I like the idea, but i can't help thinking you need stronger springs, and probably ones that are shorter in general so you can draw back further and pack more power in the shot.
@@joshlower1 These limbs don't store energy so that would just increase the inertia of the system at no benefit. That inertia needs to be overcome using energy used to draw the bow and that energy should instead be used to accelerate the arrow.
@@Neopolitan_Illusion For the bow to release and allow the arrow to travel a good amount of distance, there needs to be a mechanism on the bow itself that allows it to stretch or flex. Here, a spring is used for tension. Normal bows without springs have a compliant mechanism meaning that the structure itself allows it to flex, which grants the string more tension to release the arrow. This metal bow would not be able to flex without the springs since the structure of the bow does not allow it to bend, due to the fact that the metal parts of the bike wheel are joined together with screws.
Put the springs on the outside of the bow, all the way to the ends of the outer arms. Half-extend them before stringing. You'll get a longer draw and more power, with a tighter resting position. Just make sure to use decent springs because otherwise they'll just end up set as they are and lose power. Needs high-elasticity material.

@@user-hx2hp2ue4x да похуй, для баловства ребёнка и обычной измерительной ленты хватит. Вам тут не надо соблюдать идеальные геометрические показатели, упругость метала и жёсткость пружины. Из такого говна путний лук не сделать. Из него даже стрельба по правильной технике не возможна. А баловаться ребёнку и такой пойдёт)

Not a replacement for an actual bow, but a cool idea. Very innovative. Neat to look at. Long term durability, noise when shooting, and repair in the field would be problems. Ingenious though.

Самый простой и надёжный в моём детстве (90-е) Вяз или дуб длиной 1,2-1,4 метра дед замачивал в соляном растворе на доске с приданием изначальной формы. Стрелы - болотная трава "черет" в наконечнике гвоздь 70 примерно, с конусной насадкой из простой консервной банки. Тетиву леской 1.0 делал, стрела реально на 300-400 метров улетала. Смотря на вышеопубликованное - Хочется автора послать на канал "Доктор Дью" - там похожих самоделок и лайфхаков преподносят пачками, хорошо, что с юмором. Радует, только то, что наше детство прошло без интернета!

Your draw length needs to be further back and it would be more accurate, more powerful, faster, and more comfortable. It’s essentially a compound bow with recurve attributes. It’s a fantastic idea and I’m only trying to give you advice. I make recurve bows and also bow hunt a lot.
Nice idea! If I have to guess this is a 15 lbs draw fun bow not capable to shoot through a plastic water bottle. Stronger springs and the party would be on.

I was always curious about this design, this video answers my question, it looks cool, still classic bow more durable in long run (that springs will rust, make too much noise in hunting, need more power/effort to use etc) but seriously it looks badass, love to have a carbon-fiber version myself whit laser pointer just for LOL's.. when u hunt, u have just one shot! miss and your prey is gone! if the springs are painted or powder-coated springs, they might endure a lifetime! With such a bow you can also hunt fish... people always think u need to shoot 50-80 yards or more...
@@givemeanameman1 just use thicker spring like ones from frame of MTB. Plus don't put a string on it without tension ( I'd personally make arms still pivot but aided by spring since that would be far easier to string)

If you don't have a archery store near you, find braided fishing line same material as the former. Preferably around 0.50mm or 0.021 in, should already be rated above 60lbs.

Actually if he ran paracord along the reverse side of the bow tight, it would stop the bending of the aluminum and reinforce it... much how Greek trireme had a central tension rope that connected the bow and stern.

So, a hardware store components toy shaped like a bow. Using modern electric tools, prefabbed aluminum, nuts+bolts and store bought springs you "created" a "bow" that can barely withstand 10lbs of pulling force with no sights and proven inability pierce a thin plastic bottle at 5 ft using a store bought modern arrow. 5000 years ago, craftsman could make a 10x stouter bow that could pierce woolly rhino skulls at 80 yards created using basic wood carving hand tools and actual wood. 100 years ago John Moses Browning could make a 1911 semiauto out of a handmill. 80 years ago a crippled peasant created the symbolic AK using a pick and sheet metal. But today, this is what we are left with. I'd be impressed if u used simple tools to make something advanced and useful vs using advanced tools to make something that will break if u use it twice. Just sayin.
I think you may have missed the point that this design is simplistic and builds quickly. Yes plenty of improvements to be made design and material-wise. A hacksaw would have done the job of the angle grinder and it would have taken just a bit more time. You are making faulty comparisons of historical iconic inventions that required incredible amounts of time and know-how with this junk made weapon.

I agree, the pivot point wil probably colapse, especially if we're to increase the spring tension. I like the simple concept tho, leaves room for creative modification.

@@ericsmith4513 depends on the make of the alloy, aluminum can be soft or as rigid/strong. All aluminum bicycle rims do have their breaking point from enough force. And any metal can fatigue. That's why most bike wheels get warped with enough damage. It's tough, but not indestructible. Over time, an aluminum bow will also give way - the question is "how long" before it breaks. Bows are made to a different set of standards/tolerances depending on the amount of draw weight it can do - and it's different for every user. A 70 pound draw weight would shorten the lifespan an DIY bow made out of an aluminum bicycle wheel considerably.

Very cool design, these videos need stats though to make them more interesting, draw weight, FPS, longevity for materials etc, these things would make the video more effective for you and us cos of the feedback for improvement ideas from established bowmen and women. From me, I would baffle those springs somehow.

I think the bow would actually work when you use a shorter string and put the springs already in tension before you draw.

I agree shorter strain shorter more tense springs would be a more effective idea but for a starter bow quite effective

Ролик был-бы в разы ценнее, если-бы были даны рекомендуемые размеры для обеспечения оптимальной геометрии. Да и характеристики пружин не помешали бы.

If the springs were thicker and kept under tension they wouldn't make much noise at all(you would need string silences like any string)

That's because its not depending on the bike piece at all for the draw weight. Only the spring.

Как владелец лука скажу - на видео херня. Скорость стрелы никакущая, энергетика тоже. Направляющей для стрелы нет, хер попадёшь. Мусор, короче.

Using modern electric tools, prefabbed aluminum, nuts+bolts and store bought springs you "created" a "bow" that can barely withstand 10lbs of pulling force with no sights and proven inability pierce a thin plastic bottle at 5 ft using a store bought modern arrow.
5000 years ago, craftsman could make a 10x stouter bow that could pierce woolly rhino skulls at 80 yards created using basic wood carving hand tools and actual wood.
100 years ago John Moses Browning could make a 1911 semiauto out of a handmill.
80 years ago a crippled peasant created the symbolic AK using a pick and sheet metal.
But today, this is what we are left with.
I'd be impressed if u used simple tools to make something advanced and useful vs using advanced tools to make something that will break if u use it twice. Just sayin.

I think you may have missed the point that this design is simplistic and builds quickly. Yes plenty of improvements to be made design and material-wise. A hacksaw would have done the job of the angle grinder and it would have taken just a bit more time.
You are making faulty comparisons of historical iconic inventions that required incredible amounts of time and know-how with this junk made weapon.

@@tacuska7 I don't see anything about the intent of the bow being for post alpacalisp, although i know from experience that springs, bike rims, and nuts and bolts are so ubiquitous I can't imagine them being difficult to scavenge from just about anywhere near a city or town or land fill.

I would fear the limbs will break.Aluminum over stretched is questionable.
It's elastic limit likely isn't even approached with this bow and with the assist offered by the springs I imagine it is safe
I agree, the pivot point wil probably colapse, especially if we're to increase the spring tension. I like the simple concept tho, leaves room for creative modification.
The aluminum limbs do not stretch. Until he added the springs all I could think is there is no way this would work. Using paracord show lack of knowledge of the materials used.

Идея не плохая. Но натяжка для взрослого человека очень слабая. Тетива сильно расслаблена и пружины можно взять покороче этих.
Но если лук делался для ребёнка тогда пойму.

@@ericsmith4513 depends on the make of the alloy, aluminum can be soft or as rigid/strong. All aluminum bicycle rims do have their breaking point from enough force. And any metal can fatigue. That's why most bike wheels get warped with enough damage. It's tough, but not indestructible. Over time, an aluminum bow will also give way - the question is "how long" before it breaks. Bows are made to a different set of standards/tolerances depending on the amount of draw weight it can do - and it's different for every user. A 70 pound draw weight would shorten the lifespan an DIY bow made out of an aluminum bicycle wheel considerably.

- integrity of the bow given the spoke holes. Do these require reinforcements
- weight and gauge of the springs
- length of bowstring

Very cool design, these videos need stats though to make them more interesting, draw weight, FPS, longevity for materials etc, these things would make the video more effective for you and us cos of the feedback for improvement ideas from established bowmen and women. From me, I would baffle those springs somehow.
