  • Medtronic Simplera CGM unboxing and insertion! In today’s video I am trying out the newest piece of tech from Medtronic Diabetes- their Simplera CGM.
    Disclaimer: I was given this Simplera CGM for free with no expectations of PR coverage. My video does not represent Medtronic’s views and I was not paid to do it.

    As a mum of a type 1 daughter who was on dexcom g6 for 4 years, now on Medtronic with Guardian 4 sensor. The pump is mind blowing, the sensor is not the prettiest and is a lot more fiddly to insert. We would be overjoyed to get the simplera.

    When you change the CGM, you can let it warm up, when your wearing the other one. So the warm up is taking less then 2 hours (so I heard)

    Thanks for posting. Now that they’ve addressed their terrible guardian CGM travesty, I would consider going back to Medtronic. (I thought the algo was great.) Waiting to see what their next pump is like. Thanks for the video!

    Have you heard anything about when the simplera sync will actually release in the UK? I heard spring, but in my mind spring is pretty much over

    The Medtronic 780G paired with the Guardian Sensor 4 is a incredible closed loop system, but putting the sensor in sucks the fat one. It's fiddly and needs to go behind your arm which makes it worse, initial insertion is a little brutal too. If I wasn't using it with the pump I'd absolutely use a Freestyler instead. I sincerely hope this comes to Australia quickly, I can live with a 2hr warm up and 7 day wear :-)
    Also do you mind doing a follow-up review? How did it hold up over 7 days, how accurate was it, did it need any TLC or calibration? Thanks! Love the video's thank you.

      @@Thems0the0breaks0kid When I got my pump 2 years ago my Diabetes Educator recommended it over the competition for its more advanced and aggressive algorithms. She was very up-front with the pumps short fallings, including how hostile it is to put in the CGM and how bulky the unit is. I have appreciated how actively it will auto-bolus or cut insulin entirely to keep the ship steady, it was game changing. With that said I'll certainly research & change to a better option when my renewal comes up, but that's still 2 years away at least (I couldn't afford to pay for a pump, my private health will replace it every 4 years or so).

    Ty for this anouncement.
    Please answer if you know... Does Simplera work on all Android phones regardless of system version(Android version 7, 8 ....12, 13, 14)?
    Because Guardian 4 have serious issues and only works on a few phones that are old and must be compatible with Guardian 4. Also, the Andoid system must only be compatible with version 11 and 12. If you upgrade your phones to Android 13 or 14, the Medtronic sensor will not it still worked on that phone and can't be use with sensor. And those phones, being old, are hard to find now.

    Should you change a bleeder to ensure accuracy? What could cities do to remove barriers for people living with Diabetes. I'm working on a project. Lastly, have you tried the Ketones sensor for China?

  • @Billingtonius
    @Billingtonius หลายเดือนก่อน

    Gone through about 7 or 8 of these with the 780g closed loop system
    Massive improvement on the Guardian 4
    After the 2hr warmup it will go straight to a value, no calibration
    Although there are certain conditions when it will ask for calibration, e.g. if your basal has been suspended over the max time
    Generally pretty accurate, although the dreaded 'calibration not accepted' message is still in there, only happened once so far, I just kept snoozing it's request for a couple of hours then recalibrated and it was fine after that
    Getting my BG on my android watch (old Samsung tizen, eww) has been possible but took a lot of research and apps installed: medtronic -> xdrip -> g-watch on phone -> g-watch watch face on watch

      Thanks for sharing! Yeah massive upgrade on Guardian 4. Yeah android watch compatibility is non existed but thankfully we have the DIY gang. Have you found less alarms with 780G on Simplera vs G4?

    • @Billingtonius
      @Billingtonius 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Alarms about smart guard about the same
      Alarms about sensor malfunction less
      Although I had a reasonable experience with G4 (probably the new transmitter, I was upgraded, as a 3year old transmitter on a G3 was hell on earth)

    As someone who is full Medtronic ecosystem (currently on 780g+guardian) for more than a decade it’s very disappointing to see how small this evolution is.
    A guide on what someone could expect when trying to transition away from Medtronic’s ecosystem might be interested.

      Thanks for sharing your views! Would love to know more? Is your disappointment around the 7 day wear time?

    • @CollinReinking
      @CollinReinking หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@Nerdabetic the 7 day wear time, the two hour warm up (the warm up is probably the bigger issue) and that the setup may be more involved (having to type a code in).
      I guess I just hoped that Medtronic wouldn’t evolve to just catch up but to get back ahead.
      I don’t see any way in which they are “ahead” of the other options in the market other than that it’s a single company ecosystem.

      I've been using medronic pumps for almost 20 years. They are so far behind. They have become less durable and have less accurate CGMs. CGMs that only last 7 days and uses a huge deep going sensor (painful) and requires a 2 hour warm up. I thought this update would be better, but medtronic basically just connected the sensor and transmitter.
      Their algorithm is still the best, but the physical hardware is behind the competition and progress is almost non existent. I wanted to be excited about the Simplera, but it does not seem to offer much of an improvement. I hope I'm wrong.
      I really, greatly want to see medtronic purchase and integrate the Eversense like the E3 with medtronic pumps so that I only need to insert 1 sensor a year and use it for a full year. And allow for 2 transmitters so I could charge one while the other is in use for truly Continues Glucose Monitoring, not the crap we have now with medtronic pumps and CGM's.
      Do you have any ideas you'd like to have?

    • @CollinReinking

  • @matthewcolburn9930

    the only change seems to be that the transmitter and sensor are together. What are the other advantages with the pump? Disappointing that it still takes 2 hours of warm up and only lasts 7 days. I really wish a pump would use a technology like the Eversense E3 that you'd only need to insert the sensor once a year. 7 days is just to short and a 2 hour warm up is to long. With medtronic pumps you can not even insert a sensor 2 hours early and connect a second transmitter to get Continues Glucose Monitoring so that as one ends the new one starts. CGM is impossible with medtronic and you always have the 2 hour sensor information gap. It sucks. It is defiantly not continues even with the name CGM. I'm so disappointed in Simplera CGM. Nothing really changed much in this update. Disappointed 😥 They could have done so much more and better.

      You can let it warm up already 2 hours befor the other dies, so you can switch to the other one.
