I’ve seen these used in Outback Truckers as emergency repairs. Be great to have an update to see if it provides a permanent repair 👍

Hi Lewis! I my kit 2 years ago when my r53 o/s rear tyre (4 new Uniroyal Rainsport5s fitted a week before) picked up a screw on the inside shoulder where a tyre shop would refuse a repair. I sold the car a month ago & the repair was still perfect! Cheers. Leigh. PS: My kits has black "bacon" strips!

I use a similar kit that i use to repair my MTB and road bicycle tubeless tyres. I run pressure between 35-65psi and it generally holds. The red gooey stuff they call bacon rashers for some reason. It is ok to use out and about on the bike as an emergency and does seem to hold pressure. I do run with tubeless sealant as well which may help.

I keep one of these in my emergency kit after I got a puncture from a screw, used one of these cheap kits and it held up for the two years I still had that car before I sold it. They hold up pretty well but if you want the piece of mind, you can go to a tyre place to get a permanent repair.

It's still holding up, we've got one in our kit now too. It's good to test these things out before you need to in an emergency

Blimey Lewis. It was tight trying to push that tool into that hole. But hey, you did it. My curiosity about these kits have been answered with your handy demo. Worth having.

Worth having for sure, we've got one in our emergency kit now. Very handy!

They are good and some come with rubber glue which helps when you push them in. They are not actually legal in UK, but then again chunks out of the side wall are not either, but cracks are for some reason. But legality only causes an issue if the MOT tester notices, hence why you can get black ones.

Interesting. I was expecting it to be like one of those cans of foam which never ever work. But this one might be worth getting.

It's still holding out so far. We're definitely keeping one in the emergency kit.

To think I had to go on a course to do puncture repair to bs5750 and now people will be using these temporary repairs without checking for internal damage to the tyre

Such a plug works well, I did that once on an almost new tire, I was able to wear out the tire without any problems.

just got the same kit, so we have this in the car, we have the Kia foan can, but would like to repair my own and not ruin a tyre with the foam

      @WhitelandRestorations  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Tyre shops do not like having to deal with the aftermath of sealer foams!

Good to get you going in the short term but if you took it to a tyre centre they would probably write the tyre off due to the position of the puncture.
They don't like seeing punctures too close to the shoulder of the tyre these days.

No commission! We get a tiny tiny kick back when someone clicks the link to buy one for themselves but we paid for the kit ourselves to test it 😁

To get home in an emergency it’s probably ok. I definitely wouldn’t want one on a front wheel, not sure what insurance cover would be like if something went wrong

Was using this system back in the seventies as a tempory repair untill the tyre could be fixed with a permanant vulcanising repair.

That type of repair kit is good to keep in the car but isn't actually legal to use on UK roads apparently. How anyone would know though?

This maybe a case of teaching your grandma to suck eggs but make sure everyone knows not to use it for a sidewall puncture or near the edges of tread area.

i think this type of repair is only for off road repair of tyres in the uk sticky strings not a legal repair for uk roads and you were close to edge the limit at where a repair can be legally be made
