  • Abbott just launched a huge upgrade to their Freestyle Libre 2 which makes it a real-time CGM. This update works with the LibreLink app only and not the Libre 2 reader. It is in the UK App Store and Google Play now so just update your app. In this video, I am sharing how the update works and rollout plans for further countries. Please let me know if you have any questions in the comments.

    Love your videos! One small correction in that that not only are the libre 2 and 3 different sizes but also the accuracy is better on the libre 3. Libre2- 9.2%MARD, Libre3- 7.9% MARD

      Yes very valid point! I was referring to the general way systems work - scanning vs real time but should have made that clearer.

      They might not update the app in NL at all, because making the FSL2 a CGM instead of FGM means ppl without an RT-CGM indication (majority of those on insulin) won't have it covered anymore. See my other reaction as well.

    The roll out for the update in the UK was an absolute nightmare, broke many ios devices and we were left without the ability to scan, it's all sorted now though and abbott did send two new sensors. My daughter uses libre 3 and we often have issues with signal loss despite her phone being right next to her. It would be great to be able to scan the sensor in these circumstances which was an option when using a libre 2 with patched sw from a 3rd party offering cgm capability 'illegaly' (diabox). It's also useful when she is in the pool as the water interferes with the Bluetooth connection so we could get useful information in a potentially high risk of hypo situation. It's this a possibility with the new app?
    Although this is a great step forward it makes you wonder why they didn't go with this in the 1st place as the sensor was always continually sending data in order for the alarms to work. Keeping up with rivals seems like a worse incentive than providing better products to improve the quality of life of its end users but ho hum.
    Abbot is still way behind dexcom in terms of wearable suppport and pump integration, i hope these are also addressed in the future.

Curious, as I only have so much data left (trying to see if I can work from my sailboat). I'm trying to recall if you said that the Libre2 reader will work the same way as those that use a smart phone app when upgraded (I'm in Canada - where recently Libre3 has been approved - but still not available - but am happy with sticking with Libre2 in the meantime once app is available).

    Not sure how I feel about this tbh. I had Libre 3 for 3 months or so before switching back to 2, one of the biggest reasons being how much more the continuous updates absolutely drained my phone's battery. Hopefully they've found ways to make the app more efficient. The second biggest reason was those horrendous alarm sounds that they won't let you change...

  • @worthybookjourney3231
    @worthybookjourney3231 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    My son is trying a Libre 2 for the first time. It has to be scanned. Since this is getting close to a year old are there in updates? The scanning for him is a very slow process. It takes multiple tries to scan and then 20-30 seconds for it to actually display the number. He was using dexcom combined with Tandem. It was constant info but it was also way too many alarms for all sorts of reasons. He wants more control over the alarms. He needs a good night of sleep and dexcom/tandem does not allow that for him. We are in the US.

  • @Paul-T
    @Paul-T 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Good to see, but I have two questions before applying the update, that has just today appeared on Play Store for me.
    1. Does the update still remove the 90 days of history that sits within the app, as reported by early adopters?
    2. If the app, perhaps because I've stepped too far away from my mobile, doesn't receive one or more readings, do these get filled in once communication is restored?

    • @Paul-T
      @Paul-T 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've now updated the app and can provide answers to my own questions.
      1. I still have my previous 90 days of data, so I guess the devs have sorted that one out.
      2. As when I play golf, i leave my mobile in my bag and that causes signal losses to the phone, it would appear that when I scan the sensor manually (probably also if the mobile makes a successful connection at the next 1 minute slot) it is unclear whether it fills in the missing readings, as the graph just shows a horizontal line from the previous reading to the latest one. I'll need to leave it disconnected for longer to see if it fills the missing slots with actual proper readings or just uses the reading from the next connection to fill all of the slots.

    • @zvikaso

      @@thomasdavidson4733 Thanks for the response.
      I can't wait because I'm only in Europe for a short while, and I'll be in the UK for only a weekend it's a take or leave it situation. In my country it will probably take months (up to a year+) to catch on, as it usually is the last country on the planet to rollout changes :(
      I will try to download the UK version in the coming weekend, as it is the only country that currently has 2.10 t0 the best of my understanding.
      If the only problem is the alarms, I can live with that. As long as it will work as a cgm with a sensor from a different continent (and the readings are accurate), I'd be a happy camper.

    Hi there.
    Could you make a video on the different methods to get the readings on a smartwatch?
    I read about different ways with different software/apps - you are the tech expert (🙂) so you'd probably swim in this sea of knowledge like a fish.
    As far as I heard, there are :
    a LL+LLU option with Gwatch wear option
    a Juggluco + xdrip option
    a Diabox + xdrip option
    etc ... quite a few more.
    It's all so confusing. An expert's help is required :)
    I have an old smartwatch that used to work back in the days of Libre 1 with MM1 and xDrip, so I've got xDrip installed on my Huawei Watch 2. It all fell apart with Libre 2.
    However, if I can't connect my old watch in the new up to date setup, I'd gladly buy a new Samsung watch to regain the feature of glucose reading on the watch. It is a game changer.
    Please make a video on that.

      @@Nerdabetic It's here!! My daughter downloaded the new app on her phone two nights ago and started a new sensor (I couldn't wait even though the sensor she had on had 9 days left). Loving it!! She still needs to scan after alarms to make them stop but I like that. it keeps her aware of what her BG is doing. I also really like that if we're not getting her readings because there;s a signal loss or something, she still has the option to scan. I don't know how other CGMs work, but the libre doesn't keep a log of the minute by minute updates in the logbook. You can see them on the graph but if there is a signal loss the graph truncates back to the last scan so you can't see the updates you were getting after the last scan until the signal is restored. Anyway, I am checking her BG from my LibreLinkUp app constantly and it is so nice to know at any given time where her BG is when she isn't with me and I don't need to nag her to scan.

    • @Paul-T
      @Paul-T 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't think this would work for the Libre 1, as that wasn't able to deliver the alarms that the older version of the app for Libre2 can.
      As the LibreLink (for Libre2) app would probably be the place that the readings would be compared to the alarm levels, set by the user, the Libre2 sensor must have been already sending readings to the app every minute anyway. This is why the new update can work, as instead of just comparing it to the alarm levels, it is now recording them as actual readings. Perhaps a bit odd that they didn't do this in the first place really.

      Android update should now have reached most if not all of UK and Ireland. Rollout began 24 July. I don’t know which smartphones are compatible but if your Librelink app works then it should work with the update. Your google account is UK?

    What's the reason behind Abbot still investing in Libre 2? Why don't they roll out Libre 3 globally?

    • @Nerdabetic
      @Nerdabetic  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      In the UK, Libre 2 is available via Primary Care ( GP/ family doctor) whereas Libre 3 is only available with CGM funding via diabetologist/ diabetes consultant/ Bringing real time to Libre 2 makes it accessible to thousands more people and makes a very serious competitor to Dexcom ONE.

    Why wouldn’t you use the Libre3? Isn’t it available everywhere?

    • @ItsLimby

      in uk we don't pay for our diabetic gear and only the 2 is being paid for by the NHS if we want libre 3 we would need to buy our own,

      I would add that Libre 2 is on prescription whereas Libre 3 requires full CGM funding which is more challenging to get.

    My experience:
    After updating the app, my current sensor that had a few days left was now working real time without scanning, brilliant! After that sensor ended, my next sensor didn't get real time data, it just said "signal loss" the whole time so had to scan all the time, the next sensor is exactly the same, "signal loss" and needs scanning. Rubbish!

      Hi, Thanks for sharing. Did you eventually find out what was the problem? Are you using the latest update? In which country do you reside?

      Thanks for sharing!!! Haven’t heard of that before. Interesting how the first one did work well and then the others didn’t. Mind me asking which phone you using?

      @@Nerdabetic Yeah it’s very frustrating. I’m using an iPhone 14 Pro with latest version of the app. Seems like a lot of people are having this problem from checking Libre Facebook groups.

    Giving a reading automatically every minute - does that increase injury from radio frequencies emitted from these devices? Why do you think the company limited testing before to occasional scanning - perhaps every ten to fifteen minutes? Simply a lack of forethought in the marketing department?

    It doesn't matter how bad Abbott tries to pretend it's just as good as Dexcom: Extremely varying/noisy readings every minute are still inaccurate and bad for reliable DIY closed looping (Ask ythe openaps/androidaps community).
    It is also clear tha Abbott knows very well in which countries it can wait with improvements (countries like The Netherlands, where FSL2 is the only sensor funded in the public healthcare insurance)

      Currently Libre 2 does not communicate with any insulin pumps. Freestyle Libre 3 works with mylife YpsoPump. Have a great day
