The Olfa's cardboard issue is because there's not the same amount of the sharp side of the blade out. The Tajima have twice the blade length which is not fair because you can cut at twice the angle. Sharpness is also related to angle of cut and speed. The tooth on the back of the Tajima is not a safe blade but a tool to push carpet on a corner prior th cut it. Actually you're mostly testing the blades, not the cutter itself, while blades are interchangeable, so... It would have been interesting to compare how long can the blade can go out, the resistance of the blade outputguides, and the play on the blade on both models.

Interesting...I have a Tajima Caulk gun that is phenomenal - definitely a few steps above what you can get at the big box stores. Nice video!

Probably one of the reasons why OLFA didn't add extra features to their 25mm knives was to avoid making the knives too big and too heavy.
I have an OLFA OL 18mm knife with an extended blade channel and a metal pick on the back of the handle which looks quite similar to a 25mm Tajima knife but OLFA has been making OLFA OL since 1975 long before Tajima but OLFA still haven't made the 25mm version.

@@kj3472 I thought you were telling me that OLFA makes a 25mm version of the "OLFA OL" because if I'm not mistaken OLFA has been making regular 25mm knives since 1988.
Some OLFA products are hard to find in local stores, but if where you live there is a shop that sells Japanese tools, usually they will also provide OLFA products.

The Tajima seems to be a nicer knife. I like the bigger supportive cutting surface. The back fin cutter/ box opener seem like a great addition.

I've been using Olfa for 35 year's. I haven't found a better utility knife. I would like to see a comparison with a high quality German utility knife vs the Olfa. Thank's!

For cutting off a piece of the blade, i don't use a plier.
    Using:
    1.) Olfa ARDC-5
    or
    2. ) Tajima Disposal Case TAJ-10732
It's saver than using a plier.
    EDIT
In Germany the Tajima DFC671 25 mm ist not / black / red, it's black / white.

Snap-off blade cutters versus rigid blade utility knives. I wonder if you'll develop a preference for one over the other....down the road. I'm kinda partial to the snap-off types .... largely due to being exposed to them all my life.

I shop at Fasteners as well in San jose. Love that store!! It's the opposite of Harbor Freight w/ all high-end name brands at very reasonable prices. I know their Tajima section & considered it over Olfa but Made in China means NO SALE to me if I can avoid it. It's hard to do these days w/ even lumber ship there & returned to us!! I want Japanese tools made in Japan, German tools made in Germany (why I dont buy Wiha unless German made), & American tools made here. I'm willing to pay a lot more for quality & the jobs they provide in their respective countries. We need to stop this madness!! It's bad for us, for the environment, & for the world at large. I know "American" companies will say that their products r made to their exacting standards in China but it often not the case, take Craftsman & Vice-Grip. Junk.

Just because it comes from China does not automatically make it a poor product. Take for example Milwaukee tools, they are manufactured in China but they're quality and performance is top tier. Regardless of where they are built, companies set standards to meet and Milwaukee sets them high.

It's abit strange how the catalog shows all blades are SK120 (SK2 steel) shouldn't the hard series be SK4 or SK5 steel?

  • @Aepek
    @Aepek 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Daily is the Olfa MXP-AL right now for snap off blades(but kinda miss the round knob for adjusting the blade; as I believe able to get better adjustments with the knob than without, imo). For non-snap off, my go to is the Alltrade squeeze auto loading utility knife (think model is model 150003, as the paint & numbers/markings are gone from use). Have had one for about 25 yrs that’s beat up but still going 💪🏼
Also, isn’t just FUN to checkout a knife catalog....something that isn’t common much anymore; but cool when get one.
See ya on next one, ✌🏼

Did you say Sac fastener as in Sacramento?
I have recently become a fan of the 18mm olfa knife for doing drywall. What could be better than an 18mm, a 25mm. I am just now starting the search and i hope that i can find a 25mm knife with an auto lock/ unlock slide thingy. I don't le the dial locks

Yes, same company, but I go to the San Jose store. They have six Fasteners franchises in California. Since I bought that Tajima, it has been my favorite! I just recently used it for my drywall job in the garage! Works amazing! Large and easy to find! The larger Blade scraped out an edge perfectly as well!

That is the tricky part of purchasing German and Japanese tools , not very forthcoming of the origin of manufacture on Amazon ! Or purchasing German made tool sets with one item manufactured in Germany and the other 20 components made elsewhere !
