- Quick how to on replacing the cutter sections (teeth) on a Ford 515 sickle bar mower. It should be a very similar approach for any riveted sickle bar section.
If you haven’t removed the knife section from the sickle bar yet then head to the video linked right below where I cover that: • Ford 515 Sickle Bar Mo...
The rivets I used are County Line #5-1/2 (0.211” dia.) x 9/16” long from Tractor Supply Company.
The cutter sections (teeth) are County Line Heavy Gauge Under Serrated Sections, also from Tractor Supply.
Please comment below if you have any requests for videos on other topics for this sickle bar mower, or if you just have something to say or ask!
Thank you for watching!!

Over setting your rivets can put your end sections out of time, and hammer shearing section rivets can arc the bar. I would suggest looking into a tool called a SICKLEFIX one ruined bar will pay for one.
Thank you! I will definitely check that out!
I had a flashback to when I was a kid and had to do this on our farm's swather. We had a tool that would set the rivets. So you'd need the tool and a ratchet. I think we used a hammer and chisel to take the head off and the tool had a piece on one side that would push the old rivet out of the hole
Very nice, I've seen a few of those two sided rivet tools. If I ever see a good deal on one I'll like pick it up. Thanks for commenting!
Using the correct side of the hammer would certainly help
Should I be using the opposite side? Thanks
It would only take a couple of strikes to have it set. You don'tneed a round shape to it.
@@SSouthcombe thanks! I'll give that a go next time
Great video. Would heating the rivet help at all or not worth the time?
Hmm not sure, they're pretty soft. Maybe I'll give it a try next time and see if it makes a noticeable difference!
I noticed some of the inset teeth have screws instead of rivets. Where the screws a past fix ??
They must have been, this rivets are formed so nice I'm guessing original? Or someone with a proper tool to form them. Also the screwed on sections are all at the end if I recall correctly, so guess someone hit something in the past. They sell screws so you don't need to use rivets. They were sold out last year so I'll probably just use rivets since I have the big pack.
@@Buttons_fix_it ONE great thing about rivets is when installed correctly they will never fail. That is a fact from the days of old. Good day vf
Hi.
Under serrated, or over serrated? Which is better? Somebody say this, somebody say that.
You are exactly correct that there are many opinions. I don't have enough experience to recommend one over the other. Even with my sickle bar so many minor adjustments change how it cuts (height, speed). Thanks for commenting and good luck!
