I have a question about night mode on the iPhone (I have the 14 Pro Max). I took photo's of the northern lights and I took 10 second photos with my hand resting on a wall. Those photos turned out far better than the photos I took with a regular photo camera on tripod. But then, when I look at the data it says those photos were taken 1/2 seconds on 5000 ISO, 1.1 seconds on 2000 ISO, but it never shows the 10 seconds it actually took to take those photos. What do your photos say about the used exposure time (when used at night)?

You must have a tripod, when the phone does not detect motion, then it allows 30 second exposure, when only the 10 second option is available, wait 5-10 seconds while holding the phone on a tripod, and then you will be able to take a photo in 30 second exposure (iPhone 13 Pro Max, on your model should also work)

I did not want t use the 30 second exposure. I used 10 seconds without tripod. The question is about all photos taken with 10 second exposure, that none of them show 10 second exposure, but 1/2 or 1.1 second exposure. Why not 10 seconds. What happened there?

I noticed the same thing. For example: when I take pictures with a 30 second exposure the information about photo shows only 10 second. And my question is why not 30 second??

@@joannazahor4645 The phone must be completely still, and if it feels even a slight movement, then it switches again to 10s. Try pressing the take picture button very gently or use the 10s self-timer

That's how professionals do explain the scenario.

You can turn it on by swiping up and turning the night mode button on lol

I'm only able to select 10sec exposure time, even in a dark room.

@@echo9INE that’s because the 30 and 1 min versions use proximity sensors to work out how much light should be used in larger areas

Thanks! I'll give it a go outdoors. I was trying to snap a photo through a large bay window, but it would only give me the 10sec exposure. Cheers.
