    I bought one of these after watching this video over a year ago. Today I'm taking my gopros and airplanes to the field. Hopefully I can record something worth posting. Thanks for the good videos.

    Just bought two of these, second-hand, one almost new. I had no idea what I was buying but delighted that I've got something that pilots appear to enjoy. My rc starts as soon as the rest arrives...

      It's a blast to fly, but keep an eye out for el-chepo servos. If you upgrade anything, go for metal gear 9 gram servos for elevator and rudder, then she'll be pretty good :)
      Good luck!!!

    Awesome job on the plane Brian. I haven't watched it all yet but picked up lots of great tips so far. Thanks again for doing this build series.
    The only problem I've ever had with mine is when I trimmed in to much up elevator in flight. On my next launch it went vertical and stalled. So I always check my elevator is level now before launch.
    If you have the CG right then you don't need much uptrim. Of course I mainly slope soar so can get away with a small battery for good CG. 1500 3 cell at the moment. I have a 1300 I'm going to try next. This is for reference for anyone reading this by the way. I know you already have experience with this plane.
    I'm going to go and paint my prop white now. Looks great.

      I'm glad you're getting some use out of the series. I really like the ASW28, and will have a better chance to get some very manageable bugs worked out before too long, but I have a new project coming (Thursday???)...and it's gonna be SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET
      ...that's right, 1.25 lines of sweet!

    The model has been sold for years with the same two design flaws, but they are very easy to correct.
    1. Glue 30 g of lead on the end of the fuselage and the vertical stabilizer, which is very easy in the hull without being seen from the outside.
    2. The EWD is improper and needs to be raised to place the stabilizer on the back edge with 0.8 to 1 mm thick paper.
    3. With a 3S 1500 mAh battery or with 2 3S 1500 mAh batteries connected in parallel, it is now possible to fly without changing the center of gravity. The second battery is simply pushed exactly between the wings, focusing on the upper board, which guarantees a minimum flight time of 25 minutes and almost always with a low thermal of at least 35 minutes - do not worry, the battery will not slip during the flight!
    After the correction you will get a superbly flying model that can compete with much more expensive models as it is usually lighter.
    The model is also suitable for easy aerobatics and although the surfaces sag unbelievably, I have not yet managed to destroy it in the air. I'm thinking about making the wings shiny, but this is definitely not necessary and colorful so I can see the model better.

    Hi Brian, ArxangelRC has reported that on his ASW28 there was not enough epoxy between the fin and the plastic horizontal stab mount, and the fin and the plastic piece that is fixed to the fuselage. Happily the failures happened on landing, but he also had a camera on the fin which increased the mass and the stress to the tailpieces. Keep up the good work. Cheers.

    Great demo! I may order this glider but will be my first with flaps. Did you require flap with elevator mixing? My guess is that flaps will make the plane pitch down?.? Thanks.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Honestly, I don't think it was a huge issue. This can be easily tested with flaps deployed and elevator mixed to like 5% and 10% and then adjust accordingly after the maiden. Every radio system will be a little bit different for this mix, but I usually get pretty crazy with my mixing on these planes where I use CROW....sometimes overkill to be honest ;)
      I have setup videos for this and many of my planes. Just check the playlists and look for the plane you're interested in, and you can watch my radio setup ;) I hope you will!

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you want to setup CROW, then you'll need to do this...
      Set up the inboard flaps as flaps, then the ailerons as flapperons...you will need THREE or FOUR channels to do it. When the flaps are deployed, you'll setup spoilerons to deploy (both ailerons UP). You will want to tie in extra rudder to aileron mix so that as you attempt to roll the plane, the rudder will help make up for the reduced controls as you increase the CROW...
      You can check out how I did it on my DX18, but not sure it's going to be helpful enough for you given you're not using Spektrum gear...

      @@BrianPhillipsRC Sorry Brian, it was my attempt at humour, dry UK humour at that, hence the wink. It certainly wasn't meant to offend. I was just trying to imagine your wifes reactions to your running commentary of each manoeuver - How many other wives have a concept of 'Full Crow' :D I also fly the ASW28, Radian XL, Top Model Albatross and the Top Model 3.75m Discus, not quite to your flying standard as I'm a Quadriplegic flying from a wheelchair and only a left hand. I'm limited to the type of manoeuvers I can perform but for each model I add differing values of Rudder mix. I miss Stall Turns and flat Turns when I want to kick the tail around. My biggest issue is keeping line of sight and not letting the Model get behind me. I employ someone to stand beside me and instruct him to turn my electric chair to keep me pointing at the aircraft at all times. It can be a bit hectic if the model is close to me and I'm making quick passes :) Any ideas how I can improve my flying much appreciated. Again, apologies if I caused offense. This is a picture of me flying the Radian, just seen in the distance, in our long hot UK Summer of 2018. Hope to get some more this Friday, our first serious flying day of 2019, with weather forecast of 63F. facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10213795501221750&set=pb.1233456598.-2207520000.1550746875.&type=3&theater

      I'm sorry that totally misunderstood your comments and thanks for the explanation :)
      After re-reading your comments, it's me that should be apologizing! Sorry about that!!!
      Thanks for the explanation of your situation. It's awesome that you can fly with one hand, and limited turning capabilities. This has gotta be way harder than you make it sound!!!
      So I have a crazy idea, that's probably a lot harder to implement that I think...but how much mobility do you have in your neck and mouth?

      @@BrianPhillipsRC Biting on things isn't a problem, but turning my head is, due to the extensive surgery on my neck. I probably can turn my head around 75º to the left but only 50º to the right. This is why I have to be real careful about letting the aircraft get too close to me otherwise I lose sight of it pretty quickly! Had a quick flight yesterday but it was too cold for my hand to function at optimum, so I used my brain this time and called it quits rather than return home with with the model in pieces. So, any ideas you have Brian, gratefully accepted bud :) This was a pic of me with Rainbow Radian pre-flight - facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10214754416514033&set=a.10200424527875773&type=3&theater

      I was wondering if you could use your neck and/or mouth for throttle and rudder, then have a second control, the regular, unmodified DX18 for example, in your left (good) hand. You could use a "trainer" control setup for the neck/chin one... This configuration would have to be a "one off", but with your asymmetry on neck movement, I bet you could just mix this out of the YAW axis, and simply add ample EXPO to eliminate imprecise movements. I suspect throttle would be the "axis" of least concern.
      I wonder if you could support it on your shoulder, this contraption, then use your chin or mouth (whichever reached better) to make the movements.
      These type of problems get me thinking (over-thinking would be more precise - LOL).
      I hope my disjointed thoughts are painting the picture I have in mind, but I fear that my vision may be lost... If our roles were reversed, I'd want to have "two hand" type controls by just about any means possible, but maybe this isn't super important for your enjoyment. I know you said you miss doing rudder turns, but you could also just mix in a slider on a DX9-DX18, and you would be able to at least cheat some level of control into that slider...
      P.S. If my attempts at brainstorming a possible solution to your problem are irritating, uninvited, or just unnecessary, please stop me before I make too much a jerk of myself ;)
