He really needs to release an acoustic solo album. Just him and a guitar. Or like a Bootlegs album of all these demos and unreleased songs, but at studio quality
Wonderful song. Always love the solos. John Mayer never cease to amaze me, What an excellent singer/writer and a very versatile guitarist both electric and acoustic. Thanks ybiawl83 for uploading this.
This song reminds me of my grandma who passed away in 1998...her name was Lydia. It also reminds me of a verse in the Bible Matthew 5:14-15 because of the word city & the fact I hid I was a John Mayer fan for years...music greed. I have since repented. I ♥ this song... good music should be shared... and bought legally.
One morning after having a crazy night drinking at a club the previous night, I sat down and learnt this entire song by ear for 7 hours straight haha. You can totally learn it too man!
@BlaKSoKsNPinKStripeS It's what we call "scratch tracks" it's just an acoustic version of the song that was probably used so John Alagia (producer of RFS) could get a feel for the song and prepare to record it. It's not an album.
Looped, demo, live, taped...who cares??? Doesn't matter because it sounds excellent! Always wondered if an unplugged version of this existed, and now I know. Thanks a lot for posting this!
@diegofernandin Right, he has an OMJM signature which is the best semi for plucking and doing whatever JM does with his guitar. Mraz uses a Taylor612ce. But he uses classicals more. :)
"And I knew I was through. When I said 'I love you'". Did he say those words, like the 2 guys in Extremee's song, "More than Words"? Or did he say it like, “Love is kind... It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking...it keeps no record of wrongs"?
You would be right if this wasnt live. What i meant was live looping. The musician would record a certain chord movements (usually with an effect box that comes with this feature) and play it back when he needs that chord progression to add another layer of melody or whatever he/she wants to layer it with Usually used for bands that lacks another rhythm player. Either way, iam not saying u are wrong. =)
he plays the OMJM. its about $3300 new at guitar center. if youre new to playing you should be looking for a cheap guitar unless you have that type of money to blow.
@ybiawl83 Haha, thanks man. That helps, sometimes my brain just gets too tired... He's really inspiring, thanks for all of JM stuff you've put up here. Eating it all up. *nom nom nom* lol.
@diegofernandin He plays Martins but theres a ton of great acoustics out there. Personally, I'm a fan of Gibsons, and taylors are also awesome (jason mraz plays a taylor)
John Mayer does not use loops this is a demo, not live, so it has to be a muti track recording, but that doesn't mean that you have to call people fucktards haha...
2021... still great
2019? hellz yeah
He really needs to release an acoustic solo album. Just him and a guitar. Or like a Bootlegs album of all these demos and unreleased songs, but at studio quality
Wow he sounds amazing. Always does on these acoustic versions.
Wonderful song. Always love the solos.

Don’t understand how he solos like this on acoustic
Having a Martin guitar helps. Still, he's a God
One morning after having a crazy night drinking at a club the previous night, I sat down and learnt this entire song by ear for 7 hours straight haha. You can totally learn it too man!
He uses his fingers.
@@thehauntedstream7206 did you just learn the chords or their exact voicings?
@@svensvensson6705 voicings solo and everything haha just gotta go like 5-10 seconds at a time

I came here thinking "this isn't really an acoustic song.."
As usual, John proved me wrong.

Looped, demo, live, taped...who cares??? Doesn't matter because it sounds excellent! Always wondered if an unplugged version of this existed, and now I know. Thanks a lot for posting this!
1:34 to 2:00 the way he sings is my favorite part. he is our era of a great song writer and guitarist I say not to bad to that.
2021 baby

simply awesome...where do u get something like this?
@diegofernandin Jason Mraz usually plays taylors with nylon strings
he looped it, i saw him looped in a video before.matt bellamy from muse looped live too. so its not impossible...i love this song none the less..
He uses the OM28-JM, not the OMJM, which is the budget version of the OM28-JM. He rarely uses the OMJM, but almost always uses the OM28-JM.
did ever get one? if you're still wanting.. i tell everyone to get a seagull.. phenomenal guitars and not as expensive.

My favorite part is 1:37 to 1:54

This is where the elusive Covered in Rain song originated

Mraz plays Taylor guitars. He has 914ce, 314ce, and a bunch more...
he plays the OMJM. its about $3300 new at guitar center. if youre new to playing you should be looking for a cheap guitar unless you have that type of money to blow.
has to be two guitars during that solo. or he looped it. if he just did what I think he did this man is a God.
It gives me great comfort knowing someone feels the way I'm feeling right now, 13 years ago.
@silvertoneDUDE I thought he was playing with an another guitarist.
You sure this isn't Village Sessions?
Yeeeeeee

@diegofernandin He plays Martins but theres a ton of great acoustics out there. Personally, I'm a fan of Gibsons, and taylors are also awesome (jason mraz plays a taylor)
Good point... but it still doesn't sound live.
