Nice Video! I have an 80 cb650 (not the custom, just the reg. model) and love it. I rebuilt the engine and these darn things are pretty zippy. Not top end speed but off the line and up to 60/70 mph. Kinda impressive for an old honda designed motor from 1972. (cb500f - cb550f- and lastly the cb650). You mentioned to get a torque wrench, get one that you can read correctly. I used a H.F. one and the lines didn't really match up to the handle and ended up torqueing 10lbs over and cracked the rocker cover. Wish I would have spent the money for a digital one. Live and learn.
I play around with old Honda’s and getting everything to seal can be a pain, fixing the stripped threads hopefully will sort, all these bikes are getting old now.
Man your bike looks cool, I just picked up a 81 cb650c with a leak. Going to try fixing it and hoping its just a gasket. Have no clue how you did the rethreding and hoping my dont need that
I bought the Athena kit too and the sealing disks didn’t feel like they where a tight fit. Did you use anything to adhere the disks in place? I’m still having a leak, and I’m thinking it might be from the loose fit. Also, it looked like you were able to reassemble everything without loosening and readjusting the valves. That would make it a lot easier to get back into the sealing disks.
That was a great fix job you did and helped me out with my cb650 engine rebuild!!! And by the way what carbs are those that you are running 🤔 I really would like to know 😊
@@eastcoastish what do you think are the highest performing carbs for the Honda Cb650? Is it the Keihins that you have? I just picked up a 1980 CB650 the other day and it's all pretty new to me. I can find almost nothing in the way of performance parts, so I'd appreciate any insight you may have. Thanks in advance!
I just bought an 83 cb650 and it leaks oil out of the top by the plugs and it even drips oil somewhere on the lower left side. My buddy said it was a rotting o ring or something but I haven’t looked yet. Any thoughts?
It's probably a few different seals that failing, the oil near the plugs is probably the same problem i'm having, you can see them at 2:29 in this video. This is the kit that I bought that got all my leaks fixed: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000K7JDKG
Just got a 74 cb750 having this same issue. Gonna have to fix the threads also. This is all new to me but these videos sure help! Thanks man! 🙏

awesome! glad its fixed...are you going to do anything as far as graphics with the tank? Its good without, just curious.
Yeh thinking about it. I've got a vinyl printer so I can play around with different options and pull them off easily
Awesome job now can you own an 83 GS750T so i can figure out my oil leak haha i cant find any videos on my bike lol
Thank you for this awesome video. I’m having the same issue with leaking in this general area. Do you have a link for the Athena gaskets? 🤘🏼
This is the one I used: www.amazon.com/Athena-P400210600600-Top-End-Gasket/dp/B000K7JDKG

The discs aren’t tight but I assume the compress and seal once tightened down. Did you completely clean the area before putting them in?

Awesome! The carbs are the Keihin CR29 Special; pricey, but a really nice carb

@@danraymond1253 Yeh, the Keihin CR29 are probably the best you can get for it. They're pricey though, I think my setup was about $1k.
@@eastcoastish wow. Thanks for the info!
Hey I have the same issue did this also cause you to burn oil? Just trying to figure out if I have a other issue also
Did you need to adjust the valves afterward? thanks
and also, do I need to drain the oil when im doing the gasket change?
