with a peak of 15k on release. Like, ever since people saw the gameplay, they got the gist of the game in the first few minutes. And the fact that the DLC's that have come out have had literally almost nothing to add, it feels very hollow. What we need is an alien game that is Alien Isolation, but with gunplay; make it multiplayer, and BOOM, you got me. Such a shame, since this game had some hype, but flopped upon release imo. Hopefully, some game studio can come along and make the alien game that everyone wants.
