    There are usually multiple ways to acoomplish an effect in PS. This method is one of the easier ways to add a blue sky. I just finished watching someone else's tutorial and although he's clearly very experienced and knowledgable, his technique to accomplish a blue sky was far more convoluted and took 20mins to explain. Thanks for the excellent tutorial!

    how do you do this but prevent other white areas from becoming blue? is the polygon lasso tool the only way or once you've selected your whites, is there a way to remove specific selected areas?

    • @SageandDandy
      @SageandDandy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      They best ways I know is to experiment with the selective color adjustment bars before doing the selection, but it can be hit or miss. You could definitely do a selection of the area to help with the problem areas and then use a light weight mask or history brush to brush back in the places you don't want blue. Another option is to use a brush that looks like clouds and use that with the mask or history brush function to add some of the original white back in at low capacities around the horizon of the image. Hope some of those help!

    • @SageandDandy
      @SageandDandy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      btw I meant "select color range" when I said "selective color". XD

    • @johnwood5520
      @johnwood5520 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks, i'll try the history brush, didn't know about that. I ended up doing exactly what you do in the video and then used the magic wand tool to deselect the white areas under the sky that i wanted to stay the same. thanks for the video and your reply.

  • @andrewtaylor5253
    @andrewtaylor5253 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi how do you change sky if your subject has a white shirt? how do you deselect any white on the subject?

    • @SageandDandy
      @SageandDandy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is when things get a little more tricky and you will have to do a very careful removal of the blue from the shirt with either a layer mask or a history brush. I would recommend using a brush set to medium or high hardness as that will help make sure the lines you create when removing the blue are nice and crisp. A lot of techniques have their downfalls and a subject with a lot of white is the downfall of this one. ;)

  • @Iris-bx7tt
    @Iris-bx7tt 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't know what I did wrong. I followed step by step with the tutorial, and everything went well until I selected the gradient tool and started at the top and moved down my photo. The color didn't change. I had selected a blue sky and it was in the box to the back (not the border box). So I don't know what to do. Also there were some white elements in the photo below the sky that were also highlighted, so I specifically did not go all the way to the bottom of the photo with the gradient tool, as I didn't want those white elements to change. Thanks for any help you can give me.

    • @SageandDandy
      @SageandDandy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Iris Hmm I am still trying to figure this one out, perhaps check to make sure your gradient opacity isn't super low. This is the only thing I can think of for this one. If anyone else has any ideas please feel free to comment!

    hey... my color changing option not getting the way you are taking. when i select blue it show me brow color?

    • @SageandDandy
      @SageandDandy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Tariq Mehmood Make sure when you do the gradient tool that the color picker options (little color boxes at the bottom of the tool bar) are blue on top and white for background. I think that has solved it for most people! Let me know if you need anymore help!

    @howdoiputthecheeseintheove8437 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I did everything you said but the colour selection thing i chose blue and it came up with light grey, it won't change from that! How do i get rid of it?

    • @SageandDandy
      @SageandDandy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think a couple of people have had this issue, make sure that your color picker palette is still a sky blue color on the upper palette, some times the selection process makes it the color of the current sky before people get to the gradient step. If that isn't the issue let me know and I will try to help you trouble shoot something else. :)

    I followed your instructions exactly and my sky turns black/gray
    instead of blue. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

    • @SageandDandy
      @SageandDandy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jamie Welker Hmm, double check that your palette colors are indeed blue and white before you use the gradient tool. Sometimes if you accidentally click on another color before using it, it will reset them to that. Let me know if that works, if not I will try and help you find another solution. =)

    • @SageandDandy
      @SageandDandy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You might need to reselect your colors after using the select color range picker because it might revert your color selection to the grey of the sky.

    Hi, this all worked really well until I did the gradient tool thingy at which point it removed the colour from every part of the photo. In other words my sky went back to being white. It was on my own photo.

    • @SageandDandy
      @SageandDandy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sarah Lloyd Hmm, check to see that you still have your selection and that the colors from your color pallet pickers are white and blue still. I have had some people accidentally lose their colors before doing the gradient or lose the selection. Let me know if either of those work. If not I will look at some other ideas of what it could be.

  • @more999
    @more999 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    ok...what did i forget.......i did exactly like it said, area was selected, but when i selected Gradient tool and made the marks, the color did not change

    • @SageandDandy
      @SageandDandy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +more999 Let me think. You might need to make sure that the color picker has blue selected. select color range tool can change the color picker to white and it would look like nothing had changed. Let me know if that helped!

  • @gohqixuan3866

    • @SageandDandy
      @SageandDandy  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm that's a new one for me. I would check and make sure that you have a blue color still selected in your color picker right before you use the gradient tool to make the sky, perhaps it accidentally selected a white tone before you did the gradient.

    • @gohqixuan3866

      Temperate Sage By the way is it possible for you to do a tutorial on photo effects? Like if you search Anka Zhuravleva, Brooke Shaden, Kyle Thompson... Etc those kind of effects?
      I don't have enough money to effort photoshop cs6 so I'm currently using cs2, I don't know what to do with my pictures beside contrast and brightness. But yeah, you can still do it on cs6 if you want. Thanks

    • @SageandDandy

      I could do a few more photo manipulation tutorials in the future, I'll have to think of some good ones. :) Perhaps I'll do a few tutorials for those who are still at cs2 as well! It's been a while since I have gone in and looked for the tools people are missing in that one.
