Can we re-create a missing piece of SKODA YETI trim that's UNAVAILABLE!?

  • Our Skoda Yeti Urban lost its rear driver's side arch trim and turns out its completely unavailable! Skoda don't have it in stock anymore, no third part stocks the arch trims and all the ones on ebay are crap knock offs. We have no choice but to try and fabricate one ourselves. Lewis is going to use his sills to reverse and cope the other side in aluminium sheet.

    We lost the same part about 4 weeks ago. Discovered, as you have, they are not available. I got lucky and spotted an Urban in a breakers (at the opposite end of the country) and bought a door for £190 delivered. Unfortunately the door wasn't the same colour as our car, but you can't win them all!
    I looked into 3D, but didn't get much encouragement, and suspect it would not be cheap if you can find somewhere with a large enough machine to print one.
    Your fabrication is really good. Maybe a texture paint would help it blend in with the plastic.

    • @WhitelandRestorations
      @WhitelandRestorations  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You got very lucky to find one in a breakers yard. Lost count of the number of places we contacted! We did paint it in textured spray, it's a really good match and you wouldn't really notice unless you pointed it out 😁

    Fantastic job Lewis! I think the problem is going to be that if these trim pieces are totally unobtanium, and are obviously not stuck on that well from the factory, then the scroats are going to start pinching them. As someone has suggested, there has to be a market for manufacturing replacements. As long as you had a good original set, they would be pretty easy to reproduce in fibreglass.

    I bought our car with damage to the front bumper and I purchased a tin of HD Body Pro F222 Bumpersoft Elastic Filler. I’ve yet to do the job but I have tested it on a repair to my 25-30 year old Flymo 🤣 it dries Black but after sanding it goes grey. Where did you get the black textured paint from as I can’t find it for sale only info on the website not for purchase.

  • @EVguru
    @EVguru ปีที่แล้ว

    It didn't look like you were using high enough temperature to fully anneal the Aluminium. Use Black or Blue Sharpie marker and heat until the colour fades.

      Could have done.... Our 3d printer isn't that time effective and we don't really like the finish. We'd need one of those super expensive ones and when it gets to that point it's cheaper and easier to fab it really
