Newest Walleye Rig on the Detroit River! Easy Limit!
We head on out to the Detroit River to fish a different Walleye presentation. The Old Greg Rig is a modified drop shot rig just for the Detroit River. Drop shot weights are expensive and finding 1oz isn't easy sometimes.
The Old Greg Rig utilizes a 1oz Ball Jig at the bottom with a Dropshot hook about 12" above. This can be used with either real minnows or soft plastics. Fish higher in the water column will generally bite the top hook.
Took us around 2 hours to get our limit but we weren't trying terribly hard this day lol. If you like trying new rigs and presentations like us, try out Detroit Rivers newest modified drop shot rig, The Old Greg.

Detroit River Walleye Season Opener 2024
มุมมอง 7K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
Greg and I head on out to fish the Detroit River for Walleye on Good Friday. We had a rough start in the morning but eventually found the pod of fish we were looking for. Dark colors tipped with minnows in roughly 30 feet of water was the ticket. We only fished on the American side of the river this day. Fishing will continue to get better, so make sure to find some time to head on out soon! #w...

Should you jig for Walleye on the Detroit River in May? If you don't mind catching a variety of other species or dealing with increased pleasure boat traffic, This is still a good time to jig for walleye. Although many are having great success pulling crawler harnesses now that the water has warmed up. You never know what you might pull up from the Detroit River! #walleye #detroitriver #walleye...
Walleye Shore Fishing at Night! Detroit River
มุมมอง 975ปีที่แล้ว
Had a few hours to kill after work so decided to go shore fishing the Detroit River for some Walleye. Used a light color Wyandotte worm but didn't have much luck, swapped over to a dark plastic minnow and started getting bit. Unfortunately, we were kicked out by security before we could get our limit but still had fun! Sorry about the video quality, recording at night can be difficult. If you e...
Detroit River Walleye Fishing in May
มุมมอง 959ปีที่แล้ว
May is still an excellent time to get out and fish for Walleye on the Detroit River. You will catch some other species as well now. Minnows are not necessarily needed, but we like to always keep some on the boat. The truth is walleye have been eating minnows long before we were fishing with plastics or were even alive, and will continue to do so. Live natural bait can only help your odds. The n...

YOU GUYS ARE BETTER THAN A SPAGHETTI WESTERN!!
YOU NEVER SHOWED WHAT YOU PUT ONNTHE DROP SHOT HOOK AT BY 9 MIN IN.
FINALLY AT 16 MIN IN!!!
HOLDS' YOUR LINE PERFECTLY HORIZONTAL NOT VERTICAL!!
YOU GUYS ARE A RIOT!! APPRECIATE YOUR HONESTY!!!
How many can you keep
Trolling motor not even in the water. Lol Hasn’t ever happened to me,Im always the one running the t/m! The D is a special river in April & early May!
I was on the D on Good Friday as well. We ended up with a 4 man. We are about done on the D for this year, St Clair river is next. Nice video, good luck! 👍🏻
I used this setup for perch in the 80's only we didn't use plastic on the jig. Both hooks tipped with minnows. Never was told a name for it. It was just the way my dad taught me. We also had a couple of rods with spreaders. It's crazy how fishing techniques have changed in the area over the past 30 years. I remember when drift fishing with Erie Dearie's was the only way to fish for eyes on the lake during the summer, now trolling bandits is all the rage.
Loop knot on the jig will work way better. Seriously 🤙🎣✌️
I always wear a life jacket...because you never know when someone will go full throttle to miss hitting a harmless buoy and run into you. 😂 I do the basically the same rig when fishing for smallmouth...not really anything new, just a new name for it I guess. I tie a dropshot above my ned rig. I even caught two bass at one time at Harsens Island this year using it. Some call that the Drop Dead Ned. Great video.
I just tied up a double rig Sunday fishing from shore near the Ren cen. I had a 1oz jig on the bottom and a 1/2oz Zman gobius swim bait about 12 inches above. I landed 2 on the top bait.
I love everything about this. This is a real possibility for a double header. Good thinking...
I have tried that in the past as well but never caught any on the top bait and I felt like it hampered the feel a bit, so I decided to just use the jig. I just used a Fin-S minnow on the top one. Did you get any on the top bait? Also, tell your buddy that the limit is 6 and that you are allowed to keep fishing when you have a limit…😀 He said that you were done after your 5th and that you would have to sit and watch…
the bouy mishap was classic. keep pumpin out the videos theyre great
11:38 I’m glad I,m not the only one that does this stuff. 😂. Good vid guys!!
Drop the cussing and maybe I could watch it
Or quit crying and don't watch
Drop the cussing and maybe I would watch it 😢😢😢
Or just don't
Didn't watch the whole thing ....any fish on the top hook?
This is so old
What was the rig called? Would love to know.
love how you put us interacting with u on the vid buddy!! sweet vid keep em coming man, me my wife and dad r the ones in the smaller steely! i'll be sure to say hello again next time, tight lines boys
Sorry to burst your bubble, but we have been doing that since the late 1980's. You yung one's are rediscovering us old timer techniques.
What did you guys call it? No one happens to have a name for this setup, just claim they seen it done before.
@@harleyfolgadono bubble to burst.....catching fish is catching fish
Before the term dropshot hit the scene, we called it tight lining bc the sinker was tied on the bottom. We also used a 3-way swivel in some cases, and many would & still tie a pre-snelled hook to the main line.
Sorry to burst your bubble but I've been doing this since the 1930s and I told him he can call it the old Gregory
BTW, this is an all species rig 🎣
Awesome rig!! I usually use a wooly booger fly as the top hook.
I always keep a small portable battery booster on board. Luckily I’ve never had to use it but it’s helped fellow fishermen.
I usually kill the walleye on bright green plastics through all of May and well into June, before that black tipped with minnows is better.
Now you boys are gana be sharing right, or am I gana get yelled at to fight 👍 nicely 😂😂😂😂😂
Does it have teeth 😊
Yeah its a walleye
Best tasting fish ever! Nice catch!
Did they eat it?
just seen ya out there today, was with my dad and wife, in the black steel boat. nice seeing u out there tight lines buddy
How are you managing to keep your line vertical jn the current without use of your trolling motor? Or are you juat letting your line drift away from the boat?
There’s a transom mounted trolling motor right in front of him
What orange line is that you’re using?
It's high vis line. I go with power pro high vis
Right on boys, nice to see another local channel getting it out there, heading out this morning myself. I just subbed
Whatever Greg is using I believe I would change over to it!! Good video!!
It,s today?
Flippin great 🎉
Nice video. Get a copy of all boat keys for everything you need for a day out and find a good spot in the boat kinda secret like and leave them there. No going back for keys
When they caught
What rod is Greg using is it a g loomis e6x?
I live in mount clemens n I would love to go fishing sometime.inwanna experience it
I never use live bite and I always fish last few days of April through all May
Nice fish. Did Greg used to work for Dependable construction?
NiCe FiiisH BrO
Yes sir I hate that
Amazing video! Nice work!
Really nice! Beautiful day on the water. Except for the jerk making all the wake
Where are you
The Detroit Riverwalk by Belle Isle
I live outside a dealership for those out here in Seabrook Texas lol. They have an old award winner sitting retired out front. Those things are so damn cool
It was really cool to see. Wasn't even mad he sent us some nice wake.
@@harleyfolgado I can't lie, I woulda been upset we got hit with the wake while trying to fish, but I'd be honestly more awestruck by the boat than upset. I've seen em rip down the bay right here faster that cars
Lol, God bless you, Bruv
Tag a friend that you regularly outfish!
I would, but no FB. Plus, I want to keep (out) fishing with him lol
I like to give other boaters a wide birth whenever possible. The Detroit River can be a dangerous place when the walleye run is on. From kayakers that you can’t see to 600’+ freighters that sneak up on you. You better have your head on a swivel. The best thing is to just deal with it because it’s going to happen another 20 times. You put out some good content. Thanks for sharing. Get the net 🎣🐟😃
