You saved me so money tonight! Thank you so much!!!I cannot afford a repair guy, or a new washer/dryer combo! Single moms can do this, i am proof! You made it so simple. Thank you!
Thank you so much. I started my 2 year old washer with water feed valves closed. Drain pump wouldn’t stop running even after unplugging the washer and waiting. I pulled the plug and waited over an hour but it still ran after replugging. I tried the initial diagnostic setup and pump stopped and machine now works filling up normally w/o pump running. Thank you for saving me a service call. All best…Joseph.
You just saved us a LOT LOT of $ - the washer in our stacked wouldn't fill, just kept draining. GE troubleshooting sez "Reset" but they don't tell you HOW. I went into diag mode and then unplugged it, that did the trick. Wife thinks I'm some sort of genius.
Mr. Beard of Knowledge Thank you for showing us how these washers work and how to test them. My unit was different, but the same. You still showed me enough. To everyone wondering where ‘The Beard’ finds the manuals, I found mine taped to the backside of the panel just above the washer door that covers the main control board.
Hi just got one these newer model I believe , is it normal for the dryer while tumbling to have a scrapping noise that starts small then gets loud and reduces gradually and phases out and then again, or is this the machine shooting the heat out in loud "spurts" like a drumbeat "1" and "2" and "3" and " 4" etc, ?? Thank you

Hats off to you, sir! Keep up the great work. Our washer was stuck locked and wouldn't let us begin a new cycle. We had clothes in there getting reallllly smelly. Going into diag mode > clearing codes > back out of diag mode.. that made it work again and be able to start a new cycle! Cheers
Number 3 in diagnostic mode comes up with a spin code.when I turn to spin only ,the mode changer engages the gears , washer starts to spin then after a few seconds, machine shuts down .
Yup just did the all cycle through with exceptions of hot cold valves. Exited diagnostic mode. And ran an empty (no clothes) small load size for water on tap cold and light on permanent press. Watched it with the front cover off the whole time to ensure the gears aligned and the pump worked and no weird noises were identified. Gtg. Thanks for the wonderful tips. Saved me so much money. Thank you so much for the video. It was spot on and I was able to fix our washer on the first try. It was just like the video. I would not have known where to even get into the machine without it and the repair was exactly like yours. BTW - found 3 socks and tons of lint (potential fire hazard?).
Thank you so much! I fixed my washer using your video - the error was the spin and when I opened it up - a wire blew and a mask was stuck in the motor. Thanks for your awesome video! You saved the day!
THANK YOU!!!!!! I have been fighting with my washer for 2 weeks. Replaced multiple parts that didnt clear my error code. This video along with the error code one save my washer.
All kind of codes on ours for 2 years, 2 units..AW. Finally found it. Tore it apart, checked all harnesses, sensors, no issue. Pulled it out check hoses, no problem. THEN, Pulled it out a little further...OMG, Installed with drain line put in about 2 feet!. THIS results in a long fill. During fill it siphons into drain if drain is lower than water level, and the unit times out on fill. Wiretied the drain line so it is only about 4 inch in...NO PROBLEMS NOW 2 YEARS... expcept the black marks from the crappy dryer seal. Clean the dryer guides about 1 year. I'm hoping new shrouds.
Thanks for the video info! What is your thought if I am getting no lights for anything (diagnostics or error code) and no light on the control board as was in the past. I figure the board is dead. Your thought??

So.. our washer does NOT fill up with water.. there is only a small bit, maybe 1 1/2 gallons in the bottom of the washer while attempting to wash a load of clothes. The water simply stops filling way too early. I do not understand why??
Awesome video! I have this unit, and it fills with water while not in use. I am assuming I need to replace or clean the cold water valve. I'm hoping this diagnostic will help me sort it out before I just start buying random parts. Thanks, bif thumbs up!
Hi Nathan. I have a 2007 GE space saver model. My dial has similar settings but a little different. My washer would go on but wouldn't agitate. I tried it 3 or 4 times but it wouldn't agitate. I tried running diagnostics by pushing the two buttons and turning the dial down to 6oclock but nothing appeared to happened. But then I tried the washer and it works!! 😃
Lol these things have a mind of their own. First thing to do when you have weird problems is give it a good reset. I have a feeling that’s what you did to make it work lol. Glad it’s working!
@@BeardedApplianceRepair Ya I think it reset too. Thanks for your video. I was so stressed my daughter and I couldn't wash at home because of the damn virus! Thanks again! 😎👍
I had to press just the start button on my model. As somebody else mentioned: open the panel above the washer lid. You’ll find the control board there, and hopefully a technical sheet going through these diagnostic tests, and how to get into them…
I had one of these this week. Complaint was they have to push the lid for the washer to lock. Someone had ordered the lid switch and I installed it but it kept doing the same thing. The striker for the lid switch look fine and the lid didn't seem bent in anyway.
Hey boss. Do you have any videos for the dryer? I believe my heating element is gone. Trying to find how to get to it and replace it. Thanks for the help
Hi & thanks for the useful video. I ran the test on my washer, hot water, spin and thermoactuator are working fine. But agitation not working and when it is on position 9, water fills into tank, but agitation not starting and suddenly the “wash” light illuminates and when I push the start button, it agitates just once and then “wash” light starts to blink. How can I fix it?
Thanks a lot! I am following through your video since my drain pump was not working. But when I put this in diagnostic mode at knob on 8 oclock, it makes a vibrating noise and nothing else. So I am not sure if mine is just stuck as I can feel that the drain pump is getting hotter. Also, the color of wiring between yours and mine are opposite. Left side black and white right side orange
I watched your video! Great video! However I cannot get any of the lights to come on at all. It’s as if it does not have power running to it at all. The dryer does work fine. The only thing I wasn’t sure about the video was how can you tell if something is not working correctly? I’m going to go try and push the buttons simultaneously again to see if I can get something to light up. Thank you so much for your help.
I have the exact same issue: Start a cycle, shortly after, the cycle stops, no lights, washer unresponsive...did you ever solve this? Was it a bad control board?
Great video! Just had the agitator fail to move in water during wash cycle but makes loud sound like the engine is tryingl We suspect this is the second time the bottom of the agitator will be chewed up (it's just cheap plastic) by the strength of the steel teeth of the engine in contact with it. Can you help us, please.
I have a new GE stack washer/dryer. When I put it on Bulk to wash it will not fill with water to cover the clothes over 1/4 full but it fills to the top during rinsing. How do it fix that. I can hardly put any clothes in my washer
Dear Mr. Bearded Guy, Want to start off letting you know I am a retired divorced woman on a pretty tight budget, That being said, I am having trouble with my GE stackable and after watching countless videos (yours are the best)I have learned how to diagnose. The issue seems to be when in diagnosis mode and clicked to heavy after a few minutes it works but when it is switched to light, it does nothing. The rinse and spin lights are green. My understanding is that the problem is with the drain pump. It does not appear to be clogged from looking at it (unless I need to take those hoses off to know for sure) Is it possible for you to post a video on how to change the drain pump? I would greatly appreciate it. Either way, thank you for posting these videos as they are super helpful. Sincerely Margie
Hi there great video thank you. The only thing I didn’t see was a diagnostic for the lid switch. I have the exact same machine as the one you were showing but sometimes it won’t start unless I open and close the lid or sometimes it stops mid cycle and I have to open and close the lid to get it to finish the cycle. I’m thinking that’s probably the lid switch but maybe it’s a plug connecter or something is there a test for this or do I just replace the switch? Thank you
I have the same problem Only information I found online is information in regards to the washer. Nothing on how to gain access and troubleshoot the dryer.
Hi guys, I have the same laundry combo, and the dryer dies recently during to a power failure. I believe is the 4 wire thermostat but before I start digging into this I thought is better to check with specialists here if anybody had same issue in the past and how was it resolved. Any help is appreciated! Thanks
Hi Sir, I can't get mine to drain it just clicks when I put it on the drain cycle. Only had the machine for 6 months. My 6'oclock position says HEAVY not MEDIUM, must be a different model. My diagnostic lights wont come on when I hold down both the Start and Rinse buttons
Breaker keeps tripping at different stages after I reset and start again. Changed breaker and tighten electrical cord and leads. Worked for 5 yrs till now
Nathan , hi, great video it has gotten me around washer. I have issue here and when i put it test so it agitates it pauses and wash light just blinks...
This question is about the GE /Kenmore stacked washer and dryer combo. When in diagnostics, I position 7 the spin test the lid locks ok then it starts u spin then stops after 10 or 16 seconds. Then if I go to position 9 agitate it will agitate for a few seconds as it did in the spin test. In other words it seems like this is something on the board . What do you think?
I may need to change the water inlet connection. One of connections is ragged as someone tried to attach a hose and I guess they couldn't get it to work. Do I have to replace it, or can I clean it up/ sand it down a bit?
How do I increase the water level in my stacked Whirlpool washer dryer combo? On the large setting, the water leve is only 1/2 way full. That doesn't provide enough water for the clothes to be cleaned and rinsed properly.
@@desireealger8117 No. Still haven't. My washer only fills 1/2 way. It was created that way to "save water". Stupid. Cannot clean a full load of laundry.
Thank you so much for making this video. Do you know if the washer is supposed to make a sound like a chime when the cycle is completed? Mine only makes a sound for the end of the dryer cycle
No chime at the end of wash cycle on my GE GUD27ESSM1WW. I’m here looking for info on the fact that it just doesn’t seem to fill more then 1/2 full. Perhaps it is supposed to be a high efficiency unit. I miss my front loader. 😢
Our GE compact washer/dryer. When washing a load of clothes, our washing machine only fills up with a small amount of water, maybe 1 1/2 gallons. Then the wash cycle begins. Why does it NOT fill the wash basket (tub) all the way full, as to cover the small amount of clothes in the washer??
Thank You friend i have a GTUP270EM4WW THAT IS ELECTRIC BUT LOOKS IDENTICAL TO YOUR UNIT. mine has two capacitors for motor start, one for the washer on below washer left wall and one for the dryer motor ( dryer motor does not have a centrifugal start switch it uses a capacitor start) Ugh it is in the upper compartment but doesn.t show where, i am looking where it my be located and what i have to do to get at it, Thank You in advance
My start button on the washing machine will not turn on. It will turn on when I start the dryer. (sometimes the dryer does not power on.) as long as the dry air is running, the washing machine will run. I have only had this for a year and barely used it. You were saying on that first setting that you never use which is the drain cycle. I am finding I have to use that quite often because at the end of the washing cycle, the clothes are soaking wet and dripping. But now I can’t even get it to get through a full watch cycle.
Hello, I would like to ask how to clean or remove the lint inside of that grill? Is there any better way aside to vacuum it out the lint? Can I remove the grill? Thanks
I have this unit and the dryer won't shut off. I was thinking maybe a bad humidistat when it's in auto mode but it won't time out either when you do a timed dry. Any ideas?
I apologize if this question was already asked but is there anyway to set a beeping sound on the timer for this machine that way ,I hear when my wash is done?
My W/D combo GE is not working, i ready replaced the basket and water pump, relay, I checked the wires under the washer ,the capacitor is ok. But still not working, can you help me, please. thanks in advance ☺.
My is similar to this model and my washer smells is there any way to clean it out other than running bleach through it, vinager and backing soda and a cleaning tab did not fix the smell!
No power to washer, dryer is fine. Just had electrical subpage installed for new cooktop and oven. All fuses not tripped. Unplugged, replaced in, no power on washer. Only 1 year old. Was never touched during kitchen renovation. Could sub panel install have caused this? Thanks for quick reply.
I have the exact stacked unit you showed (diagnostics video). My problem is a squeek squeek squeek sound during agitation cycle ONLY. Any advice would be wonderful! Thanks, PK
Hi , i have combo Maytag washer and dryer .When i press start botten the solenoid opening water in the second i take my finger away from start botten it's stop working please advise Thanks.
I have this model stackable. I am missing a lot of socks and one time before when it was serviced, we found straggler socks in the bottom of the unit. How do you open the front of the unit to get to those socks in the bottom of the inside? In this video, it starts with the panels already removed. thanks
The White Spin shifter…. You say it should slowly move down. … mine did not appear to move at all as the washer filled. Then the motor started. BUT, the white shifter still looks like it’s in the raised position. It’s definitely not making contact with the black gear looking thing below it. Is this a problem or is this how it’s supposed to run? Thank you.

@@desireealger8117 No. Still haven't. My washer only fills 1/2 way. It was created that way to "save water". Stupid. Cannot clean a full load of laundry.
I have a GE top low bottom washer. The dryer on the top seems like the drum is loose. It makes a lot of squeaking still heats up and everything.
Hi...what if the dryer works but the washer won't reset?.
Thank you so much for making this video. Do you know if the washer is supposed to make a sound like a chime when the cycle is completed? Mine only makes a sound for the end of the dryer cycle
No chime at the end of wash cycle on my GE
GUD27ESSM1WW. I’m here looking for info on the fact that it just doesn’t seem to fill more then 1/2 full. Perhaps it is supposed to be a high efficiency unit. I miss my front loader. 😢
How do diagnosis the dryer it's leaking water from each side of the upper front plate cover
Thank You friend i have a GTUP270EM4WW THAT IS ELECTRIC BUT LOOKS IDENTICAL TO YOUR UNIT. mine has two capacitors for motor start, one for the washer on below washer left wall and one for the dryer motor ( dryer motor does not have a centrifugal start switch it uses a capacitor start) Ugh it is in the upper compartment but doesn.t show where, i am looking where it my be located and what i have to do to get at it, Thank You in advance
i have double stock washer and dryer ( GE brand) still wet after spiining
Lights on wash rinse and lidlock.. what would be the problem?water stops filling.
Thanks, I cant find the GE washer dryer combo dryer video? That you made?
Hello. I’m working on a machine just like the one in the video. I need a video on replacing the mode shifter assembly. Does one exist?
My start button on the washing machine will not turn on. It will turn on when I start the dryer. (sometimes the dryer does not power on.) as long as the dry air is running, the washing machine will run. I have only had this for a year and barely used it. You were saying on that first setting that you never use which is the drain cycle. I am finding I have to use that quite often because at the end of the washing cycle, the clothes are soaking wet and dripping. But now I can’t even get it to get through a full watch cycle.
Hi did you find the solution? My washer is also not showing any lights.. dryer is working
Any ideas?
how do you fix the agitation on this unit? Mine will only go one way and will not agitate
I feel empowered by watching this.
My is similar to this model and my washer smells is there any way to clean it out other than running bleach through it, vinager and backing soda and a cleaning tab did not fix the smell!
Thank so much....I fixed my washer!
is there a stability plate that often come loose?
No power to washer, dryer is fine. Just had electrical subpage installed for new cooktop and oven. All fuses not tripped. Unplugged, replaced in, no power on washer. Only 1 year old. Was never touched during kitchen renovation.
Could sub panel install have caused this?
Thanks for quick reply.
I have the exact stacked unit you showed (diagnostics video). My problem is a squeek squeek squeek sound during agitation cycle ONLY. Any advice would be wonderful! Thanks, PK

I have this model stackable. I am missing a lot of socks and one time before when it was serviced, we found straggler socks in the bottom of the unit. How do you open the front of the unit to get to those socks in the bottom of the inside? In this video, it starts with the panels already removed. thanks

@@aatomita On bottom edge of front panel, two screws near floor - take those out, slide panel down 1/2 inch, pull forward.
At the top front edge about an inch from the side. Put a screw driver in and push. Do on both sides
Quick question, where is the washer’s filter????
Are there any fault/error codes for the dryer?
The White Spin shifter…. You say it should slowly move down. … mine did not appear to move at all as the washer filled. Then the motor started. BUT, the white shifter still looks like it’s in the raised position. It’s definitely not making contact with the black gear looking thing below it. Is this a problem or is this how it’s supposed to run? Thank you.
I have a GE washer dryer stacker and I need to change out the switch for the washer so it can drain how do I gain access to it do I remove the front panel and how do you remove the front panel
How do you take off the front cover to get to the pump. Thx Dan
