The engineers were almost certainly adhering to a top-down philosophy of "no right to repair" adopted by the execs. This horseshit is by design - it's not stupidity and it's not accidental. It's a deliberate push to make easy fixes challenging.
@@bigt1877I have more than 5 brain cells but these are not tools I have in my tool box. Why make it so difficult? My last vacuum you just unscrewed the bottom few screws and it popped right off so you could change the belt or clean the brushes. This is by far the hardest vacuum to take the bottom off I’ve ever had. And please don’t insult me.
@@bigt1877I’m mechanically inclined, have the tools which is actually a T-20, but they decided to put a nub in the center which requires a special tool. I got the screws out, but the center didn’t get put back in. They could have simply used a Phillips screw which they do in other places, so that tells you it was done to deter people from working on it.
Thanks for creating and publishing this video. Your explanations were direct and easy to follow, as was the video. You've helped s save $$$$. Thank you.
Quick, precise, and sweet. As all these designs should be. Never another Shark product. A$$hiked always trying to make right to repair so damn annoying. Thank you farmers for making the laws happen 😂
Nice video, well done. maybe add, cleaning out the top where the dirt flies thru the little hose, if that's possible, but I haven't taken out the 10 screws yet! thanks for the video!
Thanks! Especially for including the link. You saved me from having to buy a completely new vacuum. I'm a bone head and did lots of damage with regular screwdrivers
Thanks for this-- my model was a little bit different (it used T20 screwdrivers) but the basic process was the same and now the vacuum is working much better.
These things are designed the same as fans. They don’t want you take it apart and perform maintenance or service, they want you to buy a new one. I remember when some of these vacuums had like 4 screws max or even clips you just had to undue to remove the bottom cover
FOR SOME MODELS - THE BRUSH WILL NOT OPERATE IN AN UPRIGHT POSITION. Shark navigator 350-353 series - if you have cleaned the roller and it doesn't work, TILT THE HANDLE BACK then try.
THANK YOU!!!! I have an almost brand new shark and couldn't understand why the roller head wasn't moving. I was ready to go buy all the tools and take everything apart. This was such a huge help!
I have model NV360 31. All my star screws are t20. Only problem is when i put it back together, as soon as i leaned it back for the brush part to work. It would start and then stop after just a few seconds. I'm guessing I'm missing a step? Note: the vacuum stays on and the suction works. Only stops when i use brush
Thanks, Paul. The brush roll spins such that it assists forward motion of the vacuum cleaner. If you were standing behind the unit then moved to the right of the vacuum, the roll would rotate clockwise
Love this vac but BUT getting the screws out was a nightmare as they are weird kind so need a special tool…dirt gets in with the screws so everything had to be scraped out of screw holes to get to the damn screws. It took two hours and half a bottle of wine to get through this fiasco😝😝😝😝😝🍷🍷🍷
Thank you I think now I can fix mines after I accidentally vacuumed fishing line and my roller Jam even after I cut the line from underneath but it still won’t suck but now I’ll try this and open it
Hair clogged the brush roll, went to replace and the plastic contact square broke off on the non motor side, any ideas how to get that out? no matter how hard I pull with plyers it's not moving.
I just got the special tools and unscrewed everything but I can’t get the cover off or open. I have a Shark lift away emerald green. Not sure what to do now?
Sometimes, after the hardware is removed, the two sections remain stuck together by friction. Have you tried separating them by applying relatively light force? Might also try gently shaking/wiggling. It's also possible the design has been modified and there's some additional hardware. If you upload a photo of the underside of the unit, I can take a look at it.
Whoever designed this vacuum cleaner is a jerk. Not only is it complicated to clean and maintain, but in order to replace the roller brush I had to special order a specific screwdriver which I will never ever use for anything else and I only found out it's called a T20 after reading through the comments on this video (thanks @peemster9978).
Thank u very much i was baffled on why it wouldnt come apart, till i seen the screws under the roller wheel in your video, it helped me alot
they made a brush roller to be used then made it extremely hard for the brush roller to be cleaned. good logic
The engineers behind this should be ashamed of themselves. This should be much easier to remove and service. Absolutely ridiculous.

It’s not that hard if you have 5 minutes and 5 brain cells

@@monicabriscoe4401 exactly I don't have that torq bit. And the screws have a pin in the middle

Thanks for this video! I would never had guessed the screws were under the little wheels on the front!

just found one in the dumpster, seems to work just clogged up with hair big time. this video helps alot thank you
Thank you! This is one of the best How-to videos I've watched.

Very helpful. My model didn't require the star bits, it had philips head screws.

Thank you as I had trouble finding the screws behind the wheels. Your the best !
Thanks for this-- my model was a little bit different (it used T20 screwdrivers) but the basic process was the same and now the vacuum is working much better.
Mine also had T20s (model NV360). No more streaking brushroll!
Thanks for the link i just purchased the set . I messed up my mons shark vacume and need to fix it now
THANKS A LOT. We couldn't find the screws under the weeks.
Thanks so much for this. Very clear and helpful.

Thanks for the video to open up. So, roller is not spinning is replacing roller is the key? No belt or belt motor problem?
Excellent informative video .
Replacing this roller made me hate Shark. Something like this should be a 1 minute repair.

Excellent how-to video. Hopefully someday they are all this concise. Which direction does the brush roll spin?

Going to try this!! Thanks
Nice video, thank you. Shark sucks for choosing non standard fasteners. Fail.

The center screw in mine doesn't want to come out. It loosens by like, a quarter turn but then it won't go any further.
Thank you saved me some money buddy.

Thank you very help full!!
When I vaccum my brush roll stop and dont run after I empty the hose and canister how to stop it?
Thank you!
THANK YOUUUUU!!!!

@@totrand Thanks. I actually missed a screw.
Both motors are running but very little suction. The belt was fine as well as the roller bar.
Thankyou👍🏾
Where is the link to tools
In the box underneath the video. You might have to click on the text that says "MORE" in order to see it.
Ridiculous that average home owner will need to order special tools to fix or simply clean the brush. Disappointed in this design Shark
Mine had all Phillips head screws 🤷♂️
good god, it's time to get a new one lol
Coo thanks
Why. Torx security screws. REALLY your shitting me.
This is why I paid an extra $200 for a Dyson..much easier to remove roller
really frustrating you have to buy security bits for this
No way I’m doing that!
😂
