No that's the ideal monster game for me someone at ground level looking up at the sky to see a towering monster. For a godzilla game I would make the human aspect a last of us mixed with dead rising hybrid of tense survival fetch quests and then have godzilla fight the bad monster. I think I had the best Godzilla game experience with the PS4 Godzilla, way back when it came out in 2014. That first playthrough, ripping through monsters and blowing up buildings, was absolute bliss. Learning the moves, pulling off combos, and blowing up everything was one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. And of course, every time I unlocked a new monster (which practically happened every five seconds) I got to experience it all again. Fast forward to 6 years later and I still love the game. It still remains the only game that I still play even after completing it twice.
21:05: there is a game like that. It’s called City Shrouded In Shadow and it has multiple IP ranging from Godzilla, Gamera, and Ultraman. It’s Japan only with no English translation, but since it’s mainly a point A to point B game, reading isn’t really an essential to the gameplay.
To add onto your game idea. Have actual DESTRUCTION physics. Like the original films ((P.S. I have Godzilla PS4 and imo I like how faithful it is to the original toho films, I understand people don’t like it. I accept, but I have fun with what it is. Tho, they should keep the monsters relatively slow unlike the pipeworks games, but not stiff animations like PS4, rather it should entirely be done proper physics imo))
I’ve never got into the Godzilla movies and wouldn’t even know where to start, but a Mendoza video is a Mendoza video and are always enjoyable to watch!
If you're interested there's a good video by Cosmavoid talking about which Godzilla films may fit people's taste depending on what kind of movies they like. Here's a link: th-cam.com/video/-c3PMVUJyM4/w-d-xo.html
(4:19) So like "Earth Defense Force: Final Wars. Featuring Godzilla", where all the kaijus were turned into Super Sentai monsters and do flips and kicks and moves that defy the laws of gravity and weight.
I feel similar thoughts on the pipeworks godzilla games and generally most of the video. The pipeworks godzilla games at best are decent distractions but not really something to go out of your way in playing. Ironically enough the best one for me is the ps4 game, I do think it's more of an acquired but what I like about it is the progression of having to level up godzilla by destroying cities and mantaining that destruction meter, It's pretty fun if rather time consuming. it could have used a lot more variety in missions and be better overall, but I think it's the most successful of the godzilla games made. That being said, War of the monsters kicks the absolute shit out of every godzilla game and I'd also vouch for the EDF games too, as far as kaiju based games go.
What's the song playing in the background at 15:08?? Can anyone tell me? Lol I remember hearing it a few times back then but never got to learn the songs name
6:19 Oh wow you know what Ultraman is! Also, there is a survival kaiju game out there. It's called City Shrouded in Shadow. It has characters like Godzilla, Gamera, Ultraman, etc.
3 years later and still a great video. NGL I think you should atleast try to emulate the missing titles that didn't make this video, would like to see your opinion. Additionally, although not entirely what you're looking for, I think the recently released Gigabash would make for a fun inclusion to another retrospective like this, it has so far 2 DLCs that add Godzilla and Ultraman + their characters to a roster of mostly original fighters.
As someone who played a lot of Godzilla unleashed on the Wii, I recall the monsters have a faction system that determines which monsters are friendly towards you. So often if the monster is walking away from you it’s probably because you are high enough on their faction list. From what I recall destroying city buildings pisses off the Global defense force(basically most of the mech characters), the mutant monster faction( destroyah, biolante, etc) loves the destruction though. Destroying human or alien ships also effects factions. Defeating suped up monsters that have the special crystal powers I think the earth defenders like(Godzilla, angurius, Rodan, mothra are generally in that category) that. Helping the alien faction monsters get the special powers I think makes them like you? There are other things like destroying crystals and going overheated that affects it too. It’s been awhile so I apologize if some of that is incorrect, but I loved the faction system. One thing that’s interesting if you collect a majority of the crystal powers you unlock a last mission that is basically like king of the kaiju where all factions are supposed to go to 0% as all the faction monster decide to try to stop your monster from being an unstoppable tyrant. Weirdly the very first time I did it I actually maintained factions for 3 of the 4 so it made it super easy. Must it been a glitch cause it never happened on replays. Anyway despite the pretty bad motion controls I loved this game.
If I were to make a Godzilla game, I'd have a campaign mode where you play through the various Eras. You have every Godzilla version unlocked from the start according to its Era, and play through the stories. Each monster you defeat unlocks it. Simple as that. Maybe doing special levels or secret bosses would unlock extra costumes or something. Each character would also have customizable movesets which unlock with extra costumes. Showa Era - Godzilla, Anguirus, King Kong, Rodan, King Ceasar, Gigan, King Ghidorah, Mecha Godzilla, Gabra, Hedorah, Titanosaurus Heisei Era - Godzilla (alternate costume), Biollante, Mecha King Ghidorah (alternate costume), Battra (Mothra costume), Mecha Godzilla (alternate costume), Destroyah Millenium Era - Godzilla (alternate costume), Orga, Kiryu (Mech Godzilla alt costume), Baragon, Gigan (alternate costume), Zilla, Megaguirus Unlockables Shin Godzilla - last 20 rounds of Survival Mode Megalon Jet Jaguar Ebirah Super X
City shrouded in shadow is a game where your a human in the middle of kaiju battles. It has Godzilla,Ganera,Envangalion and Ultraman. But it never got localised.
i just thought of an idea for a godzilla game: what if you didn’t play as godzilla? what if instead you played as military guys trying to stop various kaiju from destroying the city?
I just really want you to cover Deadly Alliance and Deception, those games are so lore heavy they would be interesting dives for new fans to discover. Maybe clarify things that NRS has retconned in their recent games.
In like ten years (because 10 years ago I didn’t think we could do what we can today with technology) I would like to see an open world Godzilla game that includes the whole world build using google maps or something like that and have the game be more about Godzilla protecting earth in a constantly updated chain of missions.
As a kid I always wanted a godzilla game but never knew how it would play out, do you want to play as a human? do you want to play as Godzilla? 2014 Godzilla, OG Godzilla, 80s Godzilla?... play as the military? the monsters? or all of them?, Like there's tons of potential and ways a Godzilla game could go about, they just gotta find which way to go.
For a Godzilla fighting game, I’d like the combat to work more like a slightly slower GoW4/GoW5 combat system with kaiju and giant urban structures instead of Greek/Norse gods and wooden pillars. For a Godzilla survival game, I’d want something much more like the tie-in Godzilla 2014 mobile game, only with a bit of a story and more gameplay options like escaping a kaiju in a city by car or escaping a kaiju in the water by speedboat or escaping a kaiju in the air by a plane or jet. And I know City Shrouded in Shadow does kaiju survival, it just doesn’t do an incredible job. The monsters all just stand in one spot and repeat the same moves until you leave.
Anguirus is my brother’s favorite kaiju and has been since the mid-80s. My favorite kaiju has always been Rodan. (We both love the big G too. Obviously.)
They should make a godzilla game similar to the Friday the 13th game, there’d be 4 roles, Godzilla would be tasked with destroying the city and any humans or monsters that get in there way, the second monster who’s tasked with defeating godzilla, the civilian who start in the center of disaster and have to either escape or survive, finally the military who would be in jets and tanks tasked with destroying the monsters
I guess that PS4 Godzilla game is pretty rare since it sells for $300. I remember passing on it when it was $20 because of "Godzilla is attacking the generator"!
I don't know if anywhere in the 500 comments its been mentioned, but Godzilla: Destroy All Monters Melee is alot better balanced and less glitchy than Save the Earth. It was one of the best selling GCN games back in the day and spent several consecutive months on top of the best selling game charts. The only reason Save the Earth wasn't released on the GCN where it would have sold like gangbusters is because they were pushing the online feature really hard and ended up being an only modest success. As far as a casual experience the games are indistinguishable and Save the Earth's monster roster is pretty much perfect. But if you were into the "nuts and bolts" of fighting games, G: DAMM is a bit tighter of an experience in that regard and the AI is less oblivious. Godzilla: Unleashed deadass sucks. I remember back in the day on the message boards it was rumoured that the developers pumped up the monster roster when they realized the game was going to suck to keep the hype up. War of the Monsters is such a good IP. The game benefits from their smaller size that wouldn't work with Godzilla proper, but that's what you get when you make something new. As for the last game, I've heard that these kinda' boring simulator type games are popular in Japan and that's where it was initially released (that's right you just don't GET IT), but I haven't played it, though. Also Godzilla fans are awful never talk to them. I would know, I am one.
I still remember the mental scarring Angry Joe got from the ps4 game. "Godzilla is approaching the generator... the generator is losing power... Godzilla is approaching the generator... The generator is losing power..."
That part where you talked about a game/portion of a game where you play as humans during a Kaiju attack actually exists. It was called City Shrouded In Shadow. 9:46 You thought it was over
6:38 I’m nobody
Wow, GodzillaMendoza making a Godzilla video, inconceivable
Disclaimer: I have never listened to Nine Inch Nails
The prophecy of the Godzilla video has been fulfilled...we only had to wait till Armageddon for it

How to make a fandom stop their infighting and go collective mob mentality 101.
Godzilla Destroy all Monsters for the original Xbox was great!
I had it for ps2 and I Thoroughly enjoyed it
Godzilla Save The Earth from the same series is also great, and the ps2 version of Godzilla Unleashed while underwhelming, is fine.
Only real ones remember Godzilla domination for the gba with Mecha king Ghidorah as the final boss
You know, years ago I typed up my own ideas for a Godzilla game. It's called 'Godzilla: Kaiju War.'
Hey did you know that the Rampage movie it's an adaptation of an old arcade videogame series?
21:05: there is a game like that. It’s called City Shrouded In Shadow and it has multiple IP ranging from Godzilla, Gamera, and Ultraman. It’s Japan only with no English translation, but since it’s mainly a point A to point B game, reading isn’t really an essential to the gameplay.
the storymode cutscene goes so hard, the alien leader turning around while gigan and ghidorah fly to the earth
To add onto your game idea.
Have actual DESTRUCTION physics.
Like the original films
Same but i like king kong more
If you're interested there's a good video by Cosmavoid talking about which Godzilla films may fit people's taste depending on what kind of movies they like.
The fact that the crowds in War of the Monsters are all 2D sprits is just adorable.
Music
I feel so attacked with the anguirus thing.
I think it was just a joke since Anguirus and Baragon are fan favorites (and some of my personal favorites)
I see you're making a video about Godzilla, but when are you going to make a video about Mendoza, the city in Argentina?
If I were to make a Godzilla game, I'd have a campaign mode where you play through the various Eras. You have every Godzilla version unlocked from the start according to its Era, and play through the stories. Each monster you defeat unlocks it. Simple as that. Maybe doing special levels or secret bosses would unlock extra costumes or something. Each character would also have customizable movesets which unlock with extra costumes.
Showa Era - Godzilla, Anguirus, King Kong, Rodan, King Ceasar, Gigan, King Ghidorah, Mecha Godzilla, Gabra, Hedorah, Titanosaurus
Heisei Era - Godzilla (alternate costume), Biollante, Mecha King Ghidorah (alternate costume), Battra (Mothra costume), Mecha Godzilla (alternate costume), Destroyah
Millenium Era - Godzilla (alternate costume), Orga, Kiryu (Mech Godzilla alt costume), Baragon, Gigan (alternate costume), Zilla, Megaguirus
Unlockables
Shin Godzilla - last 20 rounds of Survival Mode
Megalon
Jet Jaguar
Ebirah
Super X
If the destruction is good, then I’ll buy it. If it’s just buildings phasing through the ground or the PS4 destruction, then I’m out.
5:13 bruh my theater look EXACTLY like that wtf thats crazy
how this license hasn't been handed over to many videogames studios is beyond me. Oh wait toho obviosuly charged an arm and a leg for the license.
I just really want you to cover Deadly Alliance and Deception, those games are so lore heavy they would be interesting dives for new fans to discover. Maybe clarify things that NRS has retconned in their recent games.
People talk bad about them all the time, but I really miss stuff like the konquest, atmosphere, and especially the music from that era.
In like ten years (because 10 years ago I didn’t think we could do what we can today with technology) I would like to see an open world Godzilla game that includes the whole world build using google maps or something like that and have the game be more about Godzilla protecting earth in a constantly updated chain of missions.
Why did I get genuinely sad at the railway shooter at the movies segment.
Godzilla Strike Zone from 2014 (it's a mobile game for the 2014 film) was pretty good
As a kid I always wanted a godzilla game but never knew how it would play out, do you want to play as a human? do you want to play as Godzilla? 2014 Godzilla, OG Godzilla, 80s Godzilla?... play as the military? the monsters? or all of them?, Like there's tons of potential and ways a Godzilla game could go about, they just gotta find which way to go.
Destroy All Monsters is probably the best if the Trilogy. The story mode at least!
I want a godzilla game with all godzilla designs and monsters with fun unique campaigns for each character with a verses mode and destruction mode
6:40
Me a anguirus fan:BOI
Obviously.)
*RODAN DISRESPECT WILL NOT BE TOLERATED IN THIS HIZOUSE*
They should make a godzilla game similar to the Friday the 13th game, there’d be 4 roles, Godzilla would be tasked with destroying the city and any humans or monsters that get in there way, the second monster who’s tasked with defeating godzilla, the civilian who start in the center of disaster and have to either escape or survive, finally the military who would be in jets and tanks tasked with destroying the monsters
Really impressed with some of the editing in this, definetly shows improvement from your much older videos.
There is this kaiju game called Override Mech City Brawl
My man isn’t even finished his entire MK retrospective and is already starting another....
Why not?
A video that lives up to your channels name aye , it's about time .
I didn't know you were an Ultraman fan.
It was a crossover between all the great giant monsters of Japan. Godzilla, Gamera, Ultraman, Even Evangelion and Fucking the Patlabor Ingram of all things.
Finally a godzilla video from a person called GodzillaMendoza
1:04 He referred to AVGN...........my favorite TH-camr talking about my other favorite TH-camr 😭.....!!!!
Who the hell is going to pay 500 dollars just for Godzilla on Ps4
What do you mean you don't make Godzilla content?! Well, big fellah, you've taken your first step into a larger world.
