    Sim racers who run triples run into the same issues with games that don’t support triples. The issue is viewing angle. When you just span the resolution across three monitors it’s a flat image that you are bending. If you had all three monitors flat without an angle it would probably look better. With true triple support you’re able to set the angle and bezel width. Also view height impacts perception as well. If you’re not centered vertically the images will appear bent at the bezels.

    Display Fusion can be used to "spoof" windows into opening like it's on 3 separate monitors. Been using it for about 3 years now and leave my set-up in surround and never switch back and forth.

    I have (3) monitors 32-inch 1440p 160 hz refresh each, But I usually use lower at 144 hz. and I agree with everything you said.
    One would think that by now this industry would have fixed this problem a long time ago. We are in 2022 going on 2023 and it just amazes me the amounts of crap I have
    seen and still see still happening and not fixed or have a solution to them in this day in age. I just dont get it.
    BTW - You should try HCS Sound Packs with Voice Attack.... So you don't have to keep moving up to press a key on the keyboard. Just talk and it will do it....LOL its really fun..!! :)

    I'm not trying to be rude. I'm curious what you are talking about when you say it's a hassle to switch between PhysX surround and a regular three monitor display. After I'm done my game, I just have to go in and uncheck PhysX surround. Hit apply and done. Maybe you are running an older driver but it's literally easier than swapping out a wallpaper.

    The way alot of games do their triple monitor support is just to stretch the screen to fit. The distortion is due to the fact that they change the FOV from ~90 to 150-180 and the sides start to show the parallax effect from the streched FOV.
    That said if a Dev was to do triple monitor support correctly it would probably be a much bigger hit on the GPU because instead of just doing a transform on the scene from one cameras perspective, you would need to render 3 cameras.

    Hi guys. I played Elite D for some time with one display and IR-track. Did think of buying the VR, but the latest one came with one hefty price tag(You need a high end GPU anyways for this..), so i ended up just ordering the Trio Display.
    Anyway, i very Curious on how the FPS goes and what is a minimum or decent GPU requirement when doing Trio display? Pls don't say the 2080... pls! I got a 970 as of now, can i make do with it, or do i need a 1080?

  • @danhoven

    Microsoft / Asobo get a lot of flack on their triple monitor support, but after using surround, its sooooooo much better and so far it's the only sim that allows such a thing while also giving you ways to fine tune each monitor. DCS gives two options in how to handle a triple screen and it too is awesome since I don't have to mess around with nvidia surround. It's surprising they've never made it better to where it would be simple to swap back and forth, such as run a particular game in surround, or after a session and switch back to have all icons go back to where they were.
    I'm posting my comment 5 years since this video and nothing has changed with nvidia surround. As for setups go, I went with three 28" 4k monitors. The smaller screens allows me to put them much closer to my face, thus giving actually a larger viewing area while at the same time allowing the correct aspect ratio.

    Windows key + P to quickly switch between three individual displays and one large! TriDisp gaming is awesome, I have 3x32" 1440p and for games like EuroTruck Simulator 2 is awesome. But for productivity separate displays is necessary. It can definitely be a pain at times, so much of the time I just run games on my 55" main anyway.

    8:53 Most games I've tried have this or similar problems, in space sims it might not matter all that much, but walking in the terrain with objects constantly passing by and/or alot of twisting and turning pretty much makes tripple display gaming useless, in landscape mode atleast. Wiith more players having wither multi display setups or ultra wide displays, I find it strange how developers fail to adress this issue.

  • @dantontecho
    @dantontecho 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    9:20 you need to properly adjust your FOV to correct such errors, you are supposed to own 3 monitors to crank down your FOV and make everything adjust to proper scale, (which honestly sounds crazy right? buying more monitors for less FOV? when in reality its supposed to be used for more realistic proportions when looking at your monitors, like looking through a window, which is also why most sim racers have triple monitor setups, it gives a better notion of space, speed, and more horizontal screen space,) but still killer monitors man, love your channel :)

    Every windows update breaks surround, and that's why I got away from it. Nvidia eventually fixes it so you can leave your monitor in surround and everything outside of gaming works as 3 independent monitors, but it sucks that it does not always work. Wide screen monitors with extra side monitors are the way to go. Not really an option with 43" monitors though

    what? To look up info during gaming, you can use the steam browser, or you can run the game in windowed mode on one screen, with a browser on the other, in fact Im doing that now. 3 27" 4k displays SLI and surround, discord on 1st montior, game in 2k windowed mode on 2nd, and obviously youtube on 3rd. The part that sucks is aside from well optimzed games, running 12k is very taxing on just about all modern GFX cards, even SLI configurations.

    there are features in the nvidia control panel for adjusting taskbar icons,desktop stuff. also you seem to be lacking two key programs for Nvidia Surround gaming which is "flawless widescreen" and "widescreen fixer" both programs can fix a lot of issues certain games have and make other games playable in nvidia surround resolutions.
    I feel this video is overly judgmental without doing proper research into the many features that make nvidia surround easily usable. One comment I do agree with is that nvidia constantly borks the desktop icons when switching between maximum performance and nvidia surround

    As far as the issue with your Icons, have you tried running any of your games in "Borderless Windowed Mode"? This allows you to put the game on one screen in what looks like full screen, but if frees up another screen so you can have a web browser open in another monitor without have to reconfigure your setup.

    the side displays get stretched, because the graphics card by default thinks you have the displays flat to a wall, not in a corner.... The gtx 1080 introduced a no penalty screen angling algorithm that allows the side displays to display correctly after you tell it what angle you put the screens at... If you have a 1080, you need to find the setting and set it, that should help to correct the side screen angles, creating more of a proper bay window effect. Unfortunately, this a side effect of a single viewpoint, without display angle correction.... and this is a standard problem for graphics prior to the 1080, I'm sure the 1080 ti has it, but, I don't know what else does.... So, Since I think you have a 1080, try looking for that setting in the graphics card drivers, to set your screen angles, which should help to correct the side screen stretching that is due to the effort to display across the screens as if they were on a single flat wall....

      *Correction, you Said you have a 1080 ti, so, go into the graphics driver and set the screen angles, this should allow the displays to provide the proper view, for a bay window effect....
      Sorry, can't help for display setup switching, as I have been denied it on my setup, between windows and updated amd drivers, I seem to have lost my 3 monitor array, and haven't fought to restore it for a couple months...

      You mean SMP , which is an API that needs implementation.. so there is no fix until devs use the tech, and multi monitors are almost never on their to do lists.

    • @bigtrucker26
      @bigtrucker26 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BenderBendingRodriguezOFFICIAL I mean during the launch event for the gtx 1080, they showed off this new feature, which basically makes each monitor have it's own virtual camera in the world the graphics card draws. But you have to tell the driver the angles of the side screens to get them to display as such. it is supposed to have near zero effect on the performance of the 1080, as it's supposed to be fully integrated and not a additional program.

    • @vincer9960
      @vincer9960 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bigtrucker26 Yes, Nvidia showed this off and it is great but the problem, like so many other graphics technologies, is that the game-makers need to code the Nvidia feature into the game. Stupid, right? It's too bad this can't be performed on the driver level in the Nvidia control panel regardless of the game you're playing.
      Most racing sims include true triple screen support built into the game for 10 or 15 years now (doesn't matter what graphics card you use). So stupid that 99% of games still don't have true triple screen support while small simracing devs have been doing it for 15 years.

      @sgcdialler 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's his real problem. The screens are taking up 170 degrees IRL but the max setting in game is only like 70 or 80 degrees, so the engine stretches the image to the point of looking like a fisheye lens.

    Your side screens look warped, because the perspective is messed up by you wrapping the monitors. If they were all in line with each other (flat), it'd look more normal.

    • @mikekacz
      @mikekacz 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with that statement, in order to match i more closely the camera (in-game) would have to switched from rectilinear to cylindrical projection, but that would bring other 'artifacts'

    • @bigtrucker26
      @bigtrucker26 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      He has 1080ti, they have a setting in the drivers that allows you to set the angles of the side screens to give the propper view, but, if you don't, then it thinks all screens are on a flat wall and gives you the view for that

    • @KjetilBalstad
      @KjetilBalstad 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I've tried, and the distorsion still happens. Objects looks like they are super close and streached out. Only thing better with a flat setup is wile moving forward, the ground passed by in the right angle, where you'd see the ground in the left and side display move directly towards you like it does on the middle display if you wrap them around you at angles. This feels very strange as the ground in the side vision should not move towards you, but vanish out at either the left or right edge of the display.

    Just use the hotkey to switch surround on and off so you can go between productivity and gaming; although tbh after using surround a lot when I first got 3 screens I haven't used it in years.
    Also the side monitors aren't made for you looking at them they're there only for immersion on your peripheral vision

    Protip: move your desktop icons elsewhere because it literally slows down your boot time especially if you have a lot of junk saved on your desktop. Also, right click and hide desktop icons afterwards.

      Uh? Do you mean it would be better to have 4k on consoles? Why? You sit farther away from the screen - meaning you can't really tell the difference as good. And the consoles hasn't got the horsepower to drive 4k with good graphics either...
