I make a completely different genre of music to you and don't want a lot of the equipment you talk about but man these videos are so therapeutic. You are very calming and chill to listen to and watch. love it all!
I am so glad that I stumbled upon your channel quite a while ago! As I am still new to using synths, it isn’t always easy to figure out where to go next or to figure out what is missing. Thanks to your videos and sharing what you have learned and found to work for you, I feel more often than not inspired and motivated to keep “messing around” with my gear … and hopefully getting better at using it as time goes by. This video was/is so very helpful, it sounds strange to just say thank you. But at this point, it’s the least I can do: Thank you for taking the time and sharing this, Ricky!
The way I always remembered the envelope depth/max/sustain was that the start point is the manual setting on the knob, the peak is the mod depth amount (where the end of the attack phase reaches) and the sustain is the resting point after finishing decay stage. So if the knob is at 10 and the depth is 40 and the sustain is 20 it'll go 10 (Attack) 50 (decay) 30 (Sustain) and then release travels back to 10 (start point). What threw me in the beginning of learning was negative mod depth but when you realize it means it's just moving the knob in the opposite direction, it's easy. 🙂 I love all this movement talk! Happy I can also follow along with Peak! Such an incredible synth! One of my best purchases to date. Oh and before I forget, your keyboard chops are getting really good Ricky! Some pleasant chords and noodling in this video.
Thanks for being an important stage in my understanding all my synths (including the Peak) better. The mod matrix is something that has befuddled me far more than it ever should have, but this video is one of a very select few that have shed so much light on the subject in a way that I understand without any ambiguity. So, thank you and thank you again, Ricky. I'm very grateful.
Just wanted to say I'm a huge fan of your channel! I don't make much electronic music these days because of other commitments but I still love watching your videos and scratching that music producer itch!
Hey Ricky, great video again! i own a Peak for several years now and i love it so much. I've owned quite a few synths, but peak still has the best value for money imo. So fun to program. Since you've begged for delayed envelopes, could you maybe also beg for free running lfo per voice? I know you showed this trick 1 time where you changed the phase of some lfo's.. but it would be cool to be able to do stuff like the ob6 or prophet 6 with their cross mod. Also maybe a vintage knob where it affects also the envelopes and filter, instead of just the pitch what the drift parameter does :p Peak is still awesome, but would love those features.
Hey! One of the most interesting YT channel (in regards to music creation etc) out there. Lot's of inspiration, nice ideas and great vibes! I am coming from an entire different genre of music but these kind of videos (but nearly everything in this channel) seems relevant to me ! Thanks and much appreciated! Will join the channel very soon! Big Up Ricky. Keep it up! (As i was writing this message i saw that @LouJP wrote exactly the same think!!! lol)
This will sound silly, and you didn't directly address it, but this video made me realise you can set the shape manually and then the lfo or env amount from the front panel. For some reason I assumed the when you select lfo or mod env it resets the manual amount. Of course that way limits what you can do with wavetable modulation, so now I'm realising I have way more control than I thought. Thanks!
I just got a Peak this week and appreciate these exploration videos. When's the Peak: Beginner to Pro series going to happen man? Also with the MPC 2.11 update coming out next week are you going to be doing any videos with the MPC Live 2?
Ive been struggling so much with making patches but i have some down time in the next few weeks. i dont have a peak buy im gonna try this on my micromonsta 2.
Hey there! Great vid again. I’m using sylenth1. Would I wiggle the wave table with the LFO? Is that the only way with this synth? If anyone knows awesome!
I enjoy your videos I was wondering if you could recomend a synth that could record without a daw computer... perhaps by itself great for Ambient right now I'm looking at hydra synth blackbox or lemon drop would I still need a 4 track like Zoom either way thats fine?
I listened to an old jam I had in the model samples and model cycle and it was such a jam. Would you guys buy a model analog 2? Haha I made that up but a duo-phonic analog electron box for 300 haha and maybe a model mixer too! Haha.
Ricky, are you done with Eurorack as not done any Pallette Case updates lately which is my main interest as I don’t use Daws, Software or large Synths, I have O-Coast Quandrid Swarm, Thyme desk top units + 20 odd modules(Eurorack) but that’s just me Great tutorials Ricky anyhow 👍🆒🎶🎶🎶🇬🇧🌟🌟😎
You coax such wonderful sounds from the Peak. What a treat! The Tip 3 section is so, so lush and gorgeous. Whew! There's a lot of lip service paid to the notion of spending the time it takes to learn what your gear is able to do. It really shows that you've put in the time to learn what Peak is able to do and this video is a testament to how important it is to take that journey with your gear. It was a pleasure to get lost in the sauce with you, today. Thanks, Ricky.
Envelope vs Ahn-velope We probably prounounce this differently in US English based on the ending vowel/consonant of the word that precedes it. It's simply easier to say "The Envelope" but "An Ahn-velope". But that's just a guess Ahn-velope is from the original French pronunciation but is now seen as a bit Posh or higher class. In reality, both pronunciations are valid in US and British English. (I'm not a Linguist, just a hobbiest. So feel free to make corrections if any or all of this is incorrect.)
Hey Ricky! Do you ever accidentally turn the Patch Preset knob when you are sound designing? Nothing is more infuriating than the placement of that knob.
hey! the lastest firmware has a fix for this. hit settings button, scroll to page 9 and turn PATCH CUE on. it makes it so you have to turn the patch knob then press the flashing patch button to change.LIFE SAVER!
@@b.c.slumber3694 Most welcome mate, it's such a life saver hey! I nearly cried a few times when I lost a patch that I had spent hours on. Just think of me every time you see that light blink ha ah
Off-camera I like to play around with filter sweeps. What could be really dope is if any of your examples could be sent through a random present granulator for even more movement and texture goodness. In the i0s world, there are some pretty cool granulator apps. FRMS comes to mind among others. Great video. Thanks

I'm just starting out. For some reason, I can't make the jump from bleep-blooping around to making actual music, that other people could listen to without having a brain-cringe overload. I like clubby techno and more weird fast-changing stuff (up to breakcore, metalcore), but if you listened to my jams, you'd think I'm trying to make theme songs for kids' game shows. The cringy ones. Advice would be appreciated XD
"N-velope"... not "ahhhn-velope". The latter is more the bumpkin/middle of the country way of saying it.. kind of like the people who say "acrrosst" instead of "across", etc

Ricky is for the people no matter what you like
He does seem like a cool dude, very chill and personable. I'm a big fan too!
I love it when you explain synth stuff without getting gear specific. It leaves me with the puzzle of figuring this concepts out on my own stuff.
5:55 it's envelope
Definitely
I would love to see your take on patching a microfreak like this. Thanks again!
You’re one of the few synth channels that teaches concepts instead of simply whatever tech is newest. Very much appreciated and I love the content :)

I like to use an LFO to modulate waveshapes on the Rev2 and the Neutron, works great.
Peak is my favorite synth. It’s not the newest or coolest synth I own, but its the one I reach for the most often. Thanks for more peak content!!

The final patch is fantastic.
My filter cutoff at 50% is way more open than yours when I tried replicating tip 3. Any thoughts on what could be causing this?
set your key-tracking to match the pitch of the key you press. on some synths, this means set key-tracking to 100%.

pre-shaping a sound seems easier than live fiddling with sequences
record some covers of songs you like for practice. don’t stress just have fun getting as close as you can. you’ll learn a lot
It’s pronounced envelope, not envelope
ENvelope = What your birthday card from grandma comes in.
ONvelope = What you control your VCA with.
