Alas the shutter in my E-5 died. It came right apart. Try as I might I just couldn't get anyone to repair it. I sold off almost everything. I have an E-3 and a 14 to 54 mm lens left. I bought an OMD EM-1 MK 2 a 12 to 40 mm, 40 t0 150mm and a 2x converter. It's all so much smaller but I miss the F-2 lenses a lot We will be making a video about the switch in a week or so. Right now we are making a planning video for this year. Thanks for watching. I hope you will enjoy some of our other videos like Driving the Dempster, or Haynes Alaska. Olympus E5 is by far my favorite camera to shoot with. I wish I could adjust the ISO speed to let in more light when shooting video, but other than that, awesome quality. Now that's it's not the latest and greatest system, lenses have gone down in price. Just because a lens is old doesn't mean it can't take incredible photographs. Some images I see taken with old mf Minolta glass were impressive.
Years ago, I shot with a used Olympus e500 with a 50mm macro lens and the kit lens. That's all I could afford at the time. But I felt so creative with my e500 and macro lens. I would bring prints to my local photographer club, 40-70 year olds, and I would say what I took the picture with. They were always shocked from the quality of the images.

i still have my OM1... OM2n, and OM4... then i got the E500 (that was a learning curve) i currently run a 600 and a 620, or an E3 and E5... i use Metz 45ct4 flash heads, and a large collection of Olympus Glass... i shoot a lot of weddings, and blah blah blah... i set F22, at 100asa on Aperture priority... and meter for moonlight... Adams used a wooden tripod with 10x8 glass negs, his exposure times were in minutes at F64... @@bellasvistas3463 This is the testimony of Doug Janis, at DPReview forums with some insides of the JIP aquisition:
      "JIP is worth US$150 million.
YoY Olympus Imaging (its camera wing) is losing US$156 million.
JIP specializes in taking under-performing assets and parsing them out. They are not a turnaround company. In Japan, it's extremely expensive to downsize employees and pensions and salaries. So companies like JIP
exist to take assets and sell them apart from those obligations.
In the last 5 years JIP has sold off assets of over 14 companies. Not one has it ever restructured or continued development. It doesn’t have the capital. JIP exists solely to manage brands for the benefit of shared agreements with shareholders. That’s why VAIO is 10% owned by Sony and why JIP outsources all design and manufacture to Chinese parts bin suppliers for components. JIP has no R&D, no internal development,
no engineers, nothing. They are accountants.
They are a vulture fund of privately owned equity partners designed to get around Japanese pension, retention, and servicing laws.
This is very bad news for the Olympus brand and its invested customers. The Japanese news is all over this as well because JIP is notorious for Chinese outsourcing at a time when it's official domestic policy to onshore key industries. This is another example of Olympus having a tin ear.
In Japan apparently most external sales staff (non-Japanese) have been let go. This started months ago. Most of the software, design, and optical engineers have left or are moving to medical imaging. Overseas assembly plants are being quietly shopped for real estate value alone. The glazing kilns are shutting down for consumer Imaging. The company is preparing to only sell from inventory. New products are technically on hold until Olympus figures out how much to pay JIP to take these losses off their hands. Olympus Visionaries in some countries have already been told they must stick to NDAs and there is no marketing budget nor equipment available.
That’s right. The news out of Japan is that this is NOT a sale, but a divestment at loss. Olympus will have to pay JIP to take Imaging, basically giving them the consumer patent portfolio in exchange. The reason for the press release is Olympus has to divulge now that it will be paying cash for JIP to take the assets. That warns shareholders. This was NOT about the loyal consumer. Anyone who thinks this is a deep pockets investor seeking a new product line, or this is an “under new management” improvement needs to know exactly what JIP is as a company. They exist to help Olympus get rid of their consumer Imaging portfolio entirely.
This is likely the end of Olympus and Zuiko. The Japanese inside information is much more revealing than the
web-based stories in English media. You have to go to the accounting and engineering boards in Japan to hear the dirt."
      - I think it's the end of the m4/3. I sincerely hope I am wrong.

@@DigitalNegative I kept using them for a while. I bought an aftermarket adapter and found it a little loose and insecure. One day the body popped off of the lens mount, I had the 150MM f-2.0 on a shoulder strap. I caught the body mid air. I went on to buy, the 7-14 MM F2.8 one stop faster and lighter than the old version, )I think the older one was more distortion corrected), the 12 to 40 mm F-2.8. the 14 to 150 MM 2.8, and the 300MMf4.0. I also got a MC20 2x. Lately a friend sold me a used 60MM 2.8 Macro. I have been havng lots of fun and getting great results. Thanks for your interest. th-cam.com/video/Kh9nCAqj1jg/w-d-xo.html

Pooh. Interesting nonetheless. I found the Panasonic Lumix adapter to be the most secure and robust, even if it doesn't have the gasket. It's called the DMW-MA1 and holds my 7-14 F4 (original 4/3rds lens) with no slop.

@@DigitalNegative I'm very happy 😊 with the new gear. The 300mm and the mc20 get me twice as close. Still it's never close enough . I got a couple Snowy Owls and 2 Hawks from a distance this morning.

So I think I found one I believe with a 17 millimeter lens I could be wrong on that but either way is it worth messing around with I've heard comparisons to the sigma Quattro sensor has anybody tried doing MicroSD into SD into to compact flash adapter

Those are some great lenses at f2 but you’re forgetting to multiply the aperture by the crop factor as well so you’re getting closer to an f4. I shoot 4/3 too and theirs no way around this.

I'm on board with using the older gear but let's not gloss over the fact you need to apply that crop factor to the aperture too. There's no free lunch in photography so you're not getting a 300mm f2.8 lens in 35mm terms. And you certainly aren't getting a 600mm f4.

I was under the impression that the F number is arrived at by dividing the lens diameter at the prime nodal point by the focal length. F=I/D. Perhaps I was misinformed by my College Physics Teacher. I have the Leica 50mm Noctilux. I assumed that the Diameter was 50 mm for an F number of 1.0.

@@bellasvistas3463 I teach college photography so let's get real. Yes f/2.8 is f/2.8 BUT the effect on your images isn't the same. Smartphones have apertures listed as f/1.8 but no one is expecting bokeh wide open.

    • @mikerichardson60
      @mikerichardson60 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@bellasvistas3463 it changes the way images are rendered. That's the important factor. A 300mm f/2.8 renders quite differently on a FF body as opposed to a 4/3 body. That's sort of the whole point isn't it? The image you create. As I stated smartphones routinely have very fast aperture numbers but that doesn't mean you'll be isolating any subjects with one.

@@bellasvistas3463 it does NOT change the amount of light coming into the lens… it will however affect the depth of field and “bokeh” you will get wide open due to the smaller plane of the sensor.
