Great video! I had missed the screws under the wheels, so I couldn't remove the brush roll until I watched this. Less than a week later, the replacement roll arrived, the Shark is reassembled, and it works fine. You've saved a Shark's life. Can't thank you enough!

This is the best video online!! So many show you how to take it apart without giving you step by step reassembly instructions. Very detailed. Thank you so much ❤

I don't ever comment but I had too for your video. I just want to say thank you for your step by step problem shooting video. I was able to diagnose my Shark in a manageable amount of time. I not just diagnosed but I was also able to fix the issue. I went and sent as arched on many different videos and NONE were as instructive and informative as yours. Thank you very much!!!!😁

Thank you! I ordered the tools from your link and was able to discover that hair had wrapped around the swivel in my vacuum which caused the brush to stop. Annoying screws! Thanks for the video!

Thank you for the video. I have long hair and so does my daughter... it’s always wrapped around the roller! I’ve always been able to maintain my other vacuums in the past, but they weren’t Sharks. I was overlooking a couple screws. Again, thank you for the video!

Thank you! I had to take it apart twice because as you clearly explained, don't pinch those wires, tuck them in by the curve! I pinched them the 1st time & the roller stopped (again). I think it was semi-pinched in the 1st place, now works fab after I pulled out the original problem, some random piece of plastic that got sucked in! Without your instruction, I would have had to go to the repair shop!

You can buy a torx bit at any hardware store and you pop the wheels out with a flat blade screwdriver, not Phillips. Some times that little cutoff switch that causes the roll to stop when you set it up straight goes bad. You can bypass it by cutting the wires and splicing them together. You'll just have to turn the roll on and off at the main power switch.

@ Vacuum Wars-- Thank you for posting the series of vids that related to repairing the Shark Navigator Vacuum. Because of your kindness shown to others, I was able to get our vacuum running in top form again! For months our Shark Vac It had not been working well, and a few weeks ago the rotating brush up + quit spinning at all. After watching your little series of content, I was inspired to tear down our Shark and since the belt was not broken like i thought, I put my efforts into the brush, PCB, central switch, as well as the small motor and the semi-plugged up hoses.... The unit now works great because of the inspiration I got from you!! You have earned yourself a new Subscriber AND my gratitude!!

well done video. In reality, good luck finding a brush motor. Shark would rather not sell spare parts - buy a new Shark instead is their preference. Best bet is to take your vacuum to a local vacuum repair business that offers free estimates. They generally will provide the customer with realistic options.

I have a Shark Navigator almost exactly like yours. But mine is missing the white plastic brush roll part on the left side (9:53...without the groove, on non-belt side). How do I get that part? Also, my brush roll needs to be lubed as one side turns freely while the other side is hard to turn. How does one take apart the brush roll to get all the hair and dirt out and lube it? I tried hammer and chiseling the spool out like I did on my Bissells. But it did not work.

Ours had "15" screws that needed to be removed just to get to the rotator brush, 2 different sizes of Philips head and 11 of the odd star bits, A royal pain to take apart just to remove something stuck in the roller and things get stuck in rollers all of the time. Also wire guides and a spring all fell out when the brush head was finally able to be opened. Clearly this unit was not designed for normal maintenance. We spent a lot of money on it but will probably just take it to the dump. We'll but a new vacuum but it won't be a Shark.

I was having trouble, too. Watch the part about getting the motor in just right. (The way it fits in there isn't the greatest design IMHO). And make sure the wires aren't getting pinched and feeling the parts apart.
Also, it helped to see how he had it laid out so that getting the beater brush cover on didn't require two people.

So I followed the link listed here to the Titan tool on Amazon. FYI The link is for the correct star bit tool.....but not long enough to reach some of those deep screws. You need a driver extension that is width or smaller of a pencil & buy the tamper proof star bits seperate (T-15, T-20)

Hello, my roller brush in my unit has stopped spinning. after poking around a bit, I’ve discovered I’m only getting 10 volts at the bottom of the vacuum base (where the brush roller assembly attaches to the main body of the unit) I’m no electrician, but it seems to me that the brush roll switch (on the main unit) is bad based on what I am seeing, a DC 120v motor and only 10 volts are making it to the roller head. Is this correct? I pulled the hinge switch from the base and connected the two leads as to bypass said switch, with no change in operation.

Thanks for this. I'll never buy another Shark again. I can't believe how hard it is to remove the bottom, which you always need to do on vacs. I missed the two screws by the back wheels. I did remember they put two screws under the front wheels. Now, they made it even harder by requiring a "special" tool. Why would they do this. Who is in charge of their design team?
