Should you jig for Walleye on the Detroit River in May? If you don't mind catching a variety of other species or dealing with increased pleasure boat traffic, This is still a good time to jig for walleye.
Although many are having great success pulling crawler harnesses now that the water has warmed up. You never know what you might pull up from the Detroit River!

I never use live bite and I always fish last few days of April through all May

I usually kill the walleye on bright green plastics through all of May and well into June, before that black tipped with minnows is better.

Live bait in May WTF??

Yes, I use live bait for the entire jigging season. Walleye have been eating minnows before we walked the earth or plastics were ever created. Caught too many fish using minnows, while people next to me were barely getting bites with just plastics.
Can you catch walleye without live bait? Sure, done it many times but you catch more with live bait. Never discredit a walleyes number one food source.
