  • Hey Guys! This is how I fixed my car mirror for around 5 dollars! The mirror broke off completely in one piece, and in the video I show you the easy diy way to fix a car mirror that has broken off. It is very simple, all you need is some construction adhesive and some tape to act as a clamp to hold the broken mirror back on.

    JB Weld is cheaper and easier to apply. Just grab a tube at your hardware store. No need for a caulking gun. Since it's a two part epoxy, it will set up faster and cure harder. Mine lasted for 7 years in cold/wet Seattle weather.

    • @DylansDIYWorkshop
      @DylansDIYWorkshop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      cheaper probably. easier. not sure, with trying to mix up enough and not too little or too much. and then spreading it on. Id argue thats around the same difficulty level

    You don't have to plastic wrap the end of the caulking tube. Just squeeze until a little bit comes out the end of the tube and let it dry. It will act as a plug. When you're ready to reuse the caulk for something else, just pull out the plug - good to go.

    • @DylansDIYWorkshop
      @DylansDIYWorkshop  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Judy Soto the tape that I used is tuck tape. It's the tape that you use for vapor barrier, it's as strong as duct tape without the webbing in it. I chose it because it is weatherproof once applied. You have to make sure that the surface is dry before you do this for both the adhesive to work and the tape to adhere. As long as the edges of the tape are held down and flipped up a bit. You should definitely be able to drive with it on there I drove with the tape on there for 3 days before I peel the tape off which gave the construction adhesive time to dry. I would leave the tape on for at least that long if I were you to make sure that it's it's dry. The mirror isn't quite as strong as it used to be but it's still much better than having to get it fully replaced.

    • @DylansDIYWorkshop

      +Judy Soto it depends on how cracked it is. What I would do is do my best to get that adhesive in between the two parts of the crack and if necessary I would break the where the crack is. I would try to part until it snapped. That way you could put the proper amount of adhesive between the two pieces they should go back together

    • @DylansDIYWorkshop

      2 years. lasted much longer than the car did. it only let go because we hit it with the tractor. also, wind will not rip it off. we had it up to 210kmh (~120mph) and it didnt budge

      Wow, thankyou for replying so quickly. I have a 2002 Golf, the mirror got bumped into and the little nodules under the triangular black housing part that attaches to the car...snapped off...need a good fix.A few years would be awesome, looks like it would have lasted longer if something had not fell on it. Thats pretty good

    • @DylansDIYWorkshop
      @DylansDIYWorkshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would guess it wouldve lasted many more years of regular use. and when it finally did go you could just scrape/break off the dried glue and re glue it

    Hey , you NEVER mentioned , how long will it last ?? 😢😢😢😢
    Secondly , the surface area , that your car mirror has , is huge , not all cars areade that way these days now the accidental BREAK of the mirror usually happens on the weakest line of contact , which is not have a huge surface area as in the video !!!! Please make a video about that realistically that's important. Rather than this kind of a fairy tale video 😅

    Would this work if i do this in hot weather (97°)? Even if I left the tape on for 2 days, wouldn’t it fall?

    • @DylansDIYWorkshop
      @DylansDIYWorkshop  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Your best bet would be to do it somehow where it wouldnt be that hot. if you cant do it in a garage. if theres any way to leave it in the shade of a tree for a day... or apply it at the beginning of the night. it should be good. I left the tape on for a few days myself. it never ended up coming off.

      Dylan's DIY Workshop yea I was thinking at the beginning of the evening so it’ll be cooler. I’ll leave the tape on for a day or two. Thank you SO much for replying. I’ve thought about doing this to my car for like 2 weeks now and I think I’ll try it out today. Huge thanks!!!!!!
