Amazing! I didn’t know good cell phones, an iPhone in this case, could generate such a good image. As it happens, my iPhone 15 pro max arrives from Apple today! I’m getting it as an upgrade from my Pro 11, but also for the improved camera to use on an upcoming trip touring the Great Lakes in North America so I won’t need to take my regular camera gear. Your video really reinforces this decision. Let me note that I have been an astrophotographer in just about all of the sub genres (DSO, planetary, lunar, solar, Milky Way) for the past 9 years, and my first attempt at the Milky Way core won the dpreview Milky Way challenge back in 2015. Beginners luck, I guess. Anyway, with this amount of experience, I’ve very impressed with your image and how simple the editing was in Lightroom. I should also mention that I love windmills, but they are really hard to find in the USA, even in rural areas.
Wow what a beautiful shot! I’m quite impressed with the iPhone capabilities I didn’t know it could take this good of a shot . I attempted to take a similar shot with the S23 ultra following a tutorial as well and even tho I did get a good shot it was not as good and detailed as your iPhone shot
Really good and short explanation of the best and easiest way to get great results! 😁👍🏼 And Echuca! I visited Australia 30 years ago and visited a girl in Echuca and we went water skiing on the river (that Runs Wild if you your old enough to know what that means) 😂
💥💥💥💥Excellent and easy to understand tutorial. You demonstrated the fundamentals of learning the interface of any editing program. If you don't know what a slider does, move it all the way to the maximum and all the way to the minimum and you will learn how it affects the photograph. Thank you for explaining your workflow. I'll be using your methods from now on. Well explained, good Sir!! Bravo!
I just got the most amazing shots of the Northern Lights here in Minnesota last night. But the videos didn’t turn out well. How would you video them and get the incredible color that is in the photos?
There isnt one mate. You can capture multiple images with Even Longer and use the intervalometer on that app, but then you will need to put them into a video editor to create timelapse
At a bortle 4 region you could probably get closer to places with lower light pollution. Maybe check out a light pollution map online. I live at a bortle ~5 region and there were bortle 2-3 regions a couple hours away, maybe 1 hr 30 mins? But there was no light there since it was a campground, so it could’ve been bortle 1. The map is not always fully accurate/up to date I think but it’s a good place to start. Rural areas are good too.
@@jj-ij1kz the next bortle 3 region would be almost 3 hours away, and tbh I don’t really have the time to go there lately :(. But thank you for the tip!
@@Marian_K_ No problem, I think even in a bortle 4 area if you find a dark enough spot you can still take decent pictures since your camera picks up more than your eyes (especially with a good iPhone). My phone is a bit outdated (iPhone 12) and I was able to capture a bit of the Milky Way, but it was not a good quality picture since I can’t use the pro raw setting and I had no tripod. What phone do you have? Have you taken a picture yet? I would also recommend using an app called Sky Guide which shows you where the Milky Way is if you can’t see it. That way it would be easier to get a better picture.
@@jj-ij1kz Im still on the iPhone 11 lmao, so not really up to date either. When my phone contract runs out soon I will probably upgrade to the 15pro max. I’ve taken a lot of pictures of the sky and some of didn’t turn out that bad in my opinion, especially considering the age of my phone. I haven’t been able to capture the Milky Way though.. I would send you the pic that’s on my mind right now, but that isn’t possible on TH-cam lol. And I’m using SkyTonight, that should work too right ?
@@Marian_K_ The 15 pro max would be one of the best options out there for astrophotography with a phone I reckon. But make sure you enable the pro raw feature. Does the iPhone 11 have the night mode feature? SkyTonight should be good if it shows you where the Milky Way is in the night sky.
Aussie anytime you pull out of a driveway a car will come you can be down the loneliest bush track miles from nowhere about to take a pee & a car will come Noah's there out there
I'm convinced you have a magic touch for turning ordinary moments into extraordinary ones.
HAHA cheers legend
He definitely is a magician with a phone camera 🏴

I just discovered this awesome gentleman! He’s over-the-top, generous with his knowledge! So thankful! What a good person!
Cheers mate. Glad you find it helpful.
I can’t wait for some clear skies to get out and shoot with my 15 Pro Max
By far the best iPhone for these shots. Enjoy mate
Love the video mate. If I can get something from my iPhone like that, I will be buzzing. Many thanks 🙏🏻
Just awesome! I have an iPhone but had no idea it could shoot the MW like this. Fantastic work indeed.
You are a VERY lucky guy to live where you do!! Loving all the vids you’ve posted over the years! Keep up the excellent work!!!
Glad you like them!
Awesome video, cheers!
I live in New York, so too much light pollution for astrophotography here. But this was a great tutorial 🌌 👍🏼
Awesome mate. Great to see an Ausie giving down to earth advice. Glad I found you
Welcome aboard!
Love seeing the prep work, the planning and how it pays off well done buddy 🏴
Great video thank you. Do you think an iPhone model earlier than a 15 will work?
Definitely the vertical orientation follows the line of the windmill perfectly
100%
Great job as always Shayne. Can’t wait for some clear skies the eastern US.
Cheers mate, thanks for watching :)
This is so awesome. Going to Big Bend National Park with iPhone 15 pro max. Can’t wait to try it out.
Fantastic Video and informative will give it a go when we get some good weather in the Uk .
Great information and easy to understand! Wish I had that sky view!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@ShayneMostyn btw, my iphone 12 pro max gives me a totally black frame when placing the lens face down on my mouse pad.
The galaxy isn't moving, we are. Great video!

such a pretty photo and I'm learning lots from you
Very cool! Good job and beautiful photo! I love it !
Have you done a video on shooting an eclipse? We have a full one coming next month in the States
Great video. Really useful info well explained
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi! Love your videos, so informative. Will there be an Honor Magic V2 camera/night mode test by any chance? I am really curious.
Good recommendations thank you. Photo pill is great
You’re welcome 😊

Thank you very much! I did not know my phone is capable of this. Great tips and fantastic photo!
Wich iphone do you have ? I dont know wich one to buy to take astrophotography between 15 pro and 16 pro
I have both, I would get the 15ProMax.
What does the max add ?
Cheers Shayne great video again.
Glad you enjoyed it

Are you shooting Max RAW? I don’t remember if you said that in a prior video.
Great Video!
Thanks!
When will you try astrophotography with the S24 Ultra? Also the Xiaomi 14 Ultra would be very interesting!!
Send them to me and I will try them mate. I buy all of the phones I use. Need to make the tough calls sometimes.
Amazing. Is this possible with the base iphone 15?
Can i take photo's like that on iPhone 13? Not the pro model with 3 cameras

Broo, do you have Star timelapse tutorial for iphone 15 ?
Same as the older models mate. I have a few videos about it.
Is there a difference between the 15 pro and 15 pro max when it comes to astro photos?
I don’t know
No, its the same
Fantastic Shane, do you use just the free version of Lightroom?
No I use the paid one mate
@@ShayneMostyn thank you.

Just discovered your channel. Great info. New sub here.
Thanks so much for watching. Welcome aboard!
I think vertical works better. It gives a better perspective of how small the windmill is compared with the Milky Way
3:18 - are all of those moving objects passing satellites or are some of them shooting stars? In time lapse they all seem to be moving fast.
could be shooting stars, sats or more than likely, just airplanes :]
This is awesome. I just subscribed to you here and on facebook.
Thanks so much for watching. Welcome aboard!
bro plz give me video get in apple xs in astrophotogrphy
Then what is the phone setting to use for star ⭐️ photo taking
Its in the video mate
256 GB memeory. 48mp is my default for photos.
I expected to see you use the Even Longer app to set up a 15-20 second exposure. It looks like Night Mode is all you needed.
Night Mode is still the absolute best for this type of shot
Shayne, is there anyone you know who specializes on iPhone or phone portrait photography at the fashion, classic film like photography level?
We love Apple Music lossless quality and spatial audio surround sound.
I don’t have raw option on my iPhone 13 regular what do I do
ProRAW is only on the Pro phones
Thanks for the app suggestion (photo pills)
No problem!!
Nice one, thanks for sharing.

Which iPhone did you use???
Not sure for this one, its an older video. But any iPhone with night mode will do it.
Just remember this dude is in one of the darkest places on earth. Your results will not be this good….
There are more dark spots than there are light posts on earth. You just need to get away from the light pollution. I always talk about that.
Where is galaxy s24 astro photography
How you have 30 s I only have 1 s
If you go to the modes click on the night photo little icon and you can extend it
The default is 1sec but if your camera stays still and no light pollution present, iphone will automatically make it 30sec timer.
You have to put the phone on a tripod or keep it completely still and the 30 second option should appear
Mine is IP12pro, just use 0.5x and then slide Night turn to 30s
@@asdcomasdcomthat is bad, 0,5x worst camera. But with tripod you can get 30 sec
I need to find me a windmill I think
