    Everyone should watch "Game Change"; the film has so many points that relate to the current presidential race. Palin was totally the precursor to Trump.
    I look forward to a 'Game Change' analysis for 2016....

      Dennis Hartnett I agree with you for the most part. Two things struck me though: 1. He wouldn't go so far as to take responsibility for the Palin selection. He hid behind being on "the team" that chose her. That may be true, but take responsibility dude. 2. Putting John Edwards in the same category as Palin in regard to competency was another cop out. She occupies that space all by herself.

Sarah Palin would have been an obscure and forgotten former Governor of one of the lest populated states but for John McCain's decision to name her as his running mate. From this, she made her name and her fortune. Yet even after Donald Trump ridiculed the valor of Sen. McCain (My heroes don't get caught), Mrs. Palin appears at a rally to endorse Trump. I applaud Schmidt for being a standup guy and taking responsibility for his mistake - and even more, going into detail about why and how the mistake was made. I that the fact that he talks about what other campaigns should learn from his mistake is good for the country. However, I take issue with one thing he said. In an attempt to make his message sound more balanced and protect it from partisan sniping, he compared John Edwards' qualifications to Sarah Palin's. But there's a difference. We wouldn't want Sarah Palin to be president because she was woefully unqualified and demonstrated that fact very publicly. We wouldn't want Edwards to be president because he was an immoral slimeball (a fact unknown to everyone at that time, in any case, unlike Palin). There's a big difference between the two.

    • @CyeOutsider

      Yes, I didn't buy the comparison he was trying to make. Its false equivalence.

    • @minnowshark
      @minnowshark 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      CyeOutsider
      I don't see that he says both of them are the same but rather the process of picking and vetting is flawed. Palin was picked to boost the fundamentals and ultra-right wing of the Republicans not that she was qualified. The film portrayal is that only after she was announced were unsavory things uncovered. Edwards, in hindsight, was a slimeball but it is not known how much vetting was done on him.

    • @jakejones9877
      @jakejones9877 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      minnowshark, Schmidt has definitely said that Palin was not qualified and that it was scary that someone like that came so close to the presidency. As for Edwards, regardless of how much vetting was done, there was no reason at the time to think that he was more unqualified to be president than many other candidates. Even now, there's no reason to think that he is 'unqualified', only that he is a man of bad character.

    • @CyeOutsider
      @CyeOutsider 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Jake Jones
      Yeah, Edwards is guilty of moral offences. Whatever weight you want to give those, I don't think it was ever the case that he was unqualified, inexperienced or not capable of carrying out the duties of POTUS.
      Palin WAS just flat out unqualified.
      She lacked even the basic knowledge of the American political system - how it works and how it is structered. She had not idea of poltiics at the national level. She had no idea what the VP actually did, or could do. She claimed to support things like the Bush Doctrine but, when pushed, had no idea what it actually was. She had never travelled outside of America. Her general knowledge was abysmal - she thought Africa was a state!
      Her handlers had to give her a crash course just to get up up to speed on how the American political system worked!
      She's a vain, thin-skinned, vindictive person who cannot let a slight go unchallenged.
      She's a political grifter.
      She would have been a nightmare as VP and its unthinkable that a person like her should ever be President.

    I appreciate the fact that Schmidt acknowledges Palin was a mistake, but he really is glossing over the fact of his role in that whole fiasco, talking as if he were a third party commenting on someone else. He was front and center in the decision to act so recklessly, and he should frankly acknowledge that. Obviously it became clear to he and Nicole Wallace both should have resigned from that campaign. Wallace even admits that she couldn't bring herself to vote for McCain, yet she stayed on a campaign that tried to convince the country to vote for him. If that isn't the height of hypocrisy, I don't know what is.

    The American people gain, because we must all recognize errors that have been made in the past so we won't repeat them. Did you watch the entire clip? At the end Schmidt explains the importance of understanding the past so we can learn from it. Admitting he was involved in a huge mistake is the act of a very honest man with more integrity than most.

    I can almost accept the Republicans saying that MSNBC is as bad as FOX News, but this is a thoughtful, balanced and even sympathetic report on the opposition. Something that could never happen on FOX News without an ulterior agenda. This piece stands proud as good reporting, not ashamed in the best of company, now say that about Fox News.

    The root of the Palin problem is this: if you don't have a basic understanding of something, how can you form an intelligent opinion or make a decision on it? It would be interesting to know just how her brain conceptualizes certain things. This is actually a worldwide problem we are dealing with.

    I think it's very brave and honest for Schmidt to come out and come clean on this issue. He seems like he has thought this out and done genuine soul-searching on this thing, and major kudos to him I say. The sickening thing is that Palin has denied virtually all of this information that came forth from multiple sources, which would logically indicate a massive conspiracy against her. Sad, really sad. I'm thankful she never got a shot at being president. Maybe there is a god.

    AT 5:35 he earned my respect. Honestly stated. "There are worst things than loosing".........."When a resullt happens that puts someone who is not prepared to be President on the ticket, that's a bad result. The notion of S.P being President of the United States frightens me..and I played a part in that." Now some may say that about our President now, but as a Republican....a real one, not this new breed of Kamakazie Republicans, can you honestly say that you wouldn't be shitting bricks if John McCain got sick while President.

      Wow. Probably one of the most intelligent things I've read on TH-cam. The Kamakazie's aka "Tea Party" are the ones destroying the credibility of Republicans. Christine O Donnell, Bachmann, Bush, and Palin. One babbling idiot after another. I'm a Moderate Rep. and I can say without a doubt, that It's our own fault we lost 2 elections. With candidates like Perry, and Santorum, we never had a chance to begin with. It's time to move forward people! Those who don't, get left behind.

    Sarah Palin wasn't prepared for the job
    but
    she became bigger than McCain and the fact that she has a strong will power what American ppl can relate is what made her popular.
    But on the other hand... she is a true American citizen. If you want to know what is an average american person... the only thing you need to do is to watch her.

    it shows a lot of character for someone like Steve Schmidt to admit his big mistake like this in front of national TV. I agree with his comment that people (such as McCain) do genuinely want to win badly to be able to do things for their country, and their motives can drive their decisions into insanity. I do not agree with several issues in the Republic platform but there are still people in the party who have integrity.
