i saw this video in the summer of 2018 and the intensity and passion that is radiating off of these two humans as they make their music inspired me, a 43 year old stay at home mom who had never once attempted to play any type of musical instrument in my life, to try to learn to play guitar. it’s been five years and i still suck but it’s fun as heck and doing it has added greatly to my enjoyment of life on multiple levels. i am forever grateful to the white stripes for spurring me on this awesome new adventure - one i had always assumed was beyond my reach.
Jack did a lot of impromptu stuff and Meg was brilliant at reading him. People say Meg was a terrible drummer but it was her simplicity that Jack wanted. That was the point of the way she played drums. And in my opinion she did it in a very sexy way. They are both very special to me. I miss the Stripes. Come get some Catspit!~
CatspitProductions You got it, absolutely. I'm surprised that so many people don't get that. It's entirely created by Jack, designed that way. And isn't it awesome to get this much from just two musicians? The definition of "greater than the sum of the two parts".
I agree. As I understand Meg came on and played the drums somewhere Jack was playing and he was struck by her child like drumming. I think she just started to play drums at that time. But yeah the Stripes is all Jack really. Not to take anything away from Meg ;) And the two together are very cool. But Jack knew exactly what he was doing. I don't see them so much as an alternative or garage band either. They feel more retro to me.
That's cool. I didn't know he started out drumming. His guitar style reminds me of Jimmy Page. Among some others of course but it feels very Page to me. I think Little Cream Soda is my favorite song of theirs. So simple yet so powerful. Love the lyrics.

+Rob Fraser there's been a few media accounts of Jack being a bit of a dick but such is being as popular as he is. however, compared to others, you can tell from his interviews and whatnot he really seems like a truly down-to-earth guy that does it for the music, albeit quite eccentric, and undoubtedly incredibly talented. Anyway he's certainly my favorite musician and my greatest inspiration on the music front. I mean literally every single piece of music he has been involved in I absolutely adore.
Fine musicianship. A bizarre combination of Son House songs. The narrator (in the original) is close to suicidal by the end of the song. I've sung "Death Letter Blues." It only works with the traditional North Mississippi pulse. I wear sunglasses when I sing it because I don't want the audience to see that I'm crying (literally). I want the audience to remain quiet, I want them to cry. I want them to experience pain and agony, if only second hand. The narrator of the song screwed up his relationship with his woman, and now she's dead. He assumed that they would get back together. Eventually. He took their relationship for granted. He wasn't there for her when she needed him the most. That's the blues.
Jack probably related to this song because even though him and Meg were already divorced at that point. I believe he still loves her and they probably got divorced because he took her for granite. I mean thats just what my gut tells me.

Watching this on Meg's birthday. Definitely prefer the live version to the album version for this one. Miss this band everyday, but so glad for all the music they gave us.
Meg follows him to perfection. Hard gig following the one and only guitar around. She has swing and rhythm in spades. And of of course Jack White, such a talent.
The Palumpa It was a distraction. They wanted the attention to be about their music not their relationship. It also went well with the 'childish' aesthetic of the band; brother and sister, red, white and black, peppermint candy. If you watch the earlier performances, Meg often looks like a sulky younger sister. I think they would try to imply Jack was the older "meaner" brother making his sister play with him; especially how Meg would wear side pony tails like a school girl. Not sure if this was intentional - but I remember from an interview Jack said Meg never wanted to play, and he forced her to play a gig and she was fighting him the whole way through - sulking and miserable. At that point the band became about Meg. Feel free to correct me if some of these are slightly off, I'm just remembering stuff off the top of my head.
mattie009 I wasn't trying to insinuate anything other than the two songs sound similar :) Not exactly a new subject for Led Zeppelin haha a few of there song were total rip offs; especially stairway to heaven!

Dan Wacker No I was not actually! I don’t know the specifics of this songs origin, I just meant that I know it’s a well known fact that a lot of Led Zeppelin songs “borrowed” lyrics/melodies from other songs. I love what they did with it though!

yeah it was 2004
Even more now!
This performances is nasty af, and I mean that in the best way possible
if this video ever gets taken down i honestly dont know what i will do with myself.
The best live guitar performance of all time?
Watching this on Meg's birthday. Definitely prefer the live version to the album version for this one. Miss this band everyday, but so glad for all the music they gave us.
One of the best live performances of all time.
There’s nothing cooler than this. Look no further.
Jack White was possessed by the gods of rock in this concert
Love Meg, Jack is a unique item, no one in the world or universe like him and wont never be. EVER!
Meg follows him to perfection. Hard gig following the one and only guitar around. She has swing and rhythm in spades. And of of course Jack White, such a talent.
I literally cannot play this song loud enough.....best guitar performance that has happened within my lifetime.
I believe, this is what special people mean when they refer to someone else as, "a conduit for something we don't really understand."
They literally ooze sex appeal in this greatest live song performance
I hope Meg White is having a good day
I never get tired of watching this. Just amazing talent.
That hollowbody guitar musta been living a gentle and happy life with jazz guitarists until picked up by Jack then all hell broke loose...
That is a tight drum groove.
yeah, tits are awesome.
@@vilemmarakii9809 What tits?
Such a rockstar, love how you can see him feeling the music
This is the best cover by far. Props to Son House for writing it.
meg and jack were never siblings, they were married then got divorced before their band got big, jack changed his surname to white
I'm still wondering why he always claims that they are brother and sister
Feel free to correct me if some of these are slightly off, I'm just remembering stuff off the top of my head.
o2xygen02 ah.. that's cool, thanks!
yup
For purely a performance perspective, this particularly act is purely brilliant.
And that's just the icing on the cake.
the end isn't from death letter blues , it is grinnin in your face by son house which is jack white's favourite song ever. Look him up
Mckinley Chadwick No, it's a combo of both
Death Letter is Son House as well
I like how you know everything about Jackie
and the beginning part is Ry Cooder.....
IN MY TTIIIMMMEE OF DY... oops wrong song :L
mattie009 I wasn't trying to insinuate anything other than the two songs sound similar :) Not exactly a new subject for Led Zeppelin haha a few of there song were total rip offs; especially stairway to heaven!
i love both songs
First thing I thought when I heard this, clearly almost the exact same riff as Zeppelin’s “In My Time of Dying”
And yes I’m aware that Led Zeppelin “borrowed” it first
Then you're also aware that this is a Son House cover right?
Dan Wacker
No I was not actually!
I don’t know the specifics of this songs origin, I just meant that I know it’s a well known fact that a lot of Led Zeppelin songs “borrowed” lyrics/melodies from other songs.
I love what they did with it though!
This video on yt must be preserved
I showed my dad this. I catch him watching it all the time!
Love how the little kid in her just comes out when she plays drums lol . She looks so carefree and in her zone
This song /performance will go down as one of the truly great masterpieces of rock .... No doubt
